I am with you. This game is a blast. I'm particularly inspired by two aspects. 1. the art design. It hits the spot and the umbral is a surprise sensation in this regard. 2. The formula innovations. Ammo as a renewable, scaling resource. Nice! Blocking damage bleeds through as temp health loss that which is restored when you attack (encouraging tactical balance of defense and aggression). Great! Death puts you in a high intensity undead state. Cool! That same location grants a high risk high reward playstyle. Fun! Lots of little things throughout really speak to the thought they put into this design. The hiding and ambushing enemies (others label gank squads) creates a different relationship with skilled play than your typical From Souls title. A bit less focus on twitch timing and attack queue reading. A bit more on environmental awareness, patience, and surviving dynamic "Oh shit" traps. Souls-like is a genre now, like looter shooter is a genre and Rogue-like is a genre. The devs of LoTF are not trying to capture the entire essence of a From game (Hell, Fromsoft is not even trying to capture the entire essence of a From game). They are taking risks to improve the formula, move the genre a new direction, and adapt it to their own toolsets. I encourage souls gamers to step back and let the game teach you what it wants to be - as we all had to do with DS1, for example, instead of judging it for its one-to-one-ness with our current preferred souls title.
I agree with you, specially in the "gank fights" department. I had issues w Dark Sousl 2 when I played it but never with enemy placement, because in DS1 I was never very good at reading enemy attacks and dodging, so the way I beat enemies was mostly by fighting on uneven grounds that favored me. That way, I never got "ganked" because I was prepared to run away and lure enemies to a position that was advantageous to me. I thought that was its own kind of fun. Made me feel smart. Very reminiscent of Zelda BOTW and TOTK that expects you to outsmart enemies instead of 1v1 them. I really wanna play LOTF soon
@@Shireke01 Damn. Well, on the bright side, the game will only improve in the meantime and you have an impetus to grind IRL ;) Don't you dare go hollow... [LoTF needs a sign off worthy catch phrase]
Thank you for this. I'm so tired of seeing everyone say "not exactly like fromsoft = bad". I want innovation and new ideas in the genre. I want more variety and quality in the genre and LOP and LOTF are delivering in my opinion. Obviously Fromsoft does it best, but that doesn't mean everyone else does it bad. They just do it differently. They complain if it's too similar to From, and say it's bad if it's too different. I think people should approach these games with an open mind and meet the game half way. Like we would do with any other new release in any other genre. Obviously comparisons are going to be inevitable, but the constant nit picking and negativity whenever a new souls like comes out gets a bit old. I would really love to see new souls likes keep the core formula, and innovate in every other area and give us some nice variety. Fromsoft laid an amazing groundwork and devs are slowly starting to use it more like a starting point than a step by step guide. Hopefully black myth is great and it only gets better from there. Here's to wishful thinking.

@@XmrcaptainbobX I won't deny the fact that this game is being afflicted by several structural issues, but if you play it on performance mode and turn off the motion blur, the overall experience it changes significantly. Never forget that the devs, are not as skilled as pillars like fromsoftware are, nor have got as same budget to make a game of a league such as Dark Souls or Elden Ring though, but at least... they are trying to fix a past mistake with their previous game, and that is definitely enough to give them trust and respect imho.❤
I genuinely feel bad for xbox players or people who still have issues on pc. Cause I've been having a blast on ps5 with relatively good performance(except for the pieta arena for some reason), and I already play souls games aggressively so I didn't have the learning curve a lot of others complain about. For me it's about an 8.5-9.0 just because of how much fun I've been having, and how many cool ideas they've implemented. More straight caster scaling weapons, ammo system, dual realm mechanic, and the blasphemous/lovecraft aesthetic. I haven't touched multiplayer so I can't comment on that.
Yeah, the performance issues are a real bummer. This was during an earlier patch, but I also had some issues in the Pieta arena, and the cutscene at the end had a bizarre looking liquid texture. Despite all that, man I'm having fun poking around. It was hard to put it down to make this video.
I think it just depends on your pc rather than the game. Im on a 4090, 13900k and 6400mhz CL32 ram. I have had almost zero performance issues. Only time i had one was with a friend in calthrak because of all the flame particles, it was only for 1 second in a specific corner too. Subsequent passes of the corner didnt lag afterwards. Otherwise the performance has been really smooth and the games been really pretty. I get 90-120 fps depending where im at and at 4k resolution. So i think the game itself doesnt have performance issues. Unless the 4090 and 4080 (what my friend plays on) are coincidentally better optimized for this game than other cards.
THANK YOU! Finally! Was beginning 2 think something was wrong with me. 2much hatoraide thrown at LOTF. Doing areas twice, once in Axiom & once in Umbral, was a + for me. More game play. Maybe hate cuz it makes speedrun problematic? I think it's mostly DS3 with flavors Bloodborne, Demons Souls, & ER sprinkled througout. I would also give it an 8 to 8.5. Spot on with having to measure a thoughtful play-style. That's why people hate it. U can't DS3 it. It's souls like but has own's it's own approach to progression. Got u a follow my friend.
Love the game on my PS5. The best successor of the true Dark Souls family: DS1 and DS3 + LOTF forever! Elden Ring is good, but very different from the top 3 above.
Loving this game. Don’t get me wrong it has some glaring issues, mostly multiplayer performance as well as the multiplayer design choices in my opinion, but it’s still very very fun and just an awesome souls like. Id give it a solid 7/10
Ive heard some people say the game is currently a 7-7.5/10 but with some patches and fixes down the line could be a 8.5-9/10. Would you agree with this?
@@georgewalters3343No they can't fix the jank combat with patches as it is already set the way it is. Sure they can tune things, but that won't fix the bad combat.
Anyone know where I can get a radiant catalyst so I can cast spells for dark crusader? I’ve checked all vendors multiple times, found orian preacher catalyst but no radiant catalyst.
