2024 BYD Dolphin Review: Today's CHEAPEST EV (blew me away...)

- I had really low expectations of the BYD Dolphin...
The reality is the new MG4 is almost as cheap but comes with a rear-wheel drive platform and is one of the best cars I've driven this year. So imagine my surprise when I got into the front-wheel drive BYD Dolphin, and it provided one of the nicest rides dollar-for-dollar I've ever felt. Of course, it does a lot more than that, with a crazy-looking interior, phenomenal technology, and a surprisingly dynamic drive (though the Linglong tyres ruin that somewhat...). Still, in today's review, I'm going to tell you why Australia's cheapest electric car is a REALLY good buy!

I felt that.
The video describes the Dolphin very well. I have owned a Dolphin (150 kW, 60 kWh) for 4 months and after 10,000 km I have to say that it is a very good vehicle. The Linglong tires are also surprisingly good. It has a few small flaws, but at this price I can accept that.
I have the ling longs changed and really improves the grip and 0-60 times.

@@theMarhaenist they were dreadful in the wet and cold roads. They were swapped for hankooks by the dealer. Now on Goodyear's after a double blow out

In the UK BYD supply the Dolphins with Hankook tyres and they transform the driving, in a good way of course.
Today in China BYD just launched dolphin 300 KM version starting price 14K USD
Are you sure it has autonomous driving? It's not mentioned in the official website.

Should the gear selector not be forward for D, to go forward, and back for R, to go backwards... why would you want to hit it forward to go backwards
Hi. I saw you reviewing some Mahindra vehicles but you should try Tata as well... especially the new harrier and safari
Unfortunately, Tata cars are not available in Australia. As of now, I think Mahindra has set up shop in more countries than Tata Motors.

The real question is would you pick the Dolphin or the MG4? We bought the Dolphin. Mostly because the Dolphin Premium had a LFP battery and better features for less money. Driving performance is nice and all but I’ll take creature comforts thanks

I don't know if it's just me but the design of the front of the dolphin looks like the car equivevelent of the LDV EV80. I personnally really like the look of the interior except for the digital gauge cluster and tablet car manufacture seem to be sticking on to every car but I have this complaint with just about every new car.
I really just dont get the name. It's honestly just...so lame or strange?
Had to adjust the currency to mine to get a fewl of the price. Crazy they can get it so low.
But of course with such a cheap price cant help but feel there is a catch somewhere along the way

How about the insurance costs for the BYD? It seems all EVs have astronomically high insurance costs due to the expensive repairs
Just got a quote on a Seal Performance as I'm picking mine up tomorrow. Quote came in at $1200. That's $500 less than my Kia Stinger GT.
@@frankandrews4470I assume you mean Australian dollars so when I exchanged it for USD...wow buddy you are paying a lot. At least if I got everything right. I never met anyone with such high insurance.
@baronvonjo1929 just to clarify that amount is for a full year and my new EV is less than my ICE car so insurance with EVs isn't that bad here in Australia at the moment. That may chance as the take up of EVs increases.

My EV6 is about $1000 per year, versus my 2015 Skoda Octavia at $960 per year. Not terrible.

I just saw a dolphin on the road in Kenmore, and it looked surprisingly terrific

do some research before you comment, wouldn't want you to continue sounding like a mouthbreather @@nuclearfishin1185. It's the PETROL FUEL and PETROL EMISSIONS systems that catch fire in BYD cars. Look up the facts. They should stop making hybrids and switch to EV only for better safety.

I’m concerned the Queensland government will change at this year‘s election and the Silverspoon LNP party who hate the the planet and love car dealers will cease the current $6000 buyer rebate. Maybe time for a Dolphin
