It's true that you need to learn how to manage tiling windows, but what you didn't mention is that it is possible to set a window as floating, change its order, or even create profiles for an app in Hyprland. I have a profile set on virtual desktop 4, in floating mode, with dimensions of 800x800 for my terminal. This tool has been essential for years because I work a lot with terminals. A DE that adapts to my heavy terminal use is something I don't find as efficient in non-tiling DEs.
I find that when you start configuring the tiling windows managers, you fall into a rabbit hole and then you find yourself spending a lot of time for configuration changes.

I gave it a try recently. It was interesting but for me it's only a sandbox for customization. I'm using linux on my both systems laptop and desktop and i prefer to USE those but not configure all the time. Of course if this is your hobby to configure/customize days and days then yeah, that a good thing. People always claim that this will improve your developer workflow but all they show is how fast they move their windows around 100 times. Im a developer and my workflow do not consist only of this XD. Imagine how long u have to work to barely cover that time u spent on configuration with time u "saved" on moving windows. No offense, it is a nice piece of software and i glad that people like it. The best thing is to have a choice.
hyprland was dope...wrote everything from scratch, and it was a pain in the ass to read all the docs of waybar, kitty, hyprland, hyprlock, sddm, and a bunch of other bs, but it was sick in the end, and im happy with it (anyone that wants to do this make sure to backup all your config files with stow and git or something similar so you can save everything)
I think this might have scared some people away. But here is the thing to remember, you can install hyprland along side your preferred DE, kde, gnome, etc... So you can go in and out of hyprland when you want to try something and use your other DE when you still need it.
Glad you mentioned this. I was on the fence. I'm building Linux From Scratch and hadn't decided between a modern window manager or a full desktop environment, like Gnome or XFCE.
Thank you for being honest and being aware of beginners. I am not new to linux but I don't want to spend time getting this setup... I really like how hyprland looks and feels but I don't want to deal with the overheads~ I feel like I already have my hands full at the moment with NixOS and work. I guess I will come back to hyprland some other day~
Thank you for making such high-quality content. It is nice to see this as someone who wants to someday make the full switch to Linux and your videos give a lot of insight on the state of things! Keep up the good work!
I believe @Ja.KooLit deserves more credit for this. First, you have showed a link of HyprV4 3:34 , which is NOT JaKoolit's project but you didnt post JaKoolits projects (Arch and Fedora) anywhere on your video including on the description. but most of the videos including Hyprland configs youve used, there are no links to it. So I really think he deserve more credits for it. We are just lucky cause he try to share to us those scripts, which I think easy to understand, and follow and he does not restrict us from configuring for our own benefits. Sure its not a top notch great looking ricing compared to end-4 and prasanthrangan's and even ML4W's but JakooLit's configs is not complicated compared to those 3 I mentioned
If you want, I think you can convert KDE into tiling window manager like hyprland or sway. I would rather stay in KDE because of its excellent support of XWayland apps on fractional scaling, and helps you to tinker a lot of things on GUI, such as if you unplug your AC adapter, you can tell KDE to use power saver mode, run custom scripts, use certain level of brightness and much more! Even tough GNOME is touch friendly, I use KDE and nowadays KDE touch makes more sense than GNOME.
I don't think that you can properly tile in any Desktop Environment unless it's properly implemented by themselves. Too many variables changing otherwise. It's why many anticipate Cosmic, which has a heavy focus on it.
KDE is so much heavier that it will never be like a tiling manager. KDE is about flash and making thing look good with animations. Not productivity, like keyboard driven WM.
i did that with my kde thanks to "Krohnkite" (a kwin script). I have a hyprland session too that took hours to set up but in the end i prefer my set up on kde: Some things "just works" (ex: swap to dedicated GPU on my laptop when needed) without having to install more stuff and tinkering with it. Of course kde is heavier but if you are on a modern pc, you wont feel really the difference and with one or two plugins you get the same animation/window decoration as Hyprland (no title bar, border with custom color around the actif window, etc...)
The only desktop environment with builtin tiling support is pop os (it's one of the biggest selling point of system76 distro, honestly) Gnome may have some extensions for tiling, but you can't customizaze keybinding, or basically any of the billions of options you have in a tiling wm. Kde is similar (hopefully tiling becomes a goal for the next two year project of kde)
I've been on Hyprland since Nvidia dropped the 555 beta and it has been really solid. Threw all the Nvidia fixes in the wiki at it and even resuming from sleep works with no issues. Zero issues with running games fullscreen. I would recommend that new users stick with the default config and go from there, those over-engineered ones with tons of files just make it more difficult for no tangible gain. Pick a bar, any bar, install it and try the default config. Same for a launcher. I've gravitated towards AGS and fuzzel.
Really? I configured hyprland from scratche around a year ago. But I'm using it less and less because of the graphical glitches I experienced in wayland. If a new driver is as good as you say, I'll be back to hyprland and ditch kde x11.
Sway or hyprland though. The others are either x11 (so basically should not be used, if you like not having an obvious and massive security black hole), or not good enough. And sway needs a script to have a layout manager, so the choise is kinda obvious Vaxry really is the 🐐
They are just so trash by default on ultrawide or super ultrawide 32:9 monitors where you literally NEVER want a maximized window. I do like using Kzones on KDE though so I can use configs to slice my monitor up and then either assign apps to the zones or just let KDE remember the last zone an application ran in. Also giving you a mouse or keyboard option to drop an application into a specific zone. Its a best of both worlds option.
I’d say it doesn’t make sense to use a tiling WM unless you ALREADY have a set of programs you wanna use for a desktop. You just don’t get anything worthwhile otherwise.
I don’t understand one thing about all these tiling managers. Why there is no normal beautiful graphical configuration for any of these? It should make adoption much easier and for those who like more, text config is always there
I think people are often too intimidated by certain distros and environments. My first distro ever was arch with kde, and despite a slight learning curve, I really had no issues. Eventually, I explored hyprland and still use it to this day. So, don't be too afraid to try new things unless you have very little experience with computers.
Watching this channel for the first time. Looks beautiful and people on YT talk a lot about it, and tiling window managers in general. I have never explored any tiler myself yet, and actually I'm just in the progress of migrating from Xfce to Plasma, which are both kind of my favourite desktops now. Actually I have both now. But since I mostly use Arch it sounds definitely attractive that Hyprland has explicit support here. Maybe one day I'll give it a try too. Are there people on this planet who still use things like Openbox or Fluxbox actually?
I love and currently use hyperland but I can't wait till cosmic come out to have the best of both worlds. Just don't want to have to deal with configurations
For me personally hyprland is the wrong environment, I like the styling aspect but that is about it. I can work much better with kde/gnome. (But this of course is personal preference!)
I feel like Hyprland is can be very interesting, but getting it just right would take a very long time. Give the update cycle, it can also break quite often, so it's not really suitable for a production machine yet
@@MichaelNROH Hyprland is not that bad, it got a great wiki you can read top to bottom, and all works, the bar is normal waybar as it is on any things wayland that is not kde/gnome. it cost me around 3 hours to get it just right, but the good thing is it never change, i don't need to do any thing to the config if we got updates, i run with the same config for 12 months now, all my games also just works, i don't need to change any thing, and if you want Hyprland to be floating, you can add 1 line to the config and all windows is floating. so PRO for DEs, i don't need 3 hours of work up front to never to need to change any thing ever again. CON you need to use a lot of time over time, to keep KDE/GNOME to look and works as you want, plugins break, updates change settings etc.
I switched from windows to arch with window managers like BSPWM, Awesome WM etc and have been on Hyprland since they released it. I tried to jump back into a desktop but just can't do it anymore. It just seems far more efficient in every way.
It technically is, but it's not suited for for every workflow. An example, I myself like window animations since they look nice and keep my flow at a steady and consistent pace. Other's find this repellent since there is no instant feedback. Preferences are different, and so is working with a WM
Thanks for the tips. Although I staying to use Wayland more, I keep running back to back X11 because of missing features and functionality (e.g., text expansion). Again, thanks and God bless
Sure, you do need to install a few packages: hyprland, waybar, swaylock, etc... but you only really need to copy yourself a waybar preset. The default hyprland config file is pretty good to start with. With the simpler/readable default config, its also more feasible to bring it up directly instead of a cheatsheet (for keybindings). Edit: Also I'm not sure what you mean about having to use the command line? For editing configs? You can open something like kate if you want to edit text in that for example. Were you using a runner? There's wofi, anyrun and I'm sure others...
i loved hyprland but i had way too many resolution issues in video games. even games that ran natively on linux had issues that made them unplayable. i tried a lot but couldn't fix it unfortunately, though i was using a nvidia card. i ordered an amd card just today. ready to fully make the switch to linux
@@habios ps2 is a classic. i haven't tried the beta drivers but that amd card is on the way now. it's a big upgrade from my current card anyway. thank u for the info though
Yeah, fullscreen or games that at least try to be exclusive behave very weird with the dynamic resizing. Could be fixed with Window Rules so that they always float, but it's still not the best implementation
As a hyprland user, I definitely don’t think it’s ready for everyone yet. Like arch, it is best suited to the kind of user that is happy to set up and fix everything themselves. Gaming/gamescope can be a pain.
Finally !!! You won't get as much experience with Fedora and KDE or gnome it was same for me, i got to learn all the command when i used arch+ hyprland I recommend using any dots like Prasanth rangan or end4 or jakoolit and the after you use for like half a year you should be able to make your own configs
@@codewithvenky after half a year using Prasanth dots then i created my own dots but now I can't use my pc because I have to focus on competitive exam so I'm out of Linux and pc for a year 😔
I love hyprland and I would absolutely use it if it worked better for me. Wayland in general still is a huge problem for me, as I have an NVidia GPU. There were still massive stuttering problems for me in the browser which then were fixed in the 555 driver nvidia-beta update, but that introduced new problems. I also use a large TV via HDMI as my main display which isn't properly recognized and turns off most of time, when I log into hyprland. I got it to work from time to time, but this problems is also not fixed for me yet. Steam also wouldn't launch games properly. I will definitely keep trying to fix it, but i3 with x11 just works once properly set up. I really hope that in the future there will be better support for NVidia with hyprland once the new drivers go into the standard repository. If you have similar problems and have found a fix I would be more than thankful if you could share your solution and try it out :D
Thanks, because of you today I gave hyprland a seconds chance. First time I quickly quit simply because I didn't know how to use it. This time the default config had more shortcuts setup, and after I learned them I seem to enjoy using hyprland. So who knows, maybe I'll stay.
I've always wanted to try hyprland but I would want to install it next to KDE Plasma in SDDM so I can occasionally dip my toes in before fully submerging in window management and I worry that'd break things on KDE or vice versa. I also heard a while back it's not as pleasant of an experience with nvidia cards as it is on AMD cards, but that might have changed since. I just need an opportunity where I can gain confidence using a window manager in general, cause I once tried i3-gaps in a VM and it felt very clunky to me. Also, since I do play video games, it would suck to have to set up a gamescope command for literally every game, I love gamescope, I think it's a linux killer app, but mainly for older games that have resolution issues, not something I'd want to set up for every game.
@@yunoxa5134 PopOS gave me a taste of tiling that I never stopped longing for, so I believe you when you say it's good. I suppose I'll just make a timeshift then install it, and if it breaks anything I'll restore to the previous timeshift.
Many recommend to create second user account and log into that one with another Desktop Environment. Helps to not mess up the same files, but you need to copy some stuff between them (or sync them).
@@MichaelNROH The problem with this is that I'd need de-duplication, and I don't use btrfs due to the fact that I heard it has a lack of case sensitivity which is no good if you mod games. If I make an entirely new home directory, I'd need to redownload _at minimum_ 50GB worth of stuff to get the most "everyday use" impression of hyprland. Also, I've tried to do this exact thing in the past with XFCE, creating a new home directory still give me a broken xfce4-desktop, so I'm reluctant to try that again.
I am running Hyprland on debian 12 and it did not break, though i do not think that it is for everyone, if you are on debian sid and you want to try it out you definitly can and it is pretty fun!
Hyprland needs a gui app for configuring everything on startup. It's so weird that a so modern looking WM still needs you to configure it through a file.
Honestly have configurations in a text file with a good wiki simply allows more configurations then a GUI settings app, and also a file it's the easiest thing to save the configuration for fresh installs. But i know that a GUI settings app makes life easier, if you have a system you just want to use, and don't care too much about it
It reminds me of Rainmeter for windows if you want to make custom ui or widgets, to be more specific in Rainmeter you can edit a config file and all all the modifications, location on the screen the size of the box and lines of text and color...what app you want to run in it..etc.
seriously just imagine if Microsoft just didn't f the world of computers .... if the world worked on linux instead of windows. our desktop would be in like 2065...
interested to try it but it does look like a lot of configuration to get things going like the monitor placement etc. I'll wait until the big wlroots move is done(or it hits 1.0) so it won't break that often.
Tiling WMs are cool but to me personally to much of a hassle to set up and more of a nerdy cool thing to do. I love seeing those in Brodie's, Titus' or other people's setups but all of them lack a simple GUI that allows users to tweak settings in an easy way. It's basically the same as what has been with most desktop Linux aspects for the longest time. Plus I don't want to use either Arch or Fedora, so there's that.
I really need help with ArchCraft. When I try to click ArchCraft Install button, the GUI opening is not showing up correctly. I tried to install in nomodeset and it works perfectly but after installing with it, it only works if I set again it to nomodeset (changing in EFI file). But I want to install normally coz without it I wont be able to adjust brightness and other stuff which works normally. Can anyone really help me?

Hi Michael! I would love to see one of your tutorials on installing Nvidia drivers on Fedora. I have gone through many tutorials, videos and forums but I would love your take on it. Why can't other distros be like Mint and Ubuntu??? 😭
Hey so I’m teaching myself how to code Js and then learn things like this. Can anyone offer free resources or help point me in the right direction please and thank you. I’m doing my own research but asking around can’t hurt.
I've actually tried it about 2 weeks ago but ended up going back to budgie because of certain issues. (The entire OS just crashing without any logs whatsoever) I will try to get back to it soon though.
My notebook has nvidia chip...and my second monitor is not being detected when I use hyprland...on normal x11 manjaro works awesome!...dont know how to fix this :(
The irony that you mentioned wayland is more secure and showed a clip of screen recording is that on hyprland (and other wlroots based compositors) is that any application can record the screen without any user permission or popup, just like on x11.
Hyprland is imo the best tiling wm in terms of ease-of-us (if you don't count pop-shell) and convenience but I will wait until it gets more stable and the new bugs popping up with every new update become less, because that was annoying. Vaxry is doing an amazing job tho and unlike other developers of a certain desktop doesn't disregard every request with "why would you even do it"
People who uses email apps and wants to try out hyprland while keeping KDE or another DE need to know how to configure their password manager app like kwallet or gnome keyring should they break. I had problems where mailspring hates kwallet and when I fixed that, going back to KDE, mailspring fail and other email apps on that just unable to work anymore no matter what. Thats my skill issue tbh but hopefully I can warn the unsuspecting newbies
Oh, I don't know how accurate the 'Debian 12 won't build' comment was. I was pretty successful building Hyprland on Debian 12 multiple times, at least as far as I remember... Though it might have been on Debian Sid too?
I had a chance to try and install hyperland (hypr) on my pc but after around 1h of trying out shortcuts and trying to start my usual workflows I have switched back to i3. As much as hypr looks cool it is slower then i3. I still prefer i3.
Now I'm looking for the best file manager to use with Hyprland (GUI), and I'm thinking between Cinnamon's Nemo, GNOME's Nautilus and KDE's Dolphin. I like GTK and Libadwaita, but I'm not entirely sure about using Nautilus, Nemo seems OK and Thunar seems so poorly done next to those three others...
Nautilus and Dolphin have theming issues unless you tweak them a bit. Nautilus doesn't follow dark mode theming out of the box on hyprland, and dolphin's breeze icon theme looks awful on hyprland imo
In my opinion it depends on what you use it for. Dolphin has much more customization and looks a bit more "traditional' while Nautilus has the much better Network Share integration with gvfs.
@@MichaelNROH Maybe I'll opt for Nautilus. Not because of the network tools exactly, but GNOME applications without a close button seem to adapt to a tiled window manager, their applications are prepared for a small vertical display… And I was already looking for GNOME anyway, if I didn't choose to use Arch with Hyprland I was already looking to install Arch with GNOME. (GNOME with the Forge plugin isn't looking bad for me, now...)
@@minion3806 This is what I was looking for: the question of how they would be integrated into Hyprland. KDE had already tried, they look "off" without some configuration. Maybe the dark mode setting in Nautilus is easy to get around (I suspect it's editing some GTK configuration file, but I'll do more research).
You really don't need to customize a tiling window manager if you dont want to. That is after you have customized your tiling window manager for 2 years straight.
Nah a month is already enough to be happy about the configuration. Honestly it was harder for me to customize waybar to my likings, hyprland was pretty fast to configurate

This. I see nothing here that makes me want to use it.
Glad you mentioned this. I was on the fence. I'm building Linux From Scratch and hadn't decided between a modern window manager or a full desktop environment, like Gnome or XFCE.
I understood absolutely nothing 😂, but I loved the background at 4:48, if I may ask, could you share the source please .. 🙏🏽
Sure its not a top notch great looking ricing compared to end-4 and prasanthrangan's and even ML4W's but JakooLit's configs is not complicated compared to those 3 I mentioned
thanks ❤
@@Ja.KooLit much love for the configs
@@DestaleClyde isn't Krohnkite dead? last time i checked we had to use polonium...
The only desktop environment with builtin tiling support is pop os (it's one of the biggest selling point of system76 distro, honestly)
Gnome may have some extensions for tiling, but you can't customizaze keybinding, or basically any of the billions of options you have in a tiling wm. Kde is similar (hopefully tiling becomes a goal for the next two year project of kde)
I was opening other tab for working and learning jazz, your video sound better with it.
Tiling Windows Managers are the way.
Evey day all day. Even one i dont like. Hyprland rocks now that its been worked on for a wile.
even apple is now started to think about tiling..
Sway or hyprland though. The others are either x11 (so basically should not be used, if you like not having an obvious and massive security black hole), or not good enough.
And sway needs a script to have a layout manager, so the choise is kinda obvious
Vaxry really is the 🐐
They are just so trash by default on ultrawide or super ultrawide 32:9 monitors where you literally NEVER want a maximized window.
I do like using Kzones on KDE though so I can use configs to slice my monitor up and then either assign apps to the zones or just let KDE remember the last zone an application ran in. Also giving you a mouse or keyboard option to drop an application into a specific zone. Its a best of both worlds option.
@@drubizzy Why are ultrawides bad for tiling window manager?
I’d say it doesn’t make sense to use a tiling WM unless you ALREADY have a set of programs you wanna use for a desktop. You just don’t get anything worthwhile otherwise.
You found an amazing template for your config!
Neat. I think I'll stay with KDE. Mine is all set and looks / runs great.
That is an absolute banger of a background image. Where can i find it? :D @1:48
Just what I was looking for
I don’t understand one thing about all these tiling managers.
@@MichaelNROH i3 is simple
@Arthur-jg4ji Don't use i3. Use Sway because it's bascially i3 but a tiling Wayland compositor instead of an XOrg tiling window manager.
@@cameronbosch1213 but i have nvidia and the last time i had wayland some app didn't work well
Maybe credit the developer whom’s install script you used? Even in the description? Seems like the right thing to do.
Waybar is the top bar. Waybar. You can add all those separate config files into the main hypr config file if you prefer.
Have you tried the NVIDIA beta drivers 555? Only game I've had resolution issues has been PlanetSide2. Where the mouse doesn't click where it should.
Could never get use to tiling. Too many key binds to remember lol. Guess I am not nerdy enough.
that hint button 👀
You have that greatscott vibe in your voice lmao
Great Vid man
I have a really extensive config on my git to help new comers, still working on stuff though, but it already has really good documentation
Great to hear
As a hyprland user, I definitely don’t think it’s ready for everyone yet. Like arch, it is best suited to the kind of user that is happy to set up and fix everything themselves. Gaming/gamescope can be a pain.
Whats best for windows. Newbie but interested in the dynamic features. Thanks
Finally !!!
You won't get as much experience with Fedora and KDE or gnome it was same for me, i got to learn all the command when i used arch+ hyprland
I recommend using any dots like Prasanth rangan or end4 or jakoolit and the after you use for like half a year you should be able to make your own configs
I'm using Prasanth files So convenient and simple
@@codewithvenky after half a year using Prasanth dots then i created my own dots but now I can't use my pc because I have to focus on competitive exam so I'm out of Linux and pc for a year 😔
I love hyprland and I would absolutely use it if it worked better for me.
Wayland in general still is a huge problem for me, as I have an NVidia GPU.
There were still massive stuttering problems for me in the browser which then were fixed in the 555 driver nvidia-beta update,
but that introduced new problems.
We really love JaKooLit's hyprland configuration, don't we? 😂❤
thanks bro. But probably thats because I was the only one who's brave and crazy enough to have a one dots for alot of distros including fedora 😂
What do you use to montage video? And what do you use to edit photos? I wanna know what can I use on Fedora instead of Photoshop and Premiere Pro)
how did you get the multiplication sign ??
Oh no... He... He actually went down the rabbit hole...
JaKooLit has an amazing script thats functional
OH NO! He's going full Brodie!
Thank you for covering this. Unfortunately, it's not my cup of tea. I really like a good GUI to configure all the things.
There is a reason on why so many experiences exist. Everyone has their preferences and that's good
Honestly have configurations in a text file with a good wiki simply allows more configurations then a GUI settings app, and also a file it's the easiest thing to save the configuration for fresh installs.
But i know that a GUI settings app makes life easier, if you have a system you just want to use, and don't care too much about it
It reminds me of Rainmeter for windows if you want to make custom ui or widgets, to be more specific in Rainmeter you can edit a config file and all all the modifications, location on the screen the size of the box and lines of text and color...what app you want to run in it..etc.
seriously just imagine if Microsoft just didn't f the world of computers .... if the world worked on linux instead of windows. our desktop would be in like 2065...
great overview. Looks beautiful but I don't see what couldn't have been done with KDE, theming, and some custom applets 🤔
I tried hyprland and i really like it. It is the better windows manager imo.
interested to try it but it does look like a lot of configuration to get things going like the monitor placement etc.
I wish these came configured already. I hate to configure things. I like how they look at the end, but don't want to do it myself.
The scripts come pre-configured, but some stuff like monitor or keyboard adjustments need to be handled by the user.
You should try a scrolling window manager like Niri or the Hyprscroller plugin for Hyprland (although it's out of date right now)
will you stay with Hyperland or go to a DE again?
Almost a full BTW bro
I really need help with ArchCraft. When I try to click ArchCraft Install button, the GUI opening is not showing up correctly. I tried to install in nomodeset and it works perfectly but after installing with it, it only works if I set again it to nomodeset (changing in EFI file). But I want to install normally coz without it I wont be able to adjust brightness and other stuff which works normally. Can anyone really help me?
lets goo as a long time user WW tiling window managers are made for productivity wen it was covid and i was sharing my screen for shool my teacher was like thats fast i dint see your mouse cuz i use the keyboard
btw if your using rofi in hurprland use rofi for wayland its in the aur if you are using arch or an arch based distro
Hyprland was great as the first distro... the fifth time I installed it.
Hi Michael!
I would love to see one of your tutorials on installing Nvidia drivers on Fedora. I have gone through many tutorials, videos and forums but I would love your take on it. Why can't other distros be like Mint and Ubuntu??? 😭
Yall i literally just intalled hyprland and i think its meant to be
My problem with Hyprland is weirdly
Its just buggy with hybrid laptop. xwayland just refuse to open the app in integrated graphic
Why did you use sudo to edit a config file in your home directory?
Hey so I’m teaching myself how to code Js and then learn things like this. Can anyone offer free resources or help point me in the right direction please and thank you. I’m doing my own research but asking around can’t hurt.
How about hyprland for gaming? Does it affect it?
I wonder if anyone has tried making an Arch container to run Hyprland or other WM in.
Containers are not very suited to running a complete Desktop, unless you don't run anything else on the host which is graphical.
is it also applicable on ubantu 22.4 if not then is there any method
On old pc is it still better to use xorg than wayland? Last time I tried I got awful input lag and washed out colors compared to xorg
I'm not a flying dutch guy, but KDE Plasma was a simpler concept to understand. Namastè.
I've actually tried it about 2 weeks ago but ended up going back to budgie because of certain issues. (The entire OS just crashing without any logs whatsoever) I will try to get back to it soon though.
hi dude, great video!
i'm new to hyprland, could you share what waybar and app launcher you use, they look awesome!
I linked the scripts in the description
My notebook has nvidia chip...and my second monitor is not being detected when I use hyprland...on normal x11 manjaro works awesome!...dont know how to fix this :(
The irony that you mentioned wayland is more secure and showed a clip of screen recording is that on hyprland (and other wlroots based compositors) is that any application can record the screen without any user permission or popup, just like on x11.
When I used Hyprland it had a popup to request permission to record the screen.
I was fairly sure I had to use a desktop portal to do that, but okay???
Hyprland is imo the best tiling wm in terms of ease-of-us (if you don't count pop-shell) and convenience but I will wait until it gets more stable and the new bugs popping up with every new update become less, because that was annoying. Vaxry is doing an amazing job tho and unlike other developers of a certain desktop doesn't disregard every request with "why would you even do it"
next i3, awesome and dwm
Hyprland doesn't build at all on stable. 12 is not SID, neither Testing.
I had a chance to try and install hyperland (hypr) on my pc but after around 1h of trying out shortcuts and trying to start my usual workflows I have switched back to i3. As much as hypr looks cool it is slower then i3. I still prefer i3.
Love the info you share, but the unnaturally timed voice tone changes make it hard to focus. I'm sure you don't speak that way normally.
If only wayland could properly import gtk and qt module for my fcitx, i would be switching to wayland long time ago...
Thunar's solid in my experience, not many dependencies and it has a daemon mode for auto-mounting USB drives.
How to use dot files with hyprland ?
If we compare Open Suse (Leap) vs Fedora which is better in latest update and security ?
I'm using hyprland on Fedora, and it currently has version 0.41.1, which is upstream. So it's updated in the official Fedora repo.
@@no_name4796if you already know what you want (like if you are migrating from a wm to another new wm), its much easier.
I don't like the idea of not nowing the size of a program. I normally resize them to the size I want them to be and alternate them with alt tab. This hyperland stuff is tedious and gimmicky
It's not for beginners, but how can anyone stop being a beginner if they don't try? Just install and learn how to use this.
Hyprland with the new 555 nvidia drivers will be awesome!
It is, try to install it now or wait till the official 560 stable version.
