Vintage Story is a post-apocalyptic sandbox survival block-like game with Lovecraftian-like themes and a lot of lore. It's in early access and has a ton of options for how to play. It even has a thriving modding community and was built with modding in mind. It can get a bit overwhelming at times to try to undersdtand just how much there is available to you with this game so I've made this video (and others) to help you to understand from the basics to the advanced. If you enjoyed this video, be sure to like, comment, and subscribe if you also want to see more. This video was made using version 1.18.5 of Vintage Story.

Great video, but I do have a correction to offer: your burn times were listed in game hours, but the actual time to burn is designated in real-world minutes (in the amounts you have listed on your signs). So the actual, in-game burn times are actually half the number of hours you have here, since 1 in-game hour is equal to one real-life minute (at default settings). Hope this is helpful! :)

Oh, yeah, that can make a big difference if you've adjusted game-time, I would imagine. I don't know if you can adjust the length of the "day" but I *know* you can adjust the length of the seasons.

@@AlatheD I'm not able to check at the moment, but if you can't change the duration of the day in the settings when creating a new world, it's pretty trivial to do with commands.

personally, when starting, I try to find a cave opening and use that area for my initial pit kilns. Just adding soil to the floor to form the kilns in and using rough-hewn fences to block off any darker parts that might have monsters
I also make my charcoal pits usually 3x3x3 at first, and then scale up and make dedicated stone structures as I expand my metallurgy to need more fuel - for anyone new to the game and curious, melting just about any metal takes higher heat than wood, peat, or brown coal can provide, so charcoal is the most readily accessible usable fuel source for it

I'm so happy to see this game start to blow up in popularity judging by all the new players commenting. I myself am also new and have about 10 hours in the game so far lol. I wish I knew about this game sooner, it's like what if survival Minecraft was ACTURALLY about survival.

I prefer a more relaxed style of gameplay, but not so free as creative, so I've spent a lot of time tweaking setting (which includes learning what you can and can't tweak) as well as adding some mods. I think I just about have the right balance finally to really enjoy my game. Depending on what is "too much" for you, you can adjust the damage enemies deal the health points you have, the growing times of trees, hunger stats, etc. I'm as dumbfounded by how customizable this game is as I am by how involved it is. You can make tweaks to an existing game if you feel you need to as well. Have fun in the Story!

I wouldnt suggest most coals for pit kilns, sure it'll quicken the kiln but at the same time, all the coals are extremely useful for metalwork.

This is the most time consuming and difficult survival game I’ve ever played. I’ve barely scratched the surface and I’ve out in 20 hrs already

The maximum for the charcoal pit is 13x13x13, not 11. 6 blocks to each side of the fire.