Tbh most of the issues that I’ve had were in coop mainly, and it never really brought down the experience for me all. In fact, it was pretty funny. Like this one time, I was playing with one of my friends, and we were in this area that was for some reason dropping my frame rate to probably 10-15 fps. While combat was a little bit annoying, it was funny because it was A. on and off and B. I was yelling “FRAMES!” every time it’d happen. After that whole sequence my game ended up crashing, and my friend and I just busted out laughing. Long story short, I’m giving this game a 8.5-9/10, kinda buggy but it really sucked me in to the point where I lose track of time, though my main gripe is that there is no brakes on this holy fuck train. You are constantly fighting enemies, and it can get overwhelming at times.
Based on what I’ve seen so far, it seems like a Souls Like where ranged (magic and archery) is viable, if not probably more satisfying than the melee combat. Might be the first Souls Like where I do a ranged build right off the bat.
Great video. I have watched a few reviews and they all either think it’s the best game ever or absolutely hate it because they don’t adjust settings. The one thing people have to understand is that a game on pc is so hard to release because there are sooooo many different systems and gpus. People are rocking gpus from 1999 and mad af because they can’t run a 2023 game on ultra diss sharpening 99. The game devs are atleast trying to patch the game as much as possible, don’t forget to download nivida update if you have there gpu.
I blame the devs for being incompetent idiots that can't even make a game in 2023 look decent on current gen consoles, now i know why they had so many problems with the development.
no the performance issues is the devs fault cant simply overlook that, optimization is something they messed up in you can't blame that on people, not everyone is super rich to buy super high end gear and shouldn't've be left out of a game because of it
Well said. I've been pretty cautious with this one because in all the videos i've seen from it, It didn't feel polished in gameplay and sound design. I know devs have been working a lot with streamers and press to patch the game many times. Played it on release day and, although the performance was atrocious, It somehow didn't feel that bad. Even better, it felt real good to play. I'm now 15h into the game and going for my third beacon and I'm loving it. This year we've played through Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen, and man, I can't thank these devs enough for bringing something new to the Souls formula, as going through the open world of Elden Ring for a second time felt like a chore. I know some of my friends won't touch this game because this isn't Fromsoft and for some people it's medium at best, but they're passing by a great game. It just needs a few more performances patchs and balancing (Bosses feel too easy actually), but it's a solid 8.5 to 9 to me. Great video!
I like the game, am having fun, it looks amazing on PC cranked up, the devs are great, they seem to be on top of things, huge props for no Denuvo or other DRM. It's great. My biggest issue with it now that Im about 7 or so hours in is the many surprise enemies and the amount of enemies in general can make the game rather frustrating. I'm no souls pro by any means, played a bit of DS/ The Surge, WoLong, Elden Ring, Lies of P but those game felt challenging and yet fair. I'm at the part with the bucket head enemies and it's frustrating, it also doesn't help I'm still using the starting weapons because everything I find I cannot use. It's like a hump I want to get over and enjoy the game more.
Personally i like this game alot. I played the original way back in the day. Also elden ring was a hell of alot in worse shape then this game is when it launched not including that it took fromsoft and bandai fooooorrrrrreverrrrrrrrr to fix stuff. We are on update 1.10 in that game and it is now balanced out for the most part. Plus this game is vastlymore challenging and that is cool. Having to fight off 6 enemies at once is awesome and i think to many people are whiny as hell.
Harder than eldeb ring? I aprecciate ur perception. In my opinion, this game if u analyze the enemy placement its a cakewalk. Also bosses are the most easier in all soulslike. But i greatly enjoy it
Lol you think fighting 6 enemies is fun? 😂😂 sureee... try fight 6 enemies with a spear. You need a weapon with wide slash. I can tell you're not that far into the game. Wait till you get to a platform with 9 of them, or in a mine with 7 enemies in dark area. 😂
I’m having a blast with the game. I’m really not having many technical issues at all. Some frame dips here and there but I’m pretty much steadily running 80-90 fps @ 1440p. My issue with the game is the combat, it’s not bad but it just has this jank to it, my character just feels like he does whatever he wants and the lock on is awful. The exploration is really cool though. 2 realms thing is great. Honestly imo lies of p is way better than this for me so far. The combat is just vastly more polished and responsive.
What weapons do you use? I haven’t really tried all the movesets because the weapon I started with is super good (I have deluxe and started with dark crusader, of which has Issac’s longsword)
@@arcturus960 I started off as Orian preacher and been rocking the hammer it starts with for the first few hours then I moved to dual welding when I found another hammer and have kept that going since.
I'm not a souls type person, but I am really enjoying this game its got some very awesome concepts, cool visuals and story. And being coop makes it 10x better and can make enjoyable moments but couple downsides to the game is that sometimes it's hard to buddy up on coop even with friends, and also the lag/fps sometimes makes the game totally unplayable. But overall I still rate the game highly and definitely recommend 👌
I purchased the deluxe edition on Steam to get the dark crusader class and I still chose another build 😄. I’m an Orian Preacher and I’m not switching classes anytime soon! Hopefully console versions are running better because it’s been lovely on PC 😎
yeah same here, i started playing this game, with not much expectations, everyone saying the combat was clunky and game was good but not as close from-software games, but i think this game is amazing, im so addicted to exploring and finding that new op weapon for my build haha, every time i go to umbral, i feel my life is on the line hahaha this game is providing me the same fun i had on elden ring, so fucking good, and visually looks amazing too
I enjoyed it alot, had some minor bugs and fps drops but otherwise good performance, there were some issues however - some of the areas are extremely confusing to navigate, bramis castle is the biggest offender in my opinion, i spent 4 hours looking for a way forward before having to find a streamer playing the game to find out that there was a lever halfway across the zone that i had missed to progress - pvp is dog, i wont elaborate further because devs said they cant fix it so its pointless to complain about it - +10 upgrades severely limited.... i thought we had finally gotten across that no one wants limited weapon upgrades in souls likes but i guess not -/+ visuals amazing, but fidelity falls apart with enemies around -/+ combat feels good once you get used to it but it takes time to get the feel for but that's really all for me, i genuinely enjoyed this soulslike the most of all soulslikes released so far. its a soild 7.8/10 but i expect it to be in the 8.5-8.8 range if you wait for the patches before buying
Not few of them are actually getting paid by competitors to defame the product. Imagine if someone offers you 200, 300 or 1000 euros in order to make a reel or a video to defame a game. Easiest money ever made.
