Thank you VC. I’ve learned quite a bit from your videos, you do a great job with them I’ve used them to guide and inform my auto tool upgrades, and thanks to you I’m able to complete the drywall aspect of renovations much quicker with my little hillbilly house flipping/renting business Entertaining, funny, educational. Keep’m coming brother Vancouver Carpenter and the Trailer Park Boys.... you gotta love Canadians
Ben, can you make a point of telling us when you're using hot mud and when you're using all-purpose (or something else)? I feel like it's obvious to you, but not to the rest of us, and getting a sense of what to use when can be…tricky! Thanks.
It's pretty safe to say, when using things like tubes, flushers, etc that it is thinned down all-purpose. Hot mud would set up too fast and gum up all the tools.
I find the flushers work great for vertical internals, especially on Level Line, which is how we do it. We use the MudRunner for all the paper taped horizontals, but it takes practice to get good at. It isn’t easy easy as it looks. Neither is the Bazooka, but once you get the hang of them there really is no looking back.
After watching your channel, I realized that I was doing way too much sanding and why. Your drywall videos have been extremely helpful and have saved me a lot of frustration when doing drywall.
Again--a great video and I'm learning a lot as a newbie in drywalling. I'm the end grunt muscle guy mostly on our construction projects but they are letting me learn with their drywall guys more. Thanks. Anton
I'm trying to finish a room started by someone else. The drywall is a mess. Lots of cracks and holes where the mud dried. The walls are not the least bit straight and there are huge differences in angle from top to bottom between the existing wall and the new wall that I am going to have to fill in. I am not the least bit skilled at this. And I have shoulder problems like you do. Plus I'm old and it's really hard to get up and down off the floor. I have not been able to master the use of the wide tools. I just smear it around and leave lots of streaks down the wall. Hideous. All I can seem to master is the use of the 6 or 8 inch wide blade, and only going sideways not down the wall. I can get a nice smooth coat going sideways but that leaves dozens of pull offs I guess you call them on the edge of the blade. But compared to how ugly the first coat was this is a huge improvement. I can sand off the pull offs. But if I try to take the wide blade down the wall I get gouges and lumps that would need filling and sanding (I did sand off the corners of the blades too like you showed and that helps some). I can feather it pretty well going sideway starting off by pushing hard on the dry wall edge then slowly pushing less as I get to the corner. But even though I can't follow the instructions you are teaching I am still learning a lot about proper taping and mudding. My early attempts at drywall years ago led to walls full of cracks as the room heated and cooled over the years. I think I could avoid that if I was doing it again. Love your videos. They make this painful task almost fun to watch :)
Shabbat Shalom. Ignore the critics, you're doing the work and posting it publicly. Looks great. I was doing it last night and my cuts arent that straight. Have a great day. Peace, brother. :-)
Hi Ben, can you put a link of all the tools you used on this video? I’m looking for the exact same tools to up my production. I’m still doing things with just a 4” knofe
Hey Ben, when applying tape to flat joints do you put the crease side of the tape in or out? I have watched your videos but can't see which way it is supposed to go. Great videos and thanks!
Enjoyed all your vids as they provide great information. This is off topic, but have just a few questions regarding pre-filling. Do you pre-fill with Durabond (hot mud). If so, do you mesh tape? If mesh tape is embedded into the subsurface, can you use paper drywall tape. I will be skim coating my ceiling and want to make sure it is prepped right. Thank you for any advise.
A drywaller cleaning up the leftover mud? What's next? The electrician sweeping up after himself? Great vid, I keep switching back and forth but usually do super taper because it's already setup and just want to get the taping done lol
I watched one of your old videos where you jokingly said your 90 degree corner trowel/ knife was your plank shim/ leveler. How is this different, or have you changed your mind? I hate doing corners and am looking for new options.
i know your sand pole isn't the star of the show , could you share the manufacture of the sand pole you use. I used to own one and would like to buy another, i think it was a Canadian manufacturer , thx
Im sorry are you living in the 19th century? Not to be rude but what is a super taper? Either you have a banjo or a bazooka. Running tape by hand is so outdated, and plus box tools allow you to roll and plow your angles then use and angle box to skim every angle. Your techinque would add hrs and hrs to this job
Painter's have to clean up most of Drywaller's mud because it dries and becomes dusty and we don't like it. If it's in the middle of the room then maybe leave it for the floor guys 🙈
I believe it's probably one of the better unlicensed trades from a financial aspect. New construction particularly not a roof leaked and now a tiny patch is needed. It's quite physical tho. Like a concrete guy, he should make enough to retire early because you shouldn't plan to have the health to continue working at 70
Dear whoever, stop trying to get dead flat walls an perfect corners. Texture makes everything look and feel nice, and allows for imperfections. A simple skiptrowel skim makes simple sheetrock look and feel like custom plaster walls, is easier to match future repairs to and isn't required to be perfect. If you're a professional explain it to your customers, if you're a customer ask your builder and if you're Vancouver drywaller demo it please.
Honestly, you skate better than me, but I can tape anything by hand, much more cleanly and uniformly, and quicker, with nothing but a 6 inch knife, a pan, and a tape rack. Sorry. I still like watching your channel. I'd give you some tips if you were willing to learn.

Always love it when you use the tube, corner roller and flushers. Great video as always thanks Ben
Thanks 👍

Probably taping mud yellow box for imbedding and light sand green box for topping and skim coats he's from Vancouver it's what we use here

Quick question on corners, if I have drywall meeting a plaster wall will regular mud work to tape the corner from floor to ceiling?
Does the flusher work better than a angled head?
Hi Ben, great vid. Would you recommend skim coating old horse hair plaster? If so, what product would you recommend?
Can you please put links in the description to all these tools? Thanks.
extension poles, i find most wobble/clunky. What do you find best? (southwestern Ontario)
Great job 👍
What do you think about the columbia taper set?

Lol Was gonna say bazooka and mechanical flusher but you covered that.. But you do do good work

Cleaning up mud? Any 1/4 gap in the base that would have left could get caulked in. Kidding.......kinda
The electrician comment is spot on. They couldn't leave more crap around if they tried.
I watched one of your old videos where you jokingly said your 90 degree corner trowel/ knife was your plank shim/ leveler. How is this different, or have you changed your mind? I hate doing corners and am looking for new options.
These are totally different than a hand held corner trowel. There are some affordable options. I will post a video in a couple of weeks.
Our plasterers leave those dags at the bottom and we have to knock them off to do our skirting (base) very annoying.
I saw a different channel that a guy used colored tinted mud to see it easier.
I wonder if putting a paper plate or piece of cardboard on the floor so the mud doesn't fall on the concrete 🤔
Wonder if that would do what? Try a complete sentence next time
@@natemartinez4595 haha...I did complete the sentence...just forgot to write it.🤪
Nice. Thank you.
You didn't walk on a bucket. I was so disappointed ;)

All about the corners.
It is. Accent Walls and Top of Walls To Ceiling Cut in with paint has to have perfect lines. I've had to make lines appear straight
wait a second, youre ben degros the skateboarder!!!
Yup! I just found that out too hahah!
yes, even skateboarders do serious things for work 😂
Good for demonstrating but a banjo with no prefill is by far the fastest
SHIT! I need these tools!
Wait tell you try boxes not hard to use really and they save so much time
Thank you for sharing your expertise .. it is really appreciated!!
A little bit of mud on the floor? I hate when drywall guys leave globs on the floor! Especialy bathrooms where the cement board is already down!
