The Empire of Japan is a constitutional monarchy, and according to the system, if the Emperor appoints the Prime Minister, he can choose the Prime Minister from among the members, regardless of whether they belong to the opposition party or the ruling party. While there I worked with the Japanese special police and exchanged gifts with one of the officers. I’m not sure I realized the historical period I was experiencing. I was a young Marine and had of course studied the Island hopping campaign of WW2, was stationed in Okinawa, and the Philippines while in, but really didn’t know enough about what I was witnessing at the time. My apologies to the Japanese people, and any embarrassment I may have brought the uniform I wore and those I represented. I could have been much better. In the modern history (of Japan), it was only between 1868-1945 that the emperor held the highest political authority in Japan (emperors Meiji/Mutsuhito, Taisho/Yoshihito, and Hirohito); as for the contemporary history of Japan (since 1945), it's the prime-minister (of Japan) that holds the highest political authority in Japan (again, not the emperor).

He's is so bias, I don't even know where to begin. Although Hirohito is the head of state, he doesn't even have same the power as other European monarch. He's seen as a symbol of unity and killing him would only trigger even the most liberal Japanese. Documentaries like this really makes me cringe so hard by the obvious super nationalistic point of view these series had.

whatever happens happens Emperor Hirohito wasn't just an emperor but a part of Japanese culture and heritage. Like the Royal Family is seen in Britain but put to the extreme. There were literally millions of Japanese people who would die for the emperor and the US feared that if they killed him than they would see mass suicides in Japan. Also Hirohito was more of a puppet than the puppetmaster and was manipulated by his generals. He never knew of the atrocities commited by his army because no one bothered to tell him.

whatever happens happens it isn't bad it's just some liberals tend to go too far left and start wanting more radical things. The only reason I really would support Republicans is on their stance on gun laws. I don't have any problem with the LGBTQ community and I also believe climate change exists etc. All the other republican policies I don't really agree with but I also don't agree with the Democrat's policies

J M that would be ridiculously hypocritical for the Americans. Perhaps they can punish Hirohito if they wanted (and even then it’s very unclear who started the whole mess), but dragging his children into it just because of what he may have done goes against the idea of the Americans being liberators. If the Japanese found out about this they would have destroyed themselves rather than peacefully come under the control of the Americans.