Wish we didn't have to fight monsters in axion world when in umbral world. It just make sense to me since the umbral enemies don't fight us during axion world.
Interesting to hear a positive perspective as the game is getting ripped on pretty much everywhere. I have not been able to sit down and really give it a good fair try, though in my short play time I did find the combat felt a bit numb and 'floaty' as others have mentioned. But the game looks great and has a nice ominous ambience which I love and I am lucky enough to have a beefy PC to run it well. Looking forward to sitting down and giving it a good try
One aspect of the game that is completely ruining it for me is the enemy spam, every room there are at least 5 mobs, each taking 3-5 hits and its even worse in umbral, which would be fair if it was your decision to enter umbral, but the game forces you into it every second step while not even trying to balance the amount of enemies to it

Overall its pretty ok but i dont feel right for the camera its very sensitive on moving On pc theres some technical issue My first valkyrie boss was getting very bad frametime issue and some stutter
I only have two gripes with the game right now. + The movements are too slippery, so traversing near edges can be frustrating. This also carries to combat when sometimes you your character moves to an unfavourable position due to the movement assist. This is especially noticeable whenever I strafe around enemies + There are lots of branching path (which is good), but they all look too samey, which got me lost... too much more than I want to admit
Finally someone said it. The movement can be really floaty at times many times I've been fighting on a ledge and went over the side or pushed an enemy off a ledge and went with them because my attacks thrust me forward too far. And it makes areas like pilgrims perch just miserable to go through.
To tell you the truth.. I'm really disappointed with lord of the fallen, everybody has been making it out to be the greatest soulslike out there and I can't play it for more than 20 minutes without wanting to quit. I've had it since the day it came out and I'm still in pilgrims perch because I'm just not having a good time.. I'm still early in the game but so far I'd say lies of p>>>>> lords of the fallen... the biggest issues is the fact that for some reason the game is so fucking dark on my ps5, I turned on hdr and it's so dark.. and the fact that every area you walk into, there's a couple tough enemies sprinting at you and 3 or 4 ranged enemies shooting you with something. It's like they looked at dark souls 2 and said, yeah let's do that
It could just come down to taste. It did take me some time to get into the flow with the game (about where you are), but I was already enjoying the exploration quite a bit. I have yet to play Lies of P, but I've played the demo and felt like LotF clicked better for me in the first few hours than my equivalent time in the demo.
I completely agree with your points, I'm having a great time with the game and there's nothing that would indicate a lower than average score. I will say that there are things within the game design that are sub par like the seedling mechanic or the persecution timer in Umbral, as well as poor voice acting in some parts, poorly rendered cinematics, and map designs that are frustrating without a true map mechanic. But all these things don't take away from the fun of the game. My guess is that a lot of these bad reviews come from people comparing this game to dark souls gameplay instead of judging it on its own merit.
LOTF is fresh air on PS5 runs smoothly, no issues at the moment... The combat is smoothly and the two worlds look amazing. Is a slow burner for me specifically since I haven't play a souls gane in a while😁😁😁😁😁
"2023 is so packed you'll have fun with something." So true, what an incredible year it's been for gaming. Appreciate the honest appraisal of the game, especially after seeing some of the dishonest impressions from certain big streamers who deliberately ignore features & mechanics and then declare the game sucks to a seal-clapping audience.
Yeah it's sick. Game spot idiot game journos gave it a 5/10. One point above Redfall and the guy who reviewed it explicitly states all the fundamental things of Soulsborne for why he hated it! (intricate looping level design, difficulty, etc) it's disgusting. They literally gave it to a guy who hates souls games to review it and the game somehow attracted brand new players to the series and can't pick up on the subtle ways it improves on the formula and instead just cry about it being hard + other crybaby whining. Good devs need to be awarded and this game is getting the hate LoP should've gotten for it's mechanics issues. I'd rather have a sequel to this than that any day. These devs actually understand Soulsborne and didn't just haphazardly throw old Fromsoft mechanics into a soup and say "that's good!"
Been playing over 35 hours since launch and haven't had a single crash, just butter smooth fps and gamplay. No bugs either, and hearing so many struggles and I'm not, is just odd. I how ever run the game on a 4090 card, so if theres performance issues I probably wont notice, I'm not sure but... so far the game is thrilling and I love it alot :)
Same here! Literally no bugs or frame drops on my 4080 since launch....pretty sure everyone has been crying about end user issues and blaming the actually very competent devs :) Sounds like we both know how to maintain our rigs! Apparently that's rare now! :D

@@ioverslept.I think theres more than just brute force gpu happening. Im playing on a 4090 as well, and ive had 0 performance issues. Game runs at 90-120 fps with dlss balanced, and no frame gen (seems like they removed frame gen for now while they tweak the game with updates). Dlss quality puts it at high 80s-low 100s. Ive heard people say that even with good gpu's that arent old like the 30 series and 6000 series theyre having performance issues. That doesnt make sense if they just enabled dlss or fsr. If there truly is still performance issues, its either that specifically the 4080 and 4090 are absolutely crushing it on performance for this game by brute force, or theyre for some reason better optimized. If its not gpu related, then the game itself has an issue. Which again it shouldnt since its running perfectly fine on both 4080 and 4090s.
People said there's no vestiges in NG+ u only have a on vestige seed and u have to backtrack to earlier areas if u want to progress on quest 😢 so that's a disappointing for someone who want to continue with 1 character 💀
I always explore before i drop a seed. Which usually works out but did RUIN a boss fight for me. Since that boss you only get a few attempts to fight because he relocates when u die. SO you essentially have 2 attempts at killing him before hes gone for good.
playing coop and im mad that i have to basically play the game all the way through twice since i need to upgrade the health item and the lamp and its very un forgiving since there considered unique items meaning only one person gets it means my hrs are way higher than my friends god forbid we have a third whatever though good game imo
Enjoying the game. My issue is why can I not get loot as a guest doing a playthrough with a friend? We have to do two playthroughs at the same time otherwise I fall behind on spells loot unlocks etc. wtf why? Why didn’t they make it so both players can progress both players can loot so stupid….
