  • The new 535-3 Carbon Fiber/S90V Bugout.
Is this the best Bugout Benchmade has put out so far? I believe so. It's everything the original Bugout was missing. Solid scales, high-end steel and a flawless design.
In this video, we go over my thoughts of the new Bugout.

I love my CF 535-3. The CF does feel awesome. Swapped out the washers for Knife Works oversized washers, added a little of oil, and it's butter smooth. The larger backspacer probably helps balance the knife due to the lightweight CF. It seems that way, at least.

Wow, this video is over a year old, ok so, i just recently got the Carbon Fiber, both the mini and the full size, i also have 2 other bugouts, the aluminum, and a BladeHQ limited edition jade G-10 with M4 steel. While i definitely love all my bugouts, i am much more in love with my aluminum bugout, it just really speaks to me, the aesthetics are just extremely pleasing to my eye, not that the carbon fiber isnt, but the aluminum also feels really nice in my hand. Bugouts FTW!

Much more rigid, as well sturdy than the composit plastic. The knife has a nice pop every time you open it. One draw back, the blue spacer digs into my hand every time I open it.

I just got mine. I've had several Bugouts, all modded and scale swapped. I had many problems with factory screws being stripped, lock stick, broken axis lock springs, terrible centering from factory etc. I ended up selling them because of the issues I had with Benchmade in general. BUT... I had to get more. I loved the pain I guess. Ended up with just one Benchmade, the 781. The 781 is perfect. But I still longed for the light weight 535. Now that the 535-3 is in my hot little hands, I can say that a couple minor gripes are coming back, but the scales on this factory Carbon are SWEEEEEET. And the back spacer? AMAZING! Blade? Throws rainbows from the grind like a 940! My old 535's were too stonewashed to see this effect. It's not AS vibrant as the 940, but it's still hot. I had to adjust the pivot looser, and add some oil. It should break in right about the time that the springs break- literally! I might send it back for repairs this time instead of having to replace them with inferior quality springs from eBay, but yeah........

Subscribed! Great review. Appreciate your rationale. I tried a 535-3 CF at a local shop and it was really tight and that dissuaded me from considering it. But I imagine its just a matter of breaking in?

@@SolGuy42 That's the way to do it- leave it slighly tight and work it with oil! The bronze washers will break in and help rotate the blade over time.
Get a little tube of blue loctite and put it on th thread of the screw and replace it. Get it back to slighly tight, and you're in business. Never lost a screw after using it.

Hey everyday minimalist or anyone that purchased this knife. Do you guys notice the coloration difference between the backspacer and the thumb studs that are blue on this knife? My backspacer looks like a flat blue and the thumb stud is more a neon blue color. Don't know why this bothers the hell out of me but I contacted Benchmade about it and they said the anodization process makes the coloration hard to match but I can send it back in and they can try to match it up better. Just wanted to see if anyone else is noticing this!? I really rather not send it in if it is the same on all of them. Is still suck on a knife at this price point though!

In your benchmade anthem review, you said you wish it was in s90v because that was your favorite steel. This one is s90v but you said you liked 20cv a little better. Have you changed your position on these two steels in the last 5 months for some reason? (I mean no disrespect by asking this question, and I love your channel. Just wondering because I’m starting to get into higher dollar knives and knife steel, and trying to figure out the differences in edge retention, chipping, sharpening, etc)
