It's just like how he went from being a tag-along to literally the only thing that kept the team from falling apart, and how he went from wearing his true feelings on his sleeves to burying them deep beneath the ground so he could focus on keeping everyone else upright.

I loved the first animatic and I thought it was gonna be about Pearl but this is just brilliant. It showcases everyone that Rose has hurt. Pearl, Greg, Garnet, and Steven; Steven's cutaway was amazing it shows how he has to deal with his mother's mistake, not only that but it shows that he's a victim of her lies too.

Amethyst wasn't in this animatic but i suppose it makes sense since she wasn't with them until after the war so wasn't affected by her lies as much.
I think it would be cool if against Steven it was Blue and Yellow. Rose/Pink Diamond left a huge mess that steven had to go up against, all without knowing the whole story, just what he was told. Either way, excellent animatic!

I love this video. Especially how it shows not only Pearl's emotions but Greg as well. Adding Garnet at the end and all three of them cornering Steven just fits so well with the current mood of the series right now. Especially with the lastest episode.

I loved the sight of Pearl telling Rose off, but it switching to Greg and that powerful final image? Chilled me to my bones.

I suppose...because Steven is just a kid that never got to know her mother, and create his own image of his mother, but the worst is not that, the worst and saddest part of all of this, is that everyone looks for an answer, a reason to why Rose wanted to be in Earth rather than homeworld, to fall in love with a human, etc
YES, that Greg cutaway was SO GOOD, and the Pearl and Garnet cutting in!! It shows how Rose hurt those who loved her, and then showed how she left that burden on Steven. Not to mention the frames look GORGEOUS. Great job!!

The fact that Greg is so broken up about Rose leaving breaks my heart, but it's almost sadder to know that he hardly even reacts to knowing that she was a completely different person. she lied to Greg and everyone else and did terrible things. and to know that he doesn't even bat an eye at her being Pink Diamond is confusing. I guess you could say I have questions too....
Sophia Koeppen maybe he accepts her and her mistakes? Even though he may be hurt, he really did love Rose/Pink. Love can make you bat an eye at the wrong things your partner does
And when your in love, truly in love, you forgive your partner for everything they’ve done. You accept them for who they are. Some people don’t realize that and don’t react the way they should. Love is strange
I think its about greg loved the person rose is. at that time in the present. he knows what its like to reinvent yourself. like he said he never told her his last name wasn't originally universe. It might be a small thing but as they say a rose by any other name smells just as sweet.
her backstory might be important to pearl, garnet and the other diamonds and homeworld and stuff and its not cool completely...but she did do her best to save the planet. her time with her friends weren't a lie. sure it turned out she was part of the establishment they were fighting but it doesn't change she was fighting it. and a simple rose quarts being able to 'choose' her destiny probably had a better inspirational impact than him she had show up as pink diamond. garnet, pearl and everyone can understandably be upset they knew rose for a long time and they thought they knew her inside and out and diamonds are a big thing to them even if they try to avoid thinking of it that way.
I think greg in the show might be a upset to some degree there was a lot about her he didn't know but I also think its fitting that while pearl, especially garnet, ruby, sapphire and the others are understandably upset and confused...the person rose married accepts it pretty easily. the human who saw her as a equal and got her to respect him. The past can be important but sometimes its important to judge a person for who they are in the present. an it doesn't change the important things. all that time they spent together was real and their love is real.

ik I'm late, but I have a feeling that he knew she probably lied...about lots of things. To a point where he wasn't even surprised that she was a completely different person. He might've known from a while ago that she was lying and hiding something, and now that it's come to light he can't even care, ya know?

i don't often comment on animatics, but this is just one of the best ones i've ever seen? god, the start was amazing all by its own - pearl being angry at her is something i nEED - but when you added GREG, and GARNET, and when they were all walking up to rose and then she was gone and they were questioning steven instead? it gave me literal goosebumps. not to mention that your art is absolutely gorgeous, your expressions are amazing, and you've conveyed all of their personalities and the way each character hurts, just, aAAAAH! this is so beautiful. i hope you continue to do more things like this in the future!!!