This game is a real challenge to run solo but what a rush. And I thought the lamp was just a cool gimmick but the umbral realm is part of the minute to minute gameplay the whole way through
NEED HELP! 1. How are people getting that glowing sword that looks like a light saber? 2. I paid $80 for a pre-order and don't know how to access any of the bonus stuff. Where is my bonus armor set? 3. What are all the school report card grades in the stats? C- etc. What does that even mean?
1) Lightsaber is pietas swort. Got by killing her and then purchasing from the umbral NPC in the main hub. 2) no bonus armour set unless you got special edition in which you can play as dark crusader. You get tints with pre order? Can tint in the menu 3) school report card grades are the scaling of a weapon. So a weapon with B strength scaling will give you better boost the higher strength you have as opposed to D rating. Hope this helps.
Yeah the low scores really baffle me. I don’t enjoy many games, but this one’s novel and a good souls like. I love the desperation and risk associated with the umbral realm.
Elden Ring still sucks on PS5 after 2 years. Struggles to maintain 60fps on performance mode (almost never, mostly around 40-50) and has outrageously aggressive pop-in everywhere you go, with much lower graphical fidelity than LOTF. The fact that people have to play the PS4 version of ER on PS5 is a joke. Why is it a 96 on metacritic if it's such a huge issue for you people? From Soft games have never been well optimised. The PC port of DS1 was an ATROCIOUS joke, and lets not even talk about PS3 with locked 30 fps that was never even maintained and dropped to like 4 FPS in certain areas. What about Bloodborne? Ye lets not talk about that 15 fps slideshow game either. Yet all these games get a pass but LOTF does not? Hm. LOTF legit runs better than most of the FromSoft games ever did. FromSoft SUCKS at optimisation and tech side of things in general.@@LordOfChaos.x
This game was designed for streamers. That “Time Clock” feeling is the worst. I liked clearing the enemies in forbidden woods so I could figure out the path of progression. The Fen is a nightmare because I can never clear the enemies because of umbral. I’m stuck and I don’t feel like figuring it out.
Like the game so far, but it’s is almost unplayable on Xbox Series X. The stutter is so bad you will literally get hit by 3 attacks and never even see the animation. Hope they fix it soon. Don’t mind the 2 worlds mechanic but it does get annoying having to suck everything off all the time with the lantern.
Yes agreed. Despite some performance issues im having a great time with this game. Jumped right into this after beating Lies of P which is a fantastic game no doubt but can be exhausting lol i really like this game.
@@sikevillain If they could just get the frame drop fixed, it would be so much better. I'm now to a point to where I can level my weapons up and it's gotten a lot more fun. Just beat the dude on the horse last night. Mowed him down pretty quickly.
@@easye9-21 nice & agreed. I'm glad your enjoying the game a lot more. That boss was pretty cool, beat him on the 2nd try. They definitely need to patch it up for a smoother experience for everyone. I'm running a blood paladin build similar to Blasphemous & using a grand sword that's wrapped up in barb wire with pietas sword in the offhand. It's a lot of fun wrecking these annoying enemies lol
I've been loving the game so far, I only had some issues day 1. I'm on XSX. Performance has been fine since the patch. I also don't mind performance issues that much.
The level design being so impressive was a surprise. FROM's interwoven areas are usually so far ahead of everyone else I don't even project another developer to even get into that ballpark, but I have to say LOTF more than holds their own, especially considering they've got the dual world mechanic on top of already excellent design.
excellent video man, i couldnt agree more. this game is genuinely shaping up to be my goty. im only 20 hours in so that could potentially change, but so far, the level design has rivaled ds1 in terms of its interconnected design and thoughful world. when i got down to the bridge before calrath, only to look up to my left and see pilgrims perch wayyy off in the distance up by skyrest, genuine ds1 level moment for me. and the umbral mechanic, i wont lie, i too thought it was gonna be an annoying gimmick, turns out it is nothing short of GENIUS. safe to say i can addicted in a way i havent been since the dark souls and bloodborne days. this game truly feels like a love letter to dark souls and fromsoftware veterans.
The game is pretty to look at. But that's it. It's released unfinished, even very basic polish like removal of the loading bar when resting at a vestige, or the removal or repeating boss cutscenes after the first one, or the EULA that for awhile, kept appearing everytime you opened the game. Then there's the massive density of enemies that encourage --ATLEAST-- half the playerbase to just run past through because of how unworthwhile the rewards of killing them vs the risk is. Enemies, even common ones, hit you for 1/3 - 1/2 of your HP, and don't let me get to the Elites. Ranged attacks that move much more clumsily than you and can't even stand up straight can lock you from unrendered distances, and ambushes in almost every step of the way. Heck, even after the hub, you're greeted with 3 f**king ambushes literally less than 5 steps from each other. And then there's so much platforming when controls are so archaic, but then they made every god damn attack propel you forward, discouraging you further from defending yourself and just running past enemies. Other polished games of this genre use ambushes and mobbing sparingly, or if they are a lot, is between very close checkpoints. And if a game is inherently riddled with a TON of mobbing and ambushes, the player damage received is far, FAR less, and player damage scales well as well. Here, clumsy enemies can hit you harder than you, despite you being more versed in combat than the common foot solider. Hell, you're killing BOSSES, so there's absolutely ZERO reason for a clumsy, hunchback old man to hit you for half of your HP and yours only for 1/3 of theirs. The game is poorly balanced, EVEN for PvP and coop. The developers took everything bad in every souls genre, and probably thinks DS2 was difficulty in a fair way. They are the worst kind of masochists, and other masochists of the same vein praising this BS is just the worst kind of masochist there is, and cope by saying "it makes us pros". No, you're just a human with a twisted pathology, it doesn't make you a pro. Just because you are willing to go through a single skirmish that can kill you in just a few hits and take more than 10 tries clearing said skirmish doesn't make you a pro. I thought Lies of P's bullsh*t reliance on ambushes was bad, but this game made me appreciate it. I recently re-installed it a few days ago, and after the tedium this BS game has inflicted on me, I'm enjoying it far more than I originally did. I still think it's got too many ambushes, instead of dynamically placing monsters, but it's a far cry much better than this kusogemu that relies on spamming monsters and ambushes and overtweaking to create difficulty.
