  • Mid-summer in Arkansas is expected to be lush, green and HOT! June 3 2023 was no exception. We got away to search for some waterfalls near the Buffalo National River area but just as we were warned in advance by a local hiker we reached out to, the flow was bad and levels were low. With that in mind we found the Centerpoint to Goat Trail which meanders through the Ponca Wilderness to the Buffalo River and it's limestone walls including Big Bluff. At 550 ft., it is the tallest sheer bluff between the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachians. It is a popular trail and parking is limited. We were lucky to get there early but our campground neighbors had to pay to park across the road.
With two new cameras to lug around, (Sony a7III and Minolta X-7A 35mm) John took over the GoPro adding another level of perspective, and a learning curve for both of us. Oh and don't forget the extra pack weight that comes along with the upgrades of course...
    The Hike:
