Once again another professional video that mentioned nothing about the metal clips that go in the caliper thats something !!!!!!
These brakes pad don't use metal rattle clips, they are built in to the pad itself. When you get pad set it for a range of different vehicles not just the one you are working on.
One of the best and easiest to follow brake/rotor videos I've seen. The others don't bother mentioning the grease as you show here. (note: I open the bleeder valve when compressing the caliper to relieve pressure) Thanks!

Always compress the caliper piston before you remove the caliper, it`s soooo much easier, good job greasing the pins, but you set one of the pins right into the dirt that you just cleaned off.
I'm going to be a 1st time brake pad cha ger. Lol! All videos I've seen, they take the caliper off, then compress it....how do u compress it before taking the caliper off?? And also, aren't you supposed to bleed the brakes after the job is done??

Just another defective RUclips video on how not to change your brakes. Without that shim those brake pads are going to be rattling like crazy and causing all kinds of breaking issues. There needs to be fact checkers with these videos because most of them will get you killed
i couldn't figure out how to mount the pads w/the springs. it turned out that's easy. you replace the rotor if it's warped or worn below specs. i just do a visual & measure if it's questionable. the rotor specs you need to google: 24.75 mm minimum thickness or 1"

do you always get new rotors for pads, or is that just for good measure?
+jasonsteiner57 You rarely need to replace the rotors. It looked like the ones he replaced had a circular gouge in them so that's why he needed to swap them. As long as you replace your brake pads in regular intervals so they don't get to low and scratch the rotors, you should never need to change the rotors.
I did a brake job on my roommates 04 explorer on Christmas eve three years ago. He let it go so long tHat the only thing stopping him his last trip to work and back was the caliper piston on the passenger side. As he was coming to a stop in the driveway the caliper pushed all the way out, spewing fluid (wasn't much left) all over the driveway. He then bumped into the garage door and that was what stopped him completely! So because he didn't know Jack shit about vehicles, guess who spent the day before Christmas fixing his shit? Me! He is damn lucky Autozone is a block away and just happened to have two calipers, two rotors, (both of which were damn near razor thin) and pads for his explorer!

You didn't mention the bolt sizes. Thanks to Jimmy Carter they are metric. Six-point sockets are 1/4 inch drive... That and a recent air wrench visit rounded the bolt. Illustrative video though.

just changed my 2006 ford taurus se front brakes to drilled and slotted rotors and new brakes. its very simple to do. but give yourself time. preparation is a must. and it was 12mm for the calipers and 15mm for the rotors. im thinking i could do a better video for everyone. because the little things matter in videos.

Even though you asked this question a long ass time ago I still wanted to comment because I was really happy to find out that there was bairly any different between the two years that by now my 99 has more 2000 parts on it than it does 99 parts.
I appreciate your video a lot. I respect all of the do it yourself videos people make but tend to get irritated to much when I'm having to listen to the individual talk unnecessarily about miscellaneous stuff that isn't relevant to topic. Your video was clean and professional all the way until the end when you had some guy pressing the brake in shorts with black socks. All I could keep thinking was.. Why, why?

After I was done, a 99 taurus, which was basically the same, I notices removable metal shields on the back of my old pads. I could have put these on the new ones. Should I save them and put them on another day? Thanks.
We suggest putting them on the new pads. But its not needed and your car will operate fine.

Are the back brake pads the same set up??

+JaysonPrime I have drum brakes on the rear of my 2004 Taurus. They were a pain in the arse.
+JaysonPrime The rears are usually drum brakes on a Ford Taurus. They are way more complicated and difficult to change. I usually have a mechanic change them for me and do the front discs myself. The good thing about drum brakes is the pads are much larger and enclosed, plus they are in the rear which usually don't have to work as hard, so you really only need to change them once ever 40,000 - 60,000 miles.
Yeah my brother and I did the drums on my former Taurus and wow what a pain. It took us an hour to get one of the drums off. It took all the strength and weight I've got (and I'm almost 300 lbs) and a pear of vice grips to get one of the springs to stretch to the hole. I'll never mess with drums again. And by that I mean my new(er) car has 4 wheel disc.
Yep the springs can be tough, but they get easier with the more you do them

What size bolt/socket I mean
There was no mention of removing brake fluid before recessing piston into caliper.
Richard Rieper There is no need for removing the fluid from the reservoir because you are simply just replacing the fluid used when the brake pads are worn down. Now if you have had to add fluid in between brake jobs we suggest looking for a leak somewhere in the system.
+Richard Rieper Yeah you should remove fluid when changing the brakes. If you do you're just increasing the chance of getting air in the system. They only reason you would remove and replace fluid is if you have a leak or already have air in the system.
dont they clip on whats the clips some has pins.
Those springs on the pads can really piss you off if they flop around like mine, and they were super tight and short..they suck!
Atleast tell what tools you need... arrg..

What where the torque specs
The caliper bracket gets torqued to 70 ft lb with blue loctite and never ever put them on without the blue loctite.
The caliper bracket bolts that attached to the slides are talked at 25 lb and also get blue loctite.
You didn't give any torque values for the bolts.
Tight is good. Don't really need a torque wrench. Thanks for watching!