The low reviews I've seen for this game has typically come from players who aren't that good at Souls-like games or play far from optimally (like using seedlings every chance they get).
Yeah i am really impressed with how fun the umbral mechanic is. And the tension you feel while in the umbral realm really impressed me as well. I also feel like the game is a perfect level of challenge for me so far which is really nice. I was worried it would be too easy for some reason. Good video man.
It's a good game, but it feels generic compared to ELDEN RING. And I do not understand why it has no map. I got lost so many times, but with that said I get lost in my own Neiborhood.
Lower calrath needs some work. Lots of graphical issues causing crashes. Hope they fix it assp. Totally agree with the review though. Loving the game still.
I like it more than Lies of P. Tough i agree, combat in lies of p and boss dificulty are better there. Exploration and feeling wisw this game is way better. Im on pc and luckly i have no performance issues. My specs are a 3070 and 5600x cpu +16gb ram. Unfortunately i heard people with way better pc”s that have problems. Its clear that the game optimization is rly bad . Hit or miss for most Players. So, yea, its a 50/50 performance wise if you buy it Otherwise great feeling game that reminds me of ds1/3
I haven't played the game, so this comment is a general one aimed at soulslikes: Although I appreciate the thought behind making these games difficult and understand the addiction to the challenge and why these games are working with gamers so well, but I would really love at least one or two of these soulslike games to be a tad bit easier. Just a real little smidgen of leniency. I know that is a controversial thing to say, but for someone like myself, a family man, working so hard to be punished over and over again can oftentimes be off-putting and I find myself jumping into other games to avoid the stress of it all. I don't think the difficulty formula should change. I'm just saying that at least one or two soulslikes being released that are like 5% or 10% easier would be so tremendously appreciated. A way around this is to release a game with an easy option and then the developers make a point of emphasizing that the normal mode should be played instead. At least the option would be there for people like myself, but the game will tell you in many different ways that it is best played on normal.
I can understand the 4/10's. Sometimes your attacks go straight through the enemies, the multiple invincible enemies get annoying, the enemies seem to cheat you every now and then, etc. My score has been dropping from an 8 the further I get through the game. It's at a 6 for me right now.
LotF is a decent game with interesting ideas that largely did not work out. Its best trait is the exploration of two parallel world that is unfortunately also its big downfall. Levels are purposefully designed to confuse players and get the frustrated rather than excited exploring the world. Another downer is the combat, which is just bad especially after playing Lies of P. Combat is floaty, your attacks have huge forward momentum that seems nice at first but soon you realize it get you killed very often. Camera is last nail to the coffin of good combat experience-tight corridors are your bane, being too close to loccked enemy can confuse the camera as well. Sure, game looks great and if you have decent machine it will run fine as well. Unfortunately, game positives are balanced by its more frustrating aspects-combat, level design, no semblance of directions-so ultimately it is just decent experience. If you need to choose between Lies of P or LotF, it is Lies of P all the way.
Yes. Nothing to add. It is not a terrible game, but it has far too many problems. Biggest problem, it is just not fun to play, due to bad combat and terrible enemy placement and confusing world design.
About two hours in, the game feels like Mortal shell in a lot of ways, Hopefully there are some colourful areas as the engine is very good but just lots of depressing grey is boring and all the Dark Souls games have large vistas later in those games.
Firstly what platform are you on? I’ve heard there’s been issues with Xbox. If your on PC you’ll probably be fine, I run a tiny old G14 that has a 1660. It holds 60 frames quite well
I think Playstation runs pretty decently and I don’t have many complaints with the game other than the lack of enemy variety and sometimes questionable enemy choices, density, and placement.
People who are saying this is better than Lies of P must be joking right? Gameplay over graphics for me and LOP has much more polished, satisfying combat.
@@Mohgenstein Yeah graphics and exploration are LOTF’s strong points but bosses are some of the worst I’ve seen and combat is clunkier than DS1. I think combat needs to be one of the strong points of these type of games imo.
Combat is not the most important thing about souls games though. Dark souls combat is hella overrated, it's serviceable but nothing groundbraking. What's more important is level design and boss design and I think it does both those things very well. @@Voyze98
I'm loving this game so far, with about 15 hours in. If I had to rate it, so far I around an 8/10. I'm on PC and was expecting issues with stability/performance but I don't have any thankfully. I also like that I've noticed I think 3 patches that I've had to download since it's launch only a few days ago. So it seems that the developers are on top of fixing issues.
Lol I now game still need work, but to tell you the true iam so happy and that I purchase,I don’t have this much fun in a game in long time,if you love souls game you now that this game is gold and soon or later I’ll get better
Having a blast with the game. Truly outstanding visuals, GREAT level design and okay combat. I prefer the Sekiro and Bloodborne combat personally but the good old Dark Souls/Elden Ring combat is fine.
LOTF 2023 doesnt have input delay, and it assigns the dash and dodge button to different inputs - something FS completely and utterly fails at through all their games including Elden Ring. Lets face it, FS fans are mentally deficient - they are the community that think fextralife is a reliable source, and elevate a known plagiarist (vaati)
Erm…it….its called a game mechanic, you….you want the game to just hold your hand and be devoid of incentivising you from using the established game mechanics? Or do you literally not know that you are suppose to use the Lamp to make then vulnerable? In which case…you literally just kept banging your head against a wall trying the same thing over and over? 😂 This game truly deserved a better audience - Zoomers are just too stupid
Everyone is bashing this game, but I love it to death. It's my game of the year honestly. It's the most fun, the most freeing, the most build variety of any game I've played this year, including Lies of P.
There is a lot of things I'm liking about this game, but bosses aren't one them. I just beat the Hushed Sentinel and that was one of the most awful fights I've ever had. The previous bosses were okay and Pieta was good, but the stupid sentinel was too damn annoying with the stupid horse phase and the constant teleports and his bloated hp bar. It doesn't help that the recovery frames of the long swords are abysmal and the upgrade material are so scarce that you can't try different weapons at that point. I hope the following bosses are better than this.
