I made this MONSTROSITY of a guitar!

- I built this guitar to see if I could. I just thought a dowel based guitar would look cool. I’m not sure I was right. I’m not sure if it will break apart. But it was a fun experiment!
What great imagination you have. I love every project you make. Well done Danny.
Thanks!
Looks awesome! The hollow dowel was a great idea for the output jack.
Thanks! That was the part that I was most worried about before I got started. I thought about it for way too long.
Awesome build! Absolutely unique idea!
Amazing Danny! Good playing too!🎸👍
Thanks!
hope you named it Andie MacDowel
Entertaining and inspirational, as always! Keep them coming!
Very cool, I like the ingenuity, and nice contrasts with the dark and light woods. I would only change 2 things, myself. I'd wait until installing all the dowels before putting the final body layer around the outside, so the dowel ends aren't showing. Also, I'd use a piezo bridge for an acoustic sound, but that's just me.
Those are good ideas! I wanted the dowels to show through more contrast! I’ve never used a piezo on any of my builds but maybe I’ll have to try that next!
Newbie here! First, Amazing work!
I have a question, how is the body able to withstand to the tension of the strings? It looks so fragile, it's amazing that it works!
Congratulations!
Well its definitely not as strong as a solid body guitar. However, these are half inch oak dowels. They're pretty strong. Think of an acoustic guitar. The strings put the same pressure on the guitar top and it has relatively light bracing underneath.
Maybe someday this one will explode, but I doubt it!
As mentioned, if an acoustic guitar can handle the same string pressure, if not more even as the top ages then this guitar can definitely stand the test.
Would be really interested in seeing if it explodes. I wonder if you could figure out a way to hide a stronger material in hollow dowels to make it feel more solid. Or even just the back and no front would be more stable and look cool.
@@kbeezeeify I’m pretty sure it’s never going to explode. I’m not a structural engineer but, it hasn’t moved in the last few months.
The only dowel that’s hollow is the one with the wires going to the jack. The rest are solid 3/4 inch oak dowels. Oak is pretty strong as it turns out.
It’s not a great guitar, but it’s not going to explode!
you made it like nobody's business..
aight, imma head out.
Fantastic. Hollow bones like a bird. I have never seen anything like it.
Only one is hollow! Just the one with the input jack. I had to feed the wires through.
Awesome. I guess this solves the nitro finish myth....
That is awesome, I would buy that if I saw it in a shop
Thinking outside the box is where you met up with the mother of invention.Cool idea, glad it worked out.How long did it take the heating blanket to warm up the sides before bending?
I let it heat up for about 3 minutes before I start adding VERY slow pressure to the inside bend. I always do the "waist" bend first since its the hardest. The whole bending process takes maybe 15 minutes. Then I clamp it up, let it cook for another 5 minutes, then I turn off the heat and let it cool in the clamps for another hour or two. Here's another video where I build an acoustic and I break a side in the process: ruclips.net/video/ISftm7SiOes/видео.html
Thanks Danny! What about the temperature of the blanket? What number do you turn the dial to?
Wish I could build stuff like this.
You probably could!
@dannylewisguitars Id struggle with putting up a coat rack 🤣
Wagonwheel-Vibes
Wagon wheel guitar! Awesome!
Okay, but can you make a resonator (slide) guitar?)
Love the guitar! I watched 2 of your videos and both guitars sounded like they're either not properly intonated or slowly go out of tune. Which one is true?
If it was this guitar and this $30 guitar ruclips.net/video/kCVvoDAfzBg/видео.html
That's because the neck joint flexes under the string tension and messes with the intonation. I knew that would be a problem but I thought I could get away with it. Turns out justa bit of pressure from my arm or moving my body slightly when playing those two makes the intonation go crazy!
You should check out these other ones. Their intonation is much better. And they're more sturdy.

@@dannylewisguitars yep, you got it right, second video I watched was 30$ guitar. Thanks for your response! Keep doing great videos!
What scale neck is this? Was it hard to place the bridge exactly right to match the scale-length, given that it's "floated" in the center with dowels?
