The voters have spoken and he has won fairly. Let's give the newly elected mayor and his team a chance to do his job before prejudging. It's easy to complain and criticize but it takes courage to stand up and do something for the community. All the best to you and your team, Mayor Sim. Restore Vancouver back to its glory days.
Updated comment: I digress from my comments above made months ago when Mayor Sim was newly elected. He has had his chance to make a difference but alas; really disappointed how things turn out under his leadership...no change. Just different face, different name but the same old same old approach.
if he can't stand the complains and criticism he is not qualified to be a mayor of the city.
Free fentynal for all the addicts don't forget food and warehouse , preferably on deserted Island like lepers . Only thing is it is socially contagious. Vancouver has long history of yupee mayor's with leftist gay agendas. LOL poopee city now with Shanti streets.
though there's a lot of emphasis on Chinatown, I think the homelessness and drug issue is spreading fast to all other parts of the city. This time we add 100 cops, 100 extra workers, but they (the drug addict homeless) keep coming to BC because of our super chill drug policy. So what's the end going to look like? San Franscisco? Tents everywhere?
We need to take a hard stance and not allow tents on sidewalks (ANYWHERE), no pan handling and seizer of goods on sidewalks without permits (these are always stolen items).
I may sound harsh, but the drug addict homeless need housing, need to get treatment they need, and not be given freedom to choose to be on streets to steal and shoot up the next hit.
Anyways, good luck Ken, we are behind you!
That's Justin's plan
If you give them a house they will trash and most likely end up ODing alone. Housing is not the problem.
the homeless have been coming here since the 70s because they wont freeze to death.
Vancouver will never get better. Its a social experiment. Get used to it.
And where would you suggest the houseless go then? Perhaps if you're so keen on solving the houseless problem by taking away their homes, you will be open to opening a space in your house for someone to live?
It's more complicated than illegality of drugs and harsher policing. This only increases our spending on the problem but makes it worse. The answer isn't taking away shelter from the houseless and it certainly isn't gonna get better to further criminalize drug users and increase our prison spending. I am not sure what the answer is but Ken Sim's policy is definitely weak
Well I was assaulted as a disabled persons and was absolutely crippled for the rest of my life . I can no longer work again , walk properly again , feel my hands ever again . I get nothing as a natural born Canadian in the city . Zero nada nothing nor help at home even to clean myself from the brutal beating I suffered for helping two less fortunate seniors .
These days, all those virtue signaling hypocrites are always shrieking about the rights of the criminals, but never the rights of the innocent that are violated by these scums and dregs of society.
100 mental health nurses means nothing if your not going to lock up and treat addictions properly
So putting people behind bars is your answer lol.
Love tRump much ?
Locking up an addict isnt to going to help unless maybe they've committed a crime
@@randomwalk1551 locking up an addict in a facility where they can get help is better than leaving them to their own devices in the streets, kept in a facility wherein they can go cold turkey and establish good habits is better for them in the long run.
@@johnisaacfelipe6357 so you're going to take away their freedom because they're an addict? That's not how it works. And there are facilities in the community that try to help addicts get off whatever drugs they're on
@@randomwalk1551 Yes, I will take away their freedom because they're an addict, if I don't, the vast majority of them will be stuck in the cycle of self destruction. The Facilities are open but treatment against the influence of addiction needs to happen in a continuous streak of months and only people with extreme self restraint can do so , something not everyone has.
Actions speak louder than words, let's see what he'll do.
More than those criminal commies
Let’s see if he can make changes
they want crime to decrease but at the same time they're responsible for the distribution of drugs
First world huh ?!?!
Having 100 extra police officers and mental health workers is not enough. You need to change the laws that will ensure drug addicts and violent criminals stay in jail indefinitely.
It's what the city can do. Judges are federal and provincial.
Sure. Hire more Police. Who really thinks 'policing' the homeless, mentally ill, and addicted members of the community will help anyone? To a hammer, everything is a nail. Society needs different tools, not bigger hammers.
Yes it will, and enforce the laws! Lock em up!
Evict all homeless from the city. If you don't have ID with a legal, fixed address, out you go!
Well we certainly elected a bunch of tools......
You can't vote these problems out.
Yes you can
@@vancouver4sure okay
Oh on this channel forgot to add the Vancouver please please on my block in front of my senior citizens building where we're forced to inhale hard drugs as we come into our building the place took 3 young dudes off the street with all guns that were fully loaded.
I see Assults almost daily through my window on the 4th floor window and I'm sick of it on Hastings street I also see people dying from my window
You are experiencing real Vancouver life, enjoy it while it lasts, which is a very long time.
@@winstonsmith935 I've never seen governments work so hard in all my life to create World War 3 and a nuclear war and I say bring it on
Finally, simple solutions for complicated problems. Round numbers and vague promises, the system works!
1:28 sure of course...
So as a qualified Accountant he should be good at controlling spending! What does he know about being a Mayor? What does his support staff know about controlling a large city, what are their qualifications? As a Professional Engineer and Engineering Auditor I have to have a degree, and many years of experience. Now you know how unqualified people run our cities and Governments.
What has the current mayor and his team done for Vancouver for the last years?
It's not rocket science... the blunderers who have been in charge make it look hard, but it really isn't.... there is no life for anyone without civil order and safe streets
Well, at least you don't have Bill Vander Zalm ... anymore.