It's interesting because I believe his health was buffed pre-release after feedback about the bosses being too easy, but that may have over-tuned him a bit.
@@LoreHunter To be honest, I wouldn't mind his giant HP bar if it wasn't for how many times he teleports away, and I saying this as someone who actually likes the Elden Beast fight. I know you can dismount him by hitting him with a ranged weapon or by exploding the parasites in Umbral, but you need to predict where he is going to appear and do it quickly or he will stomp you, which makes either method unreliable. Also, when you do dismount him, he jumps too far away, removing any real window to deal damage (you can do a running attack, but with the recovery time of the longsword, you are setting yourself to eat his next attack). Overall, I think if he was vulnerable while riding his horse, that you could hit him a least twice after dismounting him, and if he used the teleport attack less often in phase 2, plus a couple of tweaks with the lingering hitboxes of some of the root attacks, he will be a pretty solid boss with a cool gimmick. Maybe in the next patch, they will tune some of the bosses a little better or perhaps I will find a better weapon for ng+, either way, I still like the game a lot and I'm eager to keep exploring the world.
Lords of the Fallen (2014) was the first big failure to follow in Dark Souls' footsteps. - Clearly a matter of personal taste :S I really enjoyed it, only hated it for killing my Save-Game after the third Playthrough. Until then it was ... entertaining.
These guys crank out updates DAILY. It's obvious they really care about the game so I feel quite safe in my purchase. I think LoTF has some jank but it's a great game at it's core. I expect it's going to be one of those games people a year from now are praising as one of the best souls likes ever after they've ironed out the jank. That time could very well come much sooner at the rate these devs update the game.
dunno if I wanna get this game or not. On one side people say this was a disappointment of a game while on the other they say this was an amazing game looking at reviews it’s one or the other.
Lol I feel you opinions have been polarizing. My take is that if think about the most important elements of games to you and exploration and atmosphere are right up near the top then you’ll probably click with it. And then consider if you’d still enjoy it if there was a bit of jank and rough edges that come with a AA title.
I recommended the game on steam but i have some grievances: 1. Parry is extremely unrewarding and too risky considering you need to land 3-4 maybe 5 parries to brake an enemy/mini boss stance, and you ALSO take wither damage on top, just like you're blocking it...just..why? i understand wither damage from blocking, but not parry man, for some reason the last parry that brakes the enemies stance DOES NOT give you wither damage. 2. As someone who likes many mobs in a game so i can hack and slash through them, they went waaaaay overboard with the number of enemies in this game especially considering you get staggered by pretty much everything and you can easily lose your withered health from a random zombie slap. 3. Considering point 2, you'd think mobs would have lower damage considering the sheer amount of them, nah man, they hit too god damn hard for how many they are. 4. Considering point 2 and 3, why is there those blue spermatozoid looking spirits that you have inconveniently remove before attacking which brakes the flow of combat and puts you in a shitty dangerous position to siphon them? 5. Two handing weapons is very underwhelming, one handing is mostly the way to go, the damage bonus does not overtake the speed and recovery time of one handing them, i've tried many weapons, one handing them almost always comes on top. 6. Those moth creatures that shine like loot but when you loot them they one shot you?...yeah that shit is alright as a trap to bring you into umbral...but once you're there...THEY SHOULD NOT EXIST, because if you loot one while in umbral, you just get 1 shotted :P and die 7. Is it just me or do status effects apply very easily to your character...but never the other way around? 8. The lightreaper encounter from lower Calrath or whatever, needs to be remove from the game, unless you are a no hitter or a pro souls player who knows the tactics beforehand, you will not defeat him here (not sure if it's scripted encounter like the first one) but i had 10k vigor i lost because he kills you and just fking takes it with no possibility to get it back. These are just from the top of my head
This game is still running bad on the Xbox. It’s definitely getting better with each update but the game still stutters pretty bad in some places. Hopefully they can iron it out with the release of the upcoming content.

The first fight even is fun and its doable if you get to the mind of reading attacks but on paper the shit looks unbalanced. Fighting a women shooting lasers and flying is something you get some bosses in usually when you have more tools but they opted so much for showeyness they didnt really approach that you are really in tutorial area and this is basically a titorial boss. She doesnt teach me much aside from if you know souls games know to read attacks otherwise shes just screwing you over with animations. To add i couldnt even get coop before the boss fight but right as i enter i get invaded by a guy using the fire enemy and minions to rush me...thats not fun, its fckning annoying. You have the hardest minion at game start before a boss with others and a troll with more heals than you and more items trying to kill you, how tf did u not learn from souls. All that to have a shitty coop where when people die in battle they dissapear yet the revive option claims to be there but if you die in life and umbral they respwan with you? So coop is broken.
Look the game is a breath of fresh air. Ive been saying souls games for years are overated. They can patch alot of the things and will likely hear criticism in time.
Onward stormcast etern..!💪🏻 Whooops... my bad I meant hallowed knights!😅 Praise Siegmar👀
This game is awesome. I haven’t been able to put it down since launch. They really did redeem the name Lords of the Fallen
@@LoreHunter Do you think there was any legitimacy to the leak that explained why those issues happened on the gaming leaks and rumors subreddit?
@@LoreHunterI almost feel like the blood effect was meant to be uncanny, at least I‘ve not seen it in any other way in any stream or video.
@ArtOfDyingWell could you explain this comment for those of us that aren't familiar?
Yeah, the online does not work properly, I cannot summon anyone and it's hard to connect to any player as well, the netcode issues are real.

Anyone know where I can get a radiant catalyst so I can cast spells for dark crusader? I’ve checked all vendors multiple times, found orian preacher catalyst but no radiant catalyst.
Radiant catalyst is just a catalyst that aligns with the radiant magic school. The preacher catalyst is one of those.
Is good since you can heal the wither life with projectiles or spells .
@extremelyboredtatsumaki.495 Spellbound might change that 😉
Great video. The game devs are atleast trying to patch the game as much as possible, don’t forget to download nivida update if you have there gpu.
i ,ean there were issues on console as well worse than pc
I chose a strength build, early game is definitely a rough start.
