You think it's going all right
You think it's going fine, girl
You think there's nothing in it for you
    I hope you don't
    I hope you don't mind
Gonna get you come around baby
    Wanna see you through it
    Not makin' any promises maybe
That's only in the movies, movies
    Things justa
    Don't seema
    To be going right
    Prospect of reconciliation
    Memories of some funny conversation
    Feel like taking a vacation
    Like going to the moon
    I can't afford it
Your mother with a bird's nest hairdo
Your brother with plenty of action
Your father always thinking me a weirdo
    I can't get no satisfaction
You think it's going all right
You think it's going fine, girl
You think there's nothing in it for you
    I hope you don't mind
Your mother with a bird's nest hairdo

You've gotta love James Reyne; he's as difficult to understand as Robert Plant and Kurt Cobain sometimes! We didn't have the Internet back when this song was released, so you just had to figure out the lyrics by yourself somehow, and I'd often end up being completely wrong. Like that guy who thought Hendrix was singing "Excuse me while I kiss this guy"! I've loved this song for decades but have only just found out the lyrics thanks to you...

Considering they had to cancel a US tour because Guy Mcdonough sadly passed away on the eve of it, it really makes you wonder just how big aussie crawl could have gotten. Although it does seem very specific aussie rock, the US is a fickle market, and anything could have happened. Truly one of the greatest aussie rock bands of all time.👍

The Semantics Album was recorded for America, they had just scored a great deal with Geffen Records and I can't recall his name but Hall and Oates manager was about to take over their American Managment and he was a major player !!!!! But tragity struck and that was that........

I Nursed Guy McDonough during the days and weeks leading up to his death. Looked after him the night he died.

+Rob Westwater He wrote some iconic songs but he was no "legend" beyond his capacity to take (illegal) drugs. Without going into the details, it was the (way he took) [illegal] drugs that killed him. It was a long painful and lonely death, everyone of the band members and family abandoned him. His last few weeks were spent in an isolation room where everyone who came onto contact with him wore full isolation gear - gown, gloves, masks, hairnets...... Prince Henry's Hospital, Ward 5 West/ICU, bed 8

      @billrichards1965 9 лет назад +3

+Rob Westwater I'm a retired ICU Nurse so being with Guy on that night was pure chance. Also, he wasn't the first or last of deaths that I have witnessed.
Sorry to hear about your parents, I still have both of them, in their eighties, though my dad is currently in hospital with rather nasty kidney stones. He's a Korean War vet and if they couldn't get him........ already has his next cruise planned 🚢🚢🚢

    • @billrichards1965
      @billrichards1965 8 лет назад +5

It is obviously not the full story about Guy and if you read my comments a bit more carefully you'll notice that I didn't "judge" him rather than the way he took the drugs he did!
He was not 'thrust into the spotlight', like most all bands they had spent years working their.way up the charts and had had numerous hits.
He had a great many opportunities and support available should he have chosen to get clean. Unfortunately he made his own decisions and paid the price.

It's so sad when I think about this. Aussie Crawl were everything that Australia is. I can't think about Australia without putting on some Aussie Crawl and feeling so nostalgic. Just wanted them to go on forever and it chokes me up. Long live the music.

Just Googled it and apparently these are the lyrics:
    You think it's going alright
You think it's going fine girl
You think there's nothing in it for you
    I hope you don't
    I hope you don't mind
Gonna get you come around baby
    Wanna see you through it
    Not makin'any promisses maybe
That's only in the movies, movies
    Things justa
    Don't seema
    To be going right
    Prospect of reconciliation
    Memories of some funny conversation
    Feel like taking a vacation
    Like going to the moon
    I can't afford it
Your mother with a bird's nest hairdo
Your brother with plenty of action
Your fathe'r always thinking me a weirdo
    I can't get no satisfaction
    You think…

When I was a kid, mum had a copy of James Reyne's 'Live in Rio' which had the lyrics in the sleeve so I could decipher it from a young age. But when I was a real young boy hearing this on the radio I remember thinking 'WTF is he even saying?'. Bangs to the, Dongs to the, ahhh breaking on ice.

"Things still going, very alright," many decades later for James ... Well deserved .. Just heard him on ABC radio ... Going to Nashville to co-write some songs .. Maybe a James Reyne/Keith Urban song ... Dream it. Believe it. Achieve it ... I think that might be a Nutri Grain ad (-:

I don't think I ever understood a single word of whatever he was singing in this song. Strangely, it's never stopped me singing along. I wasn't sure if I wanted to find out the lyrics, but it seems Google can't even translate even an approximation of the words. Great song though :)
