I've been to San Diego twice. The view on landings is spectacular. I've flown in and out of many airports, but as far as scenery goes, San Diego is the best!

I’ve been flight instructing for a little over a year now and I’m about 6 months away from typing and flying in an Airbus. I simply can’t wait to fly in and out of this airport. I’ve flown many many times in flight sims in or out of SAN and to do it in the real world would be something special.

Good luck to you! This is one of my favorite airports to fly into. It can be challenging in many ways. It is the busiest one-runway airport in the world. Also, there is no ILS on the predominate runway. Sounds like you are on a fast track. Most people spend many years instructing before they have a shot at flying a jet transport...

@@CockpitScenes Times are quite different.. Class got delayed but I'm about to start in about 4 weeks! Incredible how things went. In 2020 i put pen to paper with hopes of getting to a regional airline in 2025. I'll be getting typed soon.....in an airbus, wild times these are, in 2024.
Hopes are to get to my 'dream' legacy job within 5 years now. Seriously can't wait for the first time flying the real thing...

Grew up in S.D. and worked at SAN in the early 80's at the FBO, there was a cross runway that ran SE/NW but it has been closed and converted to A/C parking for airfreight. When I learned to fly we went in there occasionally for training. Worked with some interesting aircraft and people while there.

I’ve called San Diego my favorite hometown for 12 years now. Perfect city with perfect weathers all year long. I’m curious, why does San Diego only have 1 runway? Most airports have 2 or more.. I love seeing the planes land over the ocean beach pier when it’s cloudy weather.

It actually used to have a 2nd runway (31-13). It crossed 27-9 where Taxiway D is now. The south end of taxiway D was the approach end of 31. it was about 4000-4500 feet. But it added nothing to capacity, since the airlines couldn't use it. With the airport basically saturated with Airline flights, there was no benefit to accommodating GA aircraft on 31-13.

There is Brown Field but that’s mostly for cargo, charter, corporate, first responder, and private aviation. With the hilly terrain in the county, it’s tough finding suitable land for a 2+ runway airport.

Thanks for subscribing. I am not able to add any more flying content because I am retired now. However, I do have about 35 videos from my active years. I will be posting other content from time to time you might find interesting. I really didn't like that 727 video because it is just click-bait and devoid of any real content. I flew the 727 for many years and I have over 10,000 hrs. on it. It's probably the best flying and most fun airplane I have ever flown. It never let me down. That said, it has a three-man cockpit, and the systems are very out of date. There is no way it is coming back. Boeing may make a clean-sheet design to replace its market, but it will have nothing in common.

The landing in San Diego is always kind of cool with the tall buildings to the left. Leaving San Diego, however, is always slow. They really need a new airport with more than one runway.

Made that takeoff at SAN many times over nearly 30 years with the airlines! What is much more interesting is the approach to landing on that runway. One gets a good view of the downtown! There is a parking garage the aircraft pass over just short of the runway! It is cleared by only a hundred feet or so! Why the runway has one of the longest displaced thresholds in the world