Hopefully console versions are running better because it’s been lovely on PC 😎
yeah same here, i started playing this game, with not much expectations, everyone saying the combat was clunky and game was good but not as close from-software games, but i think this game is amazing, im so addicted to exploring and finding that new op weapon for my build haha, every time i go to umbral, i feel my life is on the line hahaha this game is providing me the same fun i had on elden ring, so fucking good, and visually looks amazing too
I enjoyed it alot, had some minor bugs and fps drops but otherwise good performance, there were some issues however
- some of the areas are extremely confusing to navigate, bramis castle is the biggest offender in my opinion, i spent 4 hours looking for a way forward before having to find a streamer playing the game to find out that there was a lever halfway across the zone that i had missed to progress
- pvp is dog, i wont elaborate further because devs said they cant fix it so its pointless to complain about it
- +10 upgrades severely limited.... i thought we had finally gotten across that no one wants limited weapon upgrades in souls likes but i guess not
-/+ visuals amazing, but fidelity falls apart with enemies around
-/+ combat feels good once you get used to it but it takes time to get the feel for
but that's really all for me, i genuinely enjoyed this soulslike the most of all soulslikes released so far.
its a soild 7.8/10 but i expect it to be in the 8.5-8.8 range if you wait for the patches before buying
Solid thoughts, I generally agree with all of it. Can’t speak to pvp really but that unfortunately sounds like the case
If we can please get some hud options
Finally an honest review! Tired of seeing these click bate haters just trying to trash it for either attention or comparing it to eldenring.
Not few of them are actually getting paid by competitors to defame the product. Imagine if someone offers you 200, 300 or 1000 euros in order to make a reel or a video to defame a game. Easiest money ever made.

Flower beds
Are fine there's way mote of them
Wish we didn't have to fight monsters in axion world when in umbral world. It just make sense to me since the umbral enemies don't fight us during axion world.
Waaaah too hard I dont like gimmicks waaaaah
Interesting to hear a positive perspective as the game is getting ripped on pretty much everywhere. I have not been able to sit down and really give it a good fair try, though in my short play time I did find the combat felt a bit numb and 'floaty' as others have mentioned. But the game looks great and has a nice ominous ambience which I love and I am lucky enough to have a beefy PC to run it well. Looking forward to sitting down and giving it a good try
One aspect of the game that is completely ruining it for me is the enemy spam, every room there are at least 5 mobs, each taking 3-5 hits and its even worse in umbral, which would be fair if it was your decision to enter umbral, but the game forces you into it every second step while not even trying to balance the amount of enemies to it
Im annoyed that people keep overhyping this. It has issues. Things that clearly shouldnt be in it. All the shit games that have co.e out to be big dissapointment and now people are acting as if this is just a straight godsend when the same people have acted like super critics. Must be paid off or something.
When i began this game the intro cutscene was great but the character creation was clunky, unintuitive, and confuwing at first. The ui seemed out of date and bad. Also that bs eula on game start says some fonky ass stuff people clearly didnt reqd this company should not be supported on that alone, literally a chunk where they say if they patch the game and it breaks then you should stop playing, the same mess creative assemply did with three kingdoms dlc before abandoning as unplayable.
You get past the creation and ho estly the starting level does not look pretty. All the graphical settings dont seem to change that it doesnt look far from "ds2 but better." Ds3 def did a better job with lighting and zone style even though lords of the fallen is a better looking game when you get to better lit areas and a dif color pallete but the dark gloomy dungeon felt like the wharf in ds2. Also the default stance animation looks off, the animations are nice and feel better than typical overated souls but the stansing animation you see most feels jank in some way. Doesnt flow well and it makes running and attacking sync weird even but maybe thats me.
I will say the ui and map is still awful midplay. Why is no navigation a staple in games like this. You have two worlds and want to hide it with goofy drawn maps that turn into a puzzle. Even remnant 2, a game about labriyths and mazes, handles maps better tf man. To add to it the ui is atrocious if its not tips blocking the screen mid play then its the menus literally not telling you information. All these stats and not a single way to see what they mean in a new rpg what stupid design is this even ds1 did that. I want to k ow in detail what endurance touches not just assume because of souls games this is this. The ui also looks awful in the menu looks like a game from oblivion era some type of xbox dark horror game like an old guantlet game. Really doesnt look pretty.
Eh and the control, my god wtf is up with controller support why cant i change my buttons. I had to fix the crap in elden ring because the developers have this idiot design of making less used buttons tied to the bigger back trigger. Im not using my lamp mid combat without intent nor my jeavy attacks as much as light and yet those are tied to the back triggers. That shit irks the hell out of me. There was a point where i played absolver and realized how fcked controls were for serious fights because of what you actually need to use most, why would not allow control customization.
Overall its pretty ok but i dont feel right for the camera its very sensitive on moving
On pc theres some technical issue
My first valkyrie boss was getting very bad frametime issue and some stutter
I only have two gripes with the game right now.
+ The movements are too slippery, so traversing near edges can be frustrating. This also carries to combat when sometimes you your character moves to an unfavourable position due to the movement assist. This is especially noticeable whenever I strafe around enemies
+ There are lots of branching path (which is good), but they all look too samey, which got me lost... too much more than I want to admit
Lies of P is way better than this game so far
I completely agree with your points, I'm having a great time with the game and there's nothing that would indicate a lower than average score. I will say that there are things within the game design that are sub par like the seedling mechanic or the persecution timer in Umbral, as well as poor voice acting in some parts, poorly rendered cinematics, and map designs that are frustrating without a true map mechanic. But all these things don't take away from the fun of the game. My guess is that a lot of these bad reviews come from people comparing this game to dark souls gameplay instead of judging it on its own merit.
Anyone have any tips of how not to get 3 shot with 50 vigor?
Elden Ring could greatly benefit from how this game makes wither damage, shields, COOP, spells, and consumables work.

As well as a more polished graphics and gameplay either.
I always explore before i drop a seed. Which usually works out but did RUIN a boss fight for me. Since that boss you only get a few attempts to fight because he relocates when u die. SO you essentially have 2 attempts at killing him before hes gone for good.

