Hello everyone! In preparation of this run, I conducted extensive experiments into how stock KSP handles terrain colliders at high velocity. Using this knowledge, I was able to fine tune the Polar Lighting to best take advantage of the stock system. You can read my results here: forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/160697-the-speed-of-ground-a-study-into-how-ksp-terrain-colliders-handle-land-vehicles-with-high-magnitudes-of-velocity/ Thanks -Stratzenblitz
Polar lightning. Otherwise known as a weapon of mass destruction... Just imagine this thing passing by you at 2.5 km per second! Poor Jeb being strapped to the front of the thing.
I'm speechless... after watching this, I'm overcome with emotion... the music ties in perfectly with the essence of the experiment. I teared up at about 3:57 when the vehicle was rocketing forward with the sun coming up. It felt like someone was saying, "Push towards the dawn my son, and know your destiny awaits." It's really powerful... I hope this didn't sound weird but your video really struck a cord in my heart bud... Awesome job!
what a legend, saves the kerbal as well! The current battle for the land speed record is currently between Bradley whistance and you, and so far you are winning. Very impressive. Edit: I hadn't even seen the end of the video, even more impressive!
yep, i've been following Stratenblitz for quite a while now (from like 200subs!), and i deffinately agree, though i think that there are more than 1 kerbal gods
Had to double check that notification to make sure it was real. I'm glad that I did. The final run where I thought it would slow down and hit the mountains had me laughing when I realized your 'landspeeder' went tangent to the curve... awesome speed record(s)!
Hey ! Here is another challenge : Fastest atmospheric flight using a plane. here are the rules : -you must be flying horizontally when you reach max speed -you can use both jet an rocket engines -leaving the atmosphere at any moment of the flight is forbidden -as you will probably exceed orbital speed, as soon as you reach your max speed you must cut off the engines and bring the plane from a sub orbital trajectory, back into a ground intersecting trajectory using ONLY ITS LIFT and bring it back to a low altitude without using your engines. (otherwise you could just reach max speed above 60km and burn retrograde afterwards) FYI : I managed to reach ~2800m/s using rapiers without clipping engines and without planning my flight properly so you will probably beat this easily. Bonus rules for bigger balls : -no engine clipping -no vector engines -single stage plane great video Btw and good luck !
Manoloutti I've accidentally done something similar. The trick is to have multiple stacks of whiplash engines with a crap ton of those super sonic inline intakes (idk the name right now, but it is not curved at all, nor does it have anything sticking out). Go to about midway through the stratosphere and max out the throttle. If you have enough engines, you could have large wings to get to altitude and then use small ones once you're high enough to be ultra efficient. I did this with a replica of the U-2 and I got to about 1300 m/s steady. I went so fast I actually had to pitch down below the horizon to keep me going too high for flame out
King Unicorn the trick is to use a reasonable amount of rapiers instead switch to closed cycle right before engines flame out (just above 20km) and maintain a TWR>1.5 for long enough to reach speeds exceeding Mach 9. It usually happens about 28km where it is still possible to aerobrake under orbital speed and come back. but who knows... he might probably find another way to get even faster
yeah tht's the point ! that's what makes it kinda hard because you could just come up with a huge rocket with wings and reach extreme speeds before leaving the atmosphere.
And I was proud of my Land Speed craft. 1640m/s with heat disabled comes no where near this. Im going to have to try harder now. Top marks! Was an excellent video. You have quickly become my favorite KSP youtuber.
Dover only laythe and eve can work then and obviously you can’t reach orbital velocity from them on the surface, eve is just hard to ascend in general and laythe has too much water and is too far away
BTW, completely aside from the awesome videos, I'd like to thank you for introducing me to the Tasty Network (via _Downtown Maglev, which was so cool I looked it up). You have fine taste in music!
Thanks! If you like the music that I use, please consider supporting the artists/labels! These guys are awesome for making amazing music AND providing it with permissive licensing! I honestly wouldn't know what I'd do without them.
Makes me think about Stormtroopers in Starkiller Base, talking about the new T-17 landspeeders... Erm.... ^^' And is there an absolute speed record? Like in space, outside of any atmosphere? X) Next step, land speed record with only SRBs/separatrons/decouplers (I'm getting mad, help plz)
at the top of the screen at the full stock run, it reads *Jebediah Kerman reaching g limit* 2 seconds later *Jebediah unconscious* you mean smeared against his seat at over 100 gs.....
Don't be ridiculous. There's only one flavor of part clipping in the stock game, Mild™. If you want other flavors, such as extreme™, heavy™ or NaN™ you'll have to download the DLC.

