    It was nice how you went from showing us ALG to suddenly do a whole sub-video of getting steam working on Arch, nice!

    Got to know about the ALG project when I was in my distro-hopping phase. It was taken down just a week or two before when I decided to install it as my daily driver. Have been running EndeavourOS ever since and it is as close to vanilla arch as possible.

      Thank you for the kind words, I'm still learning how to make good videos, may not be able to keep up with the quality or the upload frequency.

    You can also use ArcoLinuxD installer for a pure Arch installation. :) You can even go with only basic packages, without any desktop environment...

      Yup, I’ve heard of it, and I tried reading their website once, but got confused by their naming. I’m planning to make a video if I can figure out what is D what is B and all the learning phases

      @@MumblingHugo it is briefly explained in START HERE button. It shows the learning path Erik the creator has in mind for people who are learning Arch/Linux. Also if you click download SCROLL down on that page. It has a graphic representation of the different versions as well. Pro tip for anyone: Erik posted over 3000 videos on his channel already explaining installing ,updates, things that go wrong and how to fix them. It is quite remarkable tbh. And lastly check out hist Arch Linux Tweaktool found on the AUR.

    I wanted to use arch but was terrified of deleting the WRONG disk, so I found ALG and used it instead, from there I could play with the system and learned a lot about linux systems in general. It got discontinued because Arch didn't want the project having the "Arch Linux GUI" name, and the creator said it didn't make sense to call it anything else, plus it was a small project and he wants to do other stuff. There was also versions of I3 and I belive AWM too. Shame it died :(

      It's a shame, and I wished I have heard about it earlier, such a easy tool to use.

    ALG is awesome and I've used it for every single bare-metal linux install I've done, but I believe now is the time for the customer-base of ALG to be looking at the arch install python script that ships with the vanilla arch iso

      Agreed, was thinking about comparing the 2 in this video but didn't have the time

    You can sort of make that 'config file' for any distro I believe with a simple bash script that updates the system and downloads your stuff.

    The quality of your videos has jumped a lot. Arch was never beginner friendly, it needs some sort of setup, it does not need to be graphical, just present the user with predefined steps which he has to take in order to bring the system up to it's minimum.

    • @MumblingHugo

      Thank you for watching as always, you're right, it isn't beginner friendly at all. They need to at least know their way around arch wiki after the graphical assistant.

    • @kendarr
      @kendarr Год назад

      It has already, nowdays there is a 'easy' install for arch linux, it comes with the ISO, it's straightforward, still not graphical tho.