I'm not for or nay Ken Sim as I'm not even from Vancouver but you have absolutely no clue what a competent CPA is capable of doing. If you are a true professional you would understand professionals develop soft skills in life to identify and solve problems using critical thinking abilities and lead communities. Why are there so many engineers converting to finance to manage people's investment portfolio? Why are many CFOs and CEOs accountants?
@@TibFoxL To control Budgets and overspending, I worked for Large Oil and Gas companies on 11 billion dollar Capital Projects , Regular Audits on the Contractors is where things start to spiral out of Control, that’s when CEOs call in Engineering Audits to see where the money is disappearing too. Same with Government and local government, it’s all Taxpayers money so overspending is not a problem for City Hall, plenty more where that came from. So how much has Surrey Spent on its own Police force??, Now the new Mayor wants to abandon all that spending and abolish the Surrey Police Force, what happened to a Study to see if it’s cheaper to stay the course or abandon all the Previous Spending? Incompetence is what is a familiar theme in all governments, that’s why you the taxpayers foot the bill without question, not so in big Corporations, shareholders want to know where the money is going, they have a stake in the good or bad outcome of a Project. Trudeau spent twice the money on what the Pipeline he bought was worth, incompetent leadership at the top level.
Ken is a newcomer to Government, let’s see what he achieves for Vancouver, Drugs, Murder, Homelessness on Streets have all got to be addressed, hope his soft skills are up to the task?
Ken was elected with 18% of voters, hardly a "resounding win." Don't worry though, he'll make sure the developers continue what Vision/NPA started and ensure that the Whistler-fircation of Vancouver continues........
Stfu kennedy let the province rot 😂 lived there long enough to see it
the trick isn't more police and mental-health professionals. because, not only is that what politicians always say & do (if they have the funds/or the will) - it's also not-sustainable; you have to raise taxes to pay for it. the sustainable answer is to put convicts to work - doing work that pays the city for the inconvenience of crime. the more violent the crime, the more arcane the conditions - until everyone is on the same-page, with regards to criminal-justice; even the criminals. the real-problem, is societal attitudes towards risk of change. and, if you have a society that is slowly drifting more Left-ward politically (because you have a changing demographic, a news media unwilling to spot the obvious, greater deficits, increasing population), you get worse and worse outcomes - unbeknownst; like a frog in hot water. and so, the system has to change, from a voting-perspective, as in no-free-voting, no government-voting, no welfare-voting etc.
because, all of the problems we see today, are the result of irresponsible conduct by both voters, politicians, and individuals committing crimes both minor/major.
100 really ! I think he means 1000🤷♂️
Chinada in action
He is terrible and he has to go
Isn't the name Chinatown a little racist? Is Canada supposed to be enclaves of people of particular national heritage? Is that why it's called a mosaic instead of a melting pot, because it's a bunch of different monotone patches that nobody wants to bleed into each other? Is there an Africatown? Would anybody tolerate that? How about Indiatown, where's that? There was a place in Nova Scotia called Africville, believe it or not, it was a horrible shantytown and was eventually torn down and made into a park. Nobody questioned that being racist.
What a spicy comment thread.
ccp owns Vancouver
No they don't, now return to Europe
I didn't see any hobos and junkies when I visited Beijing a few years ago. They're doing something right!
@@Dusty338 Just like prisons, crime rate appears to be low and you don't see many hobos and junkies.
@@Dusty338 well a hobo killed a cop today so lets see how quickly they get cleared out
Guess the Kkk owned Vancouver before? What a stupid thing to say
chinatown is a few blocks, its not all of Vancouver, Mr. Vancouver mayor.
he didn't make this video... the CBC did...
He sees a new Chinatown, the size of Beijing.
Maybe the Chinese should just simply integrate into Canadian society. Only immigrants speak in group. They are always out to protect themselves wether or not it’s good for Canadians. Selfish.
Are we sure this guy wasn’t installed by the CCP? 😂
he was
I think British Columbia is already owned by China.
No way, learn some history of what happened in hk in 1960s that caused his parents’ move to Canada.
Tully Tuppins and you were installed here by german nazis. Weren't you?
No
Vancouver's Mayor will now obey orders from China without question and a Chinese National flag will be raised somewhere on the City Hall property.
So he's a "far right racist" and also "chinese spy"? you Stewart fans really can't think logically eh
Agnetha LaDuff he is. Ot Chinese he s Canadian.
You on the other hand are from EUROPE so go back to Europe and stay there.
Uhm... what makes you say that? Not every person of East Asian descent supports the Chinese Communist Regime. Sim's parents came from Hong Kong which has been occupied by the same despotic regime since 1997.
@@NathanielChristopher If that's the case, Sim probably hates the Chinese Communist party more then most in Canada.
@@NathanielChristopher You are right that not every person of East Asian decent supports the CCP. However, he is obviously pro China and supported(invested) by CCP. It's quite obvious if you pay attention to what he says or did not say about Taiwan. The Chinese state medias also support him. Also if your family has business in China, you are most likely pro China because you have to be, at least publicly
白人到了温哥华也要学敬酒!
Lets see if he will be re-elected in 4 years. The very last thing the downtown east side are a 100 cops. at a cost of a minimum of 15 million dollars per year.