What the f-. A land speeder that can escape kerbin's sphere of influence. That has to be a first. Very good job! :D
Polar lightning. Otherwise known as a weapon of mass destruction... Just imagine this thing passing by you at 2.5 km per second! Poor Jeb being strapped to the front of the thing.
That is an amazing result list, I thoroughly enjoyed reading that being a physics nerd! Really informative, just like the video. Thumbs up!
Amazing research and great video! Maybe I'll sometime try to build a similar craft.
I wonder if Brad Whistance will make a response video to this, before long you two will reach escape velocity from Kerbol.
"The perfect racing car crosses the finish line first and subsequently falls into its component parts." - Ferdinand Porsche
I must go. My people need me.
*flies off on an ablative unicycle at orbital speed*
Lol I died!
So did Jeb, tbh!
Interesting to see how little it slows down due to air resistance at the end. A combination of MV squared and a high mass to cross section I suppose.
Cody'sLab yea and didn’t expect to see you here Cody
Yee, and tricks with moving parts into orientations that make the game give them less drag.
No, a combination of the shitty aerodynamics engine in ksp and lack of FAR
aakksshhaayy yeah inline mounting
how did you get here
Lemme get this straight:
You took a land speed record
INTO SPACE.
I'd say more: He drove his car so fast, that he left planet's sphere of influence
Ben Steinhart He drove faster than gravity...
yeah, but the ending wasn't stock, the beginning was
Edit: it says at 3:53 that he used mods
CodeWarrior Better time warp was probably to keep his vehicle from glitching into the ground.
The vessel itself was 100% stock. He just used BetterTimeWarp to prevent it from glitching into the ground. :)
It's a bird!
It's a plane!
It's a unicycle!
It's a trap
its a firework
@@billkerman7733 watch to the end

Jorge i think we found our next kerbal god. Dont you say?
yep, i've been following Stratenblitz for quite a while now (from like 200subs!), and i deffinately agree, though i think that there are more than 1 kerbal gods
Diamond Hawk74 Maybe for pushing the game to its limits, but in terms of actually playing it, there's no beating Scott Manley.
meanwhile inside the ship: *"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"*

Gotta go fast!
Also, running through the 90s would have been a much better song
Thanks!
Agreed. Unfortunately, I don't want to invoke RUclips's copyright gods :(
That's true, Also, what did the secret messages in the previous videos mean?

Manoloutti He'll probably struggle not launching himself from the kerbin system.

holy shit you set the bar high for land speed records
And I was proud of my Land Speed craft. 1640m/s with heat disabled comes no where near this. Im going to have to try harder now. Top marks! Was an excellent video. You have quickly become my favorite KSP youtuber.
That ending brought tears in my eyes. It's cinematic, well-edited and music, as usual, fits perfectly. Thank you for making that jump.
Your videos are always a pleasure to watch, keep up the awesome work, you're the best :)
Next task: Duna mission there and back using only this "launch" mechanism at both ends. (Eve for extra points) :)
Exuta I would love to see this happen.
Such a waste of fuel
Andrés Arias looks like you haven’t seen how I play this game
Amazing! One I saw the last craft's solar orbit I immediately thought there might be an Eve intercept/landing as well.
Dude DROVE off the planet!
That is insane!!!
Great job, been following you for a few months and your work has always been amazing!
pretty standard day. Just moving so fast that you leave kerbins sphere of influence.
Newton and his "Around Earth Shooting Cannon" would be so proud of you. :D
This + Monorail video = New favorite KSP youtuber
and now this for real solar system^^
Really awesome job and thanks, for the info on how the game works.
This is really valuable
Holy crap! This is awesome!
Incredible job, Stratzen!
Man that speed is above orbital speeds! Crazy and awesome as always man
Insane missions with kickass music...
Subscribed.
Love the way the little boosters explode in the end ;) Amazing video!
This is one of my favourite videos of all time.
A fantastic and underrated channel!
Challenge: fly to and return from any other body in the Kerbol system, but all the burns must be on the surface of either Kerbin or that chosen body
Then how are you supposed to decelerate on a planet's surface at several kilometers per second
+Alex Siemers
Parachutes.
Dover only laythe and eve can work then and obviously you can’t reach orbital velocity from them on the surface, eve is just hard to ascend in general and laythe has too much water and is too far away
Sanic ain't got nuthin' on the Polar Lightning!
"but we can go faster..." *Video Buffers*
>when your car reaches escape velocity and you float away from the surface of your planet
My reaction through the video.
Nice!Then the second part
Oh sh*t! Kudos to you!
That space engine transition
You're getting real close to 10k subs, stratz...
*in thrust we trust*
It's so beautiful. :3
Now THAT'S what I call a SSTO!
Does anyone else love the different icons he gives to his missions?
IS OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
0:45. The Fastest Unicycle!
Nice Cinco-Fone easter egg there buddy
NASA: "Space may be close in distance, but it's not somewhere you can just go in a car"
Stratzenblitz: "Hold my fairings"
Holy Crap... you just went so fast that the curvature of kerbin itself disn't matter.... wow.
this video is legendary.
1:19 what a remarkable fireworks show!
(edit) 2:42 it gets better
WHAT
I'm not even one minute into the video and this is too damn impressive... gg
EDIT: Somehow even those expectations got surpassed