That ending set it off perfectly. I feel so bad for Steven. He really does have to deal with all the mess Rose/PD left in her wake. Even thought everyone knows Steven ISNT Rose, I still think they all hope he has the answers to their questions. It's heartbreaking.
That ending slapped me in the face!! I swear I screamed when Rose turned out to be Steven, you opened my Pandora's Box of repressed feelings for the show.
I really do love how Greg waits a beat to step forward at the end, like he's a little bit hesitant to take the accusatory role in the situation. He loved Rose and would probably find it hard to accuse her of things he doesn't want to believe are true to begin with. Excellent animatic! Thanks for punching me in the feels
This is fantastic! The facial expressions are spot on, the reveals throughout the animation are perfect and it doesn't feel too repetitive or forced. I love it!
Oh God, jeez this is great. I'd never heard the song so I was skeptical at the beginning, but it's an absolutely perfect choice.
I thought this was just going to be about Pearl, so as soon as that (incredibly clever and smooth!) transition to Greg happened, I verbally said "oh no." You really captured what he must have been going through as a single father. That got me.
And the ending, transitioning to Steven--OOF, my heart! I dont think I processed the shadows initially, do I thought Steven was asking Rose, which got me enough, but then to realise that he's the one being confronted was shattering (no pun intended).
The juxtaposition of coming down on a fully grown, large woman and then inserting a small child in that position but being treated exactly the same really demonstrates how unfair the situation is to Steven.
I actually have a lot to say about this and I want to but ugh I'm gonna cut it short just to let you know that you did a really good job. This was fantastic ❤
Damn, so good. Pretty much the whole Steven community at the moment. Just “I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS RIGHT NOW”. I do feel like this is very accurate. Loooved the switch to Greg. He doesn’t get a lot of love or attention in the fandom, I think. And I like that you did the switch with his mum to Steven. Good shite, goooood shite.
Oh my God. I just can't. This is amazing, but oh my God. Rose left without truly saying saying why besides she wanted Steven, and now Steven has to pay. He doesn't deserve that. I feel like one day Steven just gonna fill break down because of this. We've seen him go off on people because of it. The end just almost made me cry.
This is the absolute best animatic I have ever seen. The song fits the situation perfectly, the artwork is beautifully expressive, and the cutaways leave me speechless. I can't even put my feelings into words right now...just absolutely stunning, breathtaking, and heartbreaking. Thank you so much for the experience, and I look forward to seeing more artwork from you!
I want to leave so many more likes. The art was gorgeous. The transitions were seamless. The song was perfect. My only wish is that it would be made again in full color. Not because it isn't already amazing, but because it is so great already that I would love to feel like I am experiencing it for the first time again. Gurss I'll just have to watch this gorgeous animatic 50 times over for now.

I love how the meaning of the lyrics change along with who's singing. It shows the similarities and the contrast to all they're situations about Rose's death
I thought the ending was gonna be Steven stepping forward towards them saying I have questions
When he puts his hands in his pockets, it still feels like that very last "I have questions" is him saying it right back to them because Rose left them all clueless.
I feel like he was trying to answer to them, even if he himself doesn't know.
We need more emotional Greg animatics like this!! He's such a wonderful and unappreciated character. I can't even imagine how much Rose hurt him, unintentionally or not.
I love how Greg wasn't angry even, just confused, scared, lonely, while pearl, the being who has been through multiple wars for rose, feels so hurt and enraged, it fits like a motherfrickin glove
I'm in love with this animatic, it's so accurate and emotional, that truly amazed me but looking through comments I didn't see anybody pointing that Garnet was told by Rose to not question anything and after discovering who Rose really was she wants answers to all the questions she couldn't ask. I loved that part
This is no doubt one of the best Steven Universe animatics I've seen. All of those transitions from each character were ON POINT!

And she was _really_ young when Rose convinced her to go through with the shattering, and leave Homeworld forever to stay with her on Earth. You could tell from her mannerisms- she was like a young teenager. Fervent, young, and impulsive.
Remember the diamonds are older. So 6000 years is probably nothing

After three years this is still one of my favourites and was one of the ones that inspired me to take up storyboarding.
I really love the different perspectives that you draw characters in, you really have a talent with body language and transitioning between expressions of anger, confusion, hurt, and simmering hurt. The ending hit me like a ton of bricks. Very fun to watch. Thanks :)

This is honestly so incredible. I love how it lights on each person who was affected most by her lies- especially Steven, who's been forced to live with all of her decisions because according to homeworld gems "you have her gem, so you're rose/pink"

Man. I can't stop watching this. It's so powerful and tearful. Make a you think a lot about was she did to them all and how Steven have to leave with his mother mistakes with no answer and yet he suppose to be his mother. Well that what it was with Every one looking at him. Also heart broken seeing Greg and baby Steven as it makes me wonder what that was like. Losing someone you loved and now taking care of their child. But not just that. The fact that she became a part of Steven. Just straight up disappear leaving her mistakes with their son with no answer.
The song strangely fit the whole situation with rose. And good job btw it was awesome. 👍👍

That was so powerful. When Greg came up in the second verse that tore me apart. And then Steven? Oh man that was brilliant.
That ending where Steven was forced to take Rose's place- "Maybe they didn't matter to you as much as hiding from the mess you made! And that's why I'm here. Did you make just so that you wouldn't have to deal with your mistakes? Is that all I'm here for?" I got chills remembering that quote, when Rose was crowded in a corner, all of the sudden it was actually Steven. Thank you so much for this beautiful animatic. The end made me almost cry.

Woah, okay, where do I begin with this? I love how you portrayed Greg as a victim, how you showed him losing the woman he loved and being left behind with the most wonderful, confusing thing he's ever dealt with.

I appreciate how you didn't draw Amethyst closing in on Rose as everyone else did.

And my heart stopped when I watched the shadows of his family consume Steven, repeating "I have questions for you."

