      He had Thiem in the draw, the number 3 player in the world a winner of a grand slam, and last years runner up Zverev, yes I know Thiem lost early but that doesn't matter, he still had a tougher draw than Nadal

    As a Rafa fan, I'm grateful to have witness Novak play. Not only is he an extraordinary champion, but a wonderful human being. I don't care what the bullshit media thinks or says. He is just a class act. Congratulations Nole! on another terrific win.

      You are a true fan of tennis! I have great respect for Rafa and Roger even as a Nole fan. All 3 wouldn't be as good without each other pushing one another to greater heights. This is the golden age of tennis and unfortunately, it's closer to the end than the beginning. It's time to push our differences aside and appreciate these 3 great champions for elevating the sport to the absolute peak. We will never see a better trio of players competing against each other in any other sport ever again.

      It is true, he had a tear in oblique. We don't know the extent but it was not mild by the looks of it. He has made a documentary on it, there are also MRI scans in it so all will be revealed by the end of this year. Novak is truly the GOAT by this point, only a fool would deny this fact.

      It's a close call I would say. If you elaborate on the greatest ever at AO, you'll have to consider Jim Courier as well. He won AO a couple of Times in the begining of the 90's when tennis was the toughest with players as Sampras, Edberg, Becker, Lendl, Agassi, Stich, Ivanesevic, Chang, etc.

When we talk tennis legends of the 80s 90s they are always referred to in terms of total number of slams won. I guess as they are the pinicle of the sport it makes sense. Rightly or wrongly it's unlikely to change anytime soon.

      He moved and played defense all out today with no restrictions in movement. That's impossible with an abdominal/oblique tear. He exaggerated the injury like usual. It's what Djokobitch does, it's his thing.

      @@tesina21 The AO doctors and physios confirmed it so you are indeed wrong. A tear has several grades. With a Grade 1 tear an athlete can still play when they use the right methods of recovery, painkillers and rest periods. All of which Novak clearly did because he had access to it at AO. You should probably work on becoming a nicer individual as opposed to one that name calls and vilifies. It doesn't hurt to be kind. And it's also free. Good day.

    Watching Djokovic since 2008 continuously, I'm well aware of how his grunts sound. After his injury, I could hear the painful grunts, not the effort ones and I was shocked that people including commentators still questioned his injury, throwing logic down the drain and being ignorant and just throwing away opinions. Imagine how hurt a human being must get if he is not only battling with tough luck like the USO default and an injury in his favorite slam, but then the criticism from media calling names and questioning him everytime. Despite all this unfairness and challenges, he manages to focus on Tennis and win big points, which to me is one of the greatest things about him!

    In my eyes he's the GOAT already. Weeks at no.1 soon, Nole Slam, H2H, EOY no.1, Gold Masters, he beat Rafa at RG, he beat Roger many times at Wimbledon. Just a few little touches and it'll be sealed in the eyes of media and tennis fans.

      What about: Slams, Slam H2H, Match Record, Olympics and countless smaller records that Djokovic doesn't hold. There's no clear winner of the career best player debate right now and trying to argue anyone is the goat while any member of the big three is still playing is meaningless because you don't know the future. If one of them is playing then they have the potential to take records from the others or achieve new ones.

      As much as Im a novak supporter i dont think the year he beaten Nadal in RG can be really be counted though, that was the worst year for Nadal due to injuries and there were many players beaten him on clay during that year. Nadal lost in straight sets. Anyways a win is a win.

      @@alexfrye6 Sorry Alex but the Olympics mean very little to Professional Tennis Players. If it did, then the Big 3 would not have such a lousy record. The Olympics don't really factor to the Yearly Rankings since they are only played once every 4 years.
      Of course, if Olympics are important to you then you should judge the GOAT merely on the Olympics - and keep the ATP1000 ATP Finals and Grand Slams seperate.

Nobody has won more than 7 of the tournaments, Djokovic won all nine at least twice. Overall H2h, weeks at n1, EOY n1, 5 atp finals, 4 slams in a row. We can always argue about the GOAT, but no doubt Novak is the most complete player of all time.

    Even if he were to stop at 18 (which won’t happen), his 18 Majors are more impressive than Federer’s 20, given the adversity he has faced from the crowds and the quality of players he beat in those semi finals and finals. We can’t say for sure who is the GOAT until the big 3 retires, but there is no obvious answer as it sits right now.

It's just that Roger has been beaten in more of those slam finals by the other two than he was able to win versus Rafael and Novak, a point which is no small one to make, mind you.       I ❤️ ❤️ Nole but he stole the US open from himself. I love his emotion but it was unbridled in the US open. He smashed a ball in the lady’s neck. They had to default him. He would have been at 19 if he had checked himself.

    Slam number 19 and 20 will come later this year(Wimbledon and USO)
    It's nice not to differentiate when it comes to Big3, they are all so damned good and have accieved so much. But if I had to pick a "GOAT", I'll go with Novak Djokovic. Simply an amazing player!

    when the tear occured in the 3rd round, right away all of the fedals an raffa fans right away questioned him, right away they called him a faker as always...... and as it turned out, he did tear an oblique muscle yet stilled won the tournament facing younger hungry players... the heart of a lion, which is why i am a big fan of this man..............congrats Djoker!

      Some things he does in 2021 are even better than 2011 rally wise. There are some matches I've rewatched from 2011 where he's against Nadal and rallies are quite slow and passive. Then you look this match and both Djoko and Medvedev rally quality was high. Djoko was constantly moving Medvedev around.

    Federer, Nadal, Novak are no doubt about their brilliance on court and their respective history but Novak, I think, is turning tables and taking tennis to different level he has still a lot to show with his power, wit the way he play and his mental toughness to handle such pressures whenever he plays against opponent.

      Tear means we don't need to think in centimeters - may b in millimeters,which can be easily managed with painkillers ,straping,rest .And physio means not only an exercises but also involves a relaxation n advices to avoid over strain of the affected n how to balance it with the help of other muscles .

    If Djokovic didn’t accidentally hit that line judge at the UO, he would’ve run away with that, too. That UO final was pathetic. No way two guys playing that poorly beat Novak. Novak outlasted Federer in the 2019 wimbledon final. Does anyone honestly think he couldn’t beat Zverev (a guy with the yips) and Thiem (started out like crap and couldn’t walk at the end)?
    That UO final showed the difference between the freaks who’ve been at the top of the sport for ~18 years and normal humans.

    How could anyone not like Novak is beyond me. He's not only a great champion that comes once every 200 years but he is also a giant of a human being. Don't take my word for it, take Medvedev's. Perhaps it's hard for some people to love and admire perfection, and Novak is as close as one can get to perfection.

    Of all the things about Nole, he developed his game. I remember watching him and saying this guy has a bad serve. He has developed and from 1 ace to 100plus in a tournament=champion. Develop, adjust just like all other products to remain on top.