I think that footage of stars going past at high speeds was from space engine. Right ?
Good eye! Indeed it is.
0:45 Oh god... Just in one wheel!
escape velocity on the ground!
that´s why the vector is the best engine in the game
Imagine hitting a bump with the last one. There is just no coming back from that.
Makes me think about Stormtroopers in Starkiller Base, talking about the new T-17 landspeeders... Erm.... ^^'
And is there an absolute speed record? Like in space, outside of any atmosphere? X)

I drove my car into space :)
Amazing ingenuity!
You had to do it didn't you you amazing KSP wizard
at the top of the screen at the full stock run, it reads *Jebediah Kerman reaching g limit* 2 seconds later *Jebediah unconscious* you mean smeared against his seat at over 100 gs.....
Dang dude! Epic.
I wonder how it would run under RSS.
me: can barely get to duna, much less back
stratzenblitz: haha escape velocity in a car go BRR
This guy's Craft's: * goes so fast that can get airborne to space.*
Air friction: *Im A JoKe To YoU!?*
Nah, The game was obviously written by a highschool physics teacher so are resistance doesn't exist.
vaht ze fok?!
This is brilliant!
Amazing video as always Stratz! Although, Cinco-Phone? Seriously?
1:28
Another happy landing!
(Surprised to see that nobody commented that... A surprise to be sure, but a _not_ welcome one)
man, every time i see this i want to push like. but i already did :P
woah! thats the fastest rocket car than a super pump car
1:16 Quite the fireworks show.
Hot dang, stratzenblitz75 -- You're approaching 10,000 subs worryingly quickly! What are you going to do?
what is the image at 3:23?
reaching escape velocity on land...
"mild part clipping"
I wonder how heavy part-clipping looks like...
Don't be ridiculous. There's only one flavor of part clipping in the stock game, Mild™. If you want other flavors, such as extreme™, heavy™ or NaN™ you'll have to download the DLC.
Can I get the season pass?
Right after 3:23 there is a flash, and some sorta code on it! Something like this appears in all his videos, what's it about?
In the intro, looks like he couldn’t rent out the NASA super computer for the day.
amazing work
(meanwhile i'm still trying to build an SSTO with enough fuel)
"Mild" part clipping
3:23 image means-Cinco-Pone
very cool flag! do you study design or something similar?
Holy Moly that is epic
Rollin' around at 7 times the speed of sound
oh wait make that 11 times the speed of sound
For part three, I'd try to get on a solar escape trajectory while still on the ground.
so the last one is technically the most badass ssto
if i ever get so old and infirm i no longer want to live, i wish to strap myself to a rocket unicycle and blast off into space.
How did the landing gear not buckle from stress? On my saves they seem to buckle under a few tonnes...
*not sponsored by Gatorade Arctic Blitz
next step: lightspeed
Great Scott, Marty, but you'll need a bit more than 1,21 gigawatts for this!
Once again there is a strange frame: a blue and black background with red symbols forming a 2. There is also a code: ZG8ZKwaC1jY ( at 3:23)
What does that easter egg at 3:22 mean ?
It's basically a very low altitude rocket that just happens to be touching the ground with a wheel.
Whaat is the backround song called
3 words:
TEACH ME SENSEI!!!
GOOD FLIPPIN JOB
Hmm, I wonder if we could do an eve fly-by with land-based accleration.
Ah yes, THE ULTIMATE YEET
Glorious!!
what does ZG8ZKwaC1jy mean at 3:23
Why there is subliminal picture at 3:23 ?! kraken is here ?!?! illuminati confirmed
Prepare to rescue the Kerbal that went from ground to Eve, like holy shit!
3:23
what is that?