I know Pink/Rose has done awful things but at least she tried to fix them that’s what matters to me. Not all people even try but to fix their mistakes but she did but didn’t think about the bad stuff that could happen as a result of her rebellion. But it only started cause Yellow and Blue wouldn’t listen to Pink in the first place when Pink wanted to stop the colonization of earth. It filled Pink with so much anger and sadness that it clouded her judgment and that’s why she didn’t think about the bad that could happen the possibility of forced fusion and corruption and all the Gems and People who could die/shatter. But her clouded judgment dose not excuse her actions and the people and gems that she made suffer emotionally that were killed/shattered or made into forced fusion even corrupted. Pink/Rose had one thousands years to stop and just think to herself and think of all the possibilities of the bad that could happen but Pink/Rose didn’t till it was to late. But now her son Steven has to deal with all her mistakes crimes and lies she left behind and that is just a awful thing to do to your own child. Look I know Pink/Rose isn’t Human and didn’t even no what being a mother is but I no she loved Steven and didn’t want him to suffer from her mistakes. But Pink/Rose still should of at least have removed the seal on Pearl and tell all the Crystal Gems she was really Pink Diamond before she gave up her physical form to give birth to Steven so at least she could of left all her friends and love ones with a clear mind in peace. But look nobody is perfect and I still love Pink Diamond Rose Quartz whatever you wanna call her but she still a good person.

Dreamdraw I know all those things you said are true about Pink/Rose cause I Interpreted all those very things in my comment and said those things were true as well and you are entitled to your own opinion and I respect your opinion but I’m also entitled to my own opinion and I hope you will respect mine as well. But the main point I’m trying to make is nobody in the world is perfect everyone makes mistakes and when you do their will be always some kind of consequences for those actions. Pink/Rose was not perfect she like everyone makes mistakes that effected her and that effected others in the process but that’s why she is such a relatable character because that same kind of stuff happens in real life to real people Pink/Rose is not a perfect being she is like a real human being even though she is a Gem yes that is true but she is a Human by heart and like all humans we make mistakes that effect us and that can effect others and none of us are by any means perfect.

She was in love with her master, as a slave.. And she never make her own choices, she always served Rose.

Secondly, i agree that the Pink-pearl relationship was horrible but was It really pinks fault? from all we see of her she really did treat Pearl as her friend and as her own individual being dissapointed when she wasn't allowed to even imagine things without her permission ever going as far as ordering pearl to never stop thinking about what she wanted, again something that horribly missfired, Pink wanted Pearl to be free to choose for herself and instead she made her fall on love with her, which coupled with her "im just a Pearl,im worthless on my own" led to everything we saw about pearl.
This is just especulation but i can imagine that rose really wanted to believe that Pearl was free of choice and did what she did out of love and her own freedom (which is at least partly true) but that she always wondered if she really loved her or if It was just homeworld preconfiguration speaking, It is not like she could ask Pearl about it, she didn't even know herself. So she found other lovers but always ended Up returning to Pearl until Greg, you know the rest of the story.

oh wow this is so strong. i burst into tears with that shot of greg holding steven at 2:03 from the pure grief and agony you managed to capture.
If this was made in 2019 I think it would have been cool if the last part where Steven is looking up and the three shadows of Greg, Pearl and Garnet are looming over him, it was the Diamonds shadows instead.
Kind of misses the point of this animatic, which is how rose specifically screwed them all over without an explanation, but each for different reasons.
WELL THIS ONLY GETS MORE RELEVANT AS TIME GOES BY. Dude this is great!

What a wonderful transition to each character! The ending was so heartbreaking and so perfect in telling how these characters feel. Wonderful job here! I really liked the timing and the angles. It felt very natural how it was going.

Holy shit the whole time I was thinking yeah this is pretty good I guess but then that twist at the end pushed it all from good to great- I mean in terms of story, the art and technical skill was excellent regardless lol!
This amazing, I love it all. I love how you show that there all hurting. And the ending with Steven being questioned by them, it broke me, because his mother only left him as a legacy ( correct me if I'm wrong) I kinda got the feeling if Steven just having kind if this identity disorder ( i think that's what its called) where hes just confused of who he is, like is the Rose? Pink diamond? And the way he looks at the end it kinda tells me that Pearl, Greg, and garnet are expecting him to answer all those questions, and he just can't.

ok I really loved this. the pose where pearl was looking up with her hand over her eyes was such a striking pose I loved it. And the twist where its steven was tight af. But you know what wouldve also been cool is in the end when roses backs into the wall intstead of turning into steven, you couldve had rose hit the wall, this like look of terror on her face and she turns dramatically towards the wall. then from the pov of pearl, greg, and garnet it rotates centered around rose, through the wall and you see rose is now in a rectatngle. She puts her hands over her mouth and then as the soft "i have questions for you" plays over and over, it reveals steven looking at his refelection in the mirror. I thought thatd be neat. But I love how you did it cus it really emphasizes all the pressure steven feels from the others
