You've gotta love James Reyne; he's as difficult to understand as Robert Plant and Kurt Cobain sometimes! We didn't have the Internet back when this song was released, so you just had to figure out the lyrics by yourself somehow, and I'd often end up being completely wrong. Like that guy who thought Hendrix was singing "Excuse me while I kiss this guy"! I've loved this song for decades but have only just found out the lyrics thanks to you... ;-)
Considering they had to cancel a US tour because Guy Mcdonough sadly passed away on the eve of it, it really makes you wonder just how big aussie crawl could have gotten. Although it does seem very specific aussie rock, the US is a fickle market, and anything could have happened. Truly one of the greatest aussie rock bands of all time.👍

15 years old when 1st heard this on countdown and thought these guys were cool as, top music here in Australia, top bands in all pubs , festival hall, the esplanade hotel just to name a few. Love most music genre if its got rythem, sound and soul, it rocks. Music in my youth great memories

It is obviously not the full story about Guy and if you read my comments a bit more carefully you'll notice that I didn't "judge" him rather than the way he took the drugs he did! He was not 'thrust into the spotlight', like most all bands they had spent years working their.way up the charts and had had numerous hits. He had a great many opportunities and support available should he have chosen to get clean. Unfortunately he made his own decisions and paid the price.
It's so sad when I think about this. Aussie Crawl were everything that Australia is. I can't think about Australia without putting on some Aussie Crawl and feeling so nostalgic. Just wanted them to go on forever and it chokes me up. Long live the music.

When I was a kid, mum had a copy of James Reyne's 'Live in Rio' which had the lyrics in the sleeve so I could decipher it from a young age. But when I was a real young boy hearing this on the radio I remember thinking 'WTF is he even saying?'. Bangs to the, Dongs to the, ahhh breaking on ice.

It's so sad when I think about this. Aussie Crawl were everything that Australia is. I can't think about Australia without putting on some Aussie Crawl and feeling so nostalgic. Just wanted them to go on forever and it chokes me up. Long live the music.

When I was a kid, mum had a copy of James Reyne's 'Live in Rio' which had the lyrics in the sleeve so I could decipher it from a young age. But when I was a real young boy hearing this on the radio I remember thinking 'WTF is he even saying?'. Bangs to the, Dongs to the, ahhh breaking on ice.

I don't think I ever understood a single word of whatever he was singing in this song. Strangely, it's never stopped me singing along. I wasn't sure if I wanted to find out the lyrics, but it seems Google can't even translate even an approximation of the words. Great song though :)