Loftf sucks on all platforms including ps5
Hm.

excellent video man, i couldnt agree more. this game is genuinely shaping up to be my goty. im only 20 hours in so that could potentially change, but so far, the level design has rivaled ds1 in terms of its interconnected design and thoughful world. when i got down to the bridge before calrath, only to look up to my left and see pilgrims perch wayyy off in the distance up by skyrest, genuine ds1 level moment for me. and the umbral mechanic, i wont lie, i too thought it was gonna be an annoying gimmick, turns out it is nothing short of GENIUS. safe to say i can addicted in a way i havent been since the dark souls and bloodborne days. this game truly feels like a love letter to dark souls and fromsoftware veterans.
I'm having a blast on ps5. It's a decent game.
Performance on ps5 has been very spotty still.... There's certain spots where it just straight up tanks....
It’s crashed on me twice while trying to rest, but even with that and a few other issues I am really enjoying it!
I've been playing this on the seriesX ,I'm not having any performance issues.
@@ReversedCentaur I'm surprised you think I give a Fu*K about your opinion..
@@ReversedCentaur huh? You saying “I don’t believe you” isn’t an opinion?! I think you’ll find it is lol!!
Hit or miss for most
Players.
So, yea, its a 50/50 performance wise if you buy it
Otherwise great feeling game that reminds me of ds1/3
That has to be the dumbest scale of rating. If that makes the game a 4/10
@@ioverslept. this dude probly like Forspoken
Biggest problem, it is just not fun to play, due to bad combat and terrible enemy placement and confusing world design.
does it play like bb/ds3/sekiro/er or does it feel clunky and disgusting to control like ds2?
It’s not as slow as DaS2, more like DaS3 in terms of speed. The controls feel fine to me, but there is a little jank.
@@LoreHunter so theres just some parts where it feels off? okay that nice to know, def gonna try this game now
About two hours in, the game feels like Mortal shell in a lot of ways, Hopefully there are some colourful areas as the engine is very good but just lots of depressing grey is boring and all the Dark Souls games have large vistas later in those games.
Why wouldn’t you think that before trying it?
I wanted to by this for months but because of the performance issues, i wasnt sure. Now im definitely getting this game.
Im having a blast ! Some performance issues on ps5 but overall pretty nice !
Soulsbourne + Soul Reaver + Pac Man = LoTF
I think it hard the from software I beat elden right 3 times I can't even get to the third boss in this lmfao
People who are saying this is better than Lies of P must be joking right? Gameplay over graphics for me and LOP has much more polished, satisfying combat.
Those guys might as well be playing story games😂 LoP is so much tighter and polished
Lords has far better level design and exploration
@@Mohgenstein Yeah graphics and exploration are LOTF’s strong points but bosses are some of the worst I’ve seen and combat is clunkier than DS1. I think combat needs to be one of the strong points of these type of games imo.
@@Voyze98 yeah bosses suck, lots of gimmick bosses
Combat is not the most important thing about souls games though. Dark souls combat is hella overrated, it's serviceable but nothing groundbraking. What's more important is level design and boss design and I think it does both those things very well. @@Voyze98
way better then lies of p - im saying it reminds me of dark souls 2 two lol - if u kno u kno
Yes, having a lot of fun atm and yes, it does remind me of DS2, which is a fantastic idea imo 😅
Wouldn’t go that far. It has far worse boss designs - some of the ganks are awful or worse: boring
It’s a good game with a very good concept in mind it just needs some polishing or it needed 6 months more under the hood
Lords of the fallen is addictive, only complaint is sometimes it goes to single digit frame rate but it's great when that is not happening
Well ot does have perfect blocking from sekiro and the bloodborne dash so it's not that far off
LOTF 2023 doesnt have input delay, and it assigns the dash and dodge button to different inputs - something FS completely and utterly fails at through all their games including Elden Ring.
Lets face it, FS fans are mentally deficient - they are the community that think fextralife is a reliable source, and elevate a known plagiarist (vaati)
I wanna know what people think about the invincible enemies thing, does it piss you off as much as it does for me?
Erm…it….its called a game mechanic, you….you want the game to just hold your hand and be devoid of incentivising you from using the established game mechanics?
Or do you literally not know that you are suppose to use the Lamp to make then vulnerable? In which case…you literally just kept banging your head against a wall trying the same thing over and over? 😂
This game truly deserved a better audience - Zoomers are just too stupid
Everyone is bashing this game, but I love it to death. It's my game of the year honestly. It's the most fun, the most freeing, the most build variety of any game I've played this year, including Lies of P.
Thanks for the review, very nice.
Do not play New game + if you dont like to plant lantherns🙃 its only hub from before. And you deside where you want to place the lanterns🙃
Playing on PC, loving g it so far!
Games gonna be a perfect souls like once the performance issues are fixed on the Xbox one x
Lords of the Fallen (2014) was the first big failure to follow in Dark Souls' footsteps. - Clearly a matter of personal taste :S I really enjoyed it, only hated it for killing my Save-Game after the third Playthrough. Until then it was ... entertaining.
@8:18 majoras mask!
Lorda of the fallen 2014 was a great game for 14 dollars which was what I paid!! Loved it
Wish they would've spent more time on getting the game to run smoothly and polishing the combat. Less time worrying about dumbass multiplayer.
And then consider if you’d still enjoy it if there was a bit of jank and rough edges that come with a AA title.
subbed for this video
I recommended the game on steam but i have some grievances:
6. Those moth creatures that shine like loot but when you loot them they one shot you?...yeah that shit is alright as a trap to bring you into umbral...but once you're there...THEY SHOULD NOT EXIST, because if you loot one while in umbral, you just get 1 shotted :P and die
Your gripes boils down to “Give me EASY MODE! I don’t like tension or fun in my games!”
Ive been shying away from this game as i never cared for it really and im hearig things on te performances So imma wait it out
They released a patch so it’s playable now, on PC anyways
i got BG3 instead. Armored Core 6 is the best game of the year
This game is still running bad on the Xbox. It’s definitely getting better with each update but the game still stutters pretty bad in some places. Hopefully they can iron it out with the release of the upcoming content.
