- I recently watched "Ripley" on Netflix and was tremendously inspired by the use of black and white imagery to drive home the core themes of the show.

I was in awe of the cinematography throughout this show! It had every type of scene from film noir stlye to soft bnw scenes.
On total opposite spectrum, there's an indie movie called 'Columbus' which i reckon has some beautiful cinematography. I loved the way they had framed their architectural shots.
The cinematography of the show is so good that it actually distracted me from the plot sometimes. Wonderful work.
Hahah that’s the problem with being into photography. Always appreciating the fantastic camera work instead of paying attention to the plot 😂
Thank you for this. Been binging your videos going back a couple years over this last week, love your work from the photography to the videography. Thanks for being a inspiration.
Thank you!!
This is fantastic! I very recently watched this entire series with a friend, and we were blown away. You do a great job offering ideas about whey it just was so good!
Thanks, Bob!
Got to catch this show! Wong kar Wai movies are also a great inspiration for photographers
Noted. I’ll take a look!
Unexpected video but I absolutely support this.
Ripley is a masterclass in cinematography. As purposeful and methodical as its storytelling.
A great case study for sure!
You should check out the 2019 film "The Lighthouse".
Not sure how I haven’t watched it yet. I’ve heard a lot of good things.
Ripley was incredible cinematography. The pace and the imagery was awesome.
It really was.
Recognizing and promoting black and white … my man!
Should check out The Lighthouse. Especially since you used to shoot square format on the Bronica
I've found B&W a great way to bring forward texture, the subtle differences in "Greyness" that colour can "hide" and directional lighting.
Well put!
I’m going to watch this show tonight. Thanks for the advice.
Enjoy!
Great perspective on B&W, thanks and Slantie 🍺 while you’re in Dublin!
Thank you! Sláinte!!
The shots in RIPLEY are insane
Indeed they are
Alright I'll bite... I avoid black and white because it just doesn't excite me, I'm looking forward to seeing whether this show inspires me like it did for you! Also never too early for a Guiness. I was surprised you had something else next to you tbh.
Same! I just shot a black and white video yesterday in homage to Ripley!
Heck yeah! Love it
hup the dubs!
I will watch
Have you watched the black n white version of Logan?
I haven’t!
I find the show very distracting, random camera angles, super sharp and monotonous. watch "Roma" for a similar bw setup.
Alright. You completely hyped up this movie for me. It's now on my must watch list. If you enjoy black and white movies, you might also like ruclips.net/video/Yx_ervF7h7w/видео.htmlsi=rYrtoIT07xsGj5BP. It's a bit slow but a great film nonetheless.
