this is a shit review. here's mine. I pre-ordered the game so I have a couple days of play time under my belt. I'm a huge fan of the arcade-oriented Dirt games (2 & especially 3). I have since transitioned (via Dirt 4) into the sim-leaning Dirt Rally 2 and it's pretty much my favourite racing game. I'll be comparing Dirt 5 to 2 and 3, rather than DR2.0. Dirt 5 takes the series back to the casual arcade days, with some great new features: livery editor, playgrounds mode, dynamic weather, more event types, 4 player split screen in career mode, blah blah they haven't shut up about this stuff. these are all really good, mostly courses are great (but super wide! more on this later), have lots of variety in them and all the locations have lots of personality. some locations have very few courses and other have quite a few (Nepal has 2 + the same 2 in reverse and NYC has like 8 + 8 reverse). this is a little disappointing. it would be nice to get a few in the future to fill out the roster because I expect to get tired of them eventually. they all have multiple weather and time of day options which is great, but this could still be better in my opinion. however, it fails in a one *very* *important* way and a few less important ones. 1) most importantly, the handling model is too easy. there are a few assists that you can set at high/low/off, but there's no basic tuning like suspension, ride height, gearing that you had in Dirt 2 & 3 which was nice even if it was quite basic. worse, all the vehicles kind of handle very similarly. the trucks change direction and grip in the turns in pretty much the same way as the rally cars. there's also not much difference in the rain or snow which is disappointing. this feels very wrong and it's the main reason why I am overall a little disappointed with the game other stuff: 2) collisions are pretty basic and there is no mechanical damage at all, a little disappointing. it would be nice to have it as an option 3) the whole story mode thing with voice actors and the podcast is dull and uninteresting. the voice actors deliver their lines well enough and it's pretty well-written, but everything "happens" 100% offscreen. you could play the whole career mode and not lose anything. this is more of an opinion. 4) livery editor isn't anywhere close as flexible as something like NFS or Forza. there's also no share features as far as I can tell. quite disappointing given all the hype about it. 5) lack of any point to point timed events on narrower and/or faster roads like rally or trailblazer is a huuuuge miss for me. those were my favourite event types in the old games and what got me into the more serious Dirt Rally 2.0. instead, all the courses here are ultra wide, which is quite boring as the AI isn't that fast so you're often just trying to not crash so you can stay ahead.
totally agree, handling model is way too easy, I'm always in control, when I think i'm about to lose control of my vehicle while in a drift, I just turn back the opposite way of which ever way I was drifting n I'm ok, I know it's an arcade game, but it still needs a challenge. The only thing challenging in the game is the sprint cars, which are quite enjoyable n should be what all cars in the game should be like in terms handling in their own respective ways. dirt 2/3 does a way better job then dirt 5, n it's not just the handling, its whenever you jump as well with the vehicles feeling they are been pull down by extra gravity or when u collide with another vehicle which does hardly anythin, n thats a real turn off. makes the game feel restricted, unnatural, n that we r racing with plastic cars instead of, as CM described it i think, heavy bulky powerful machines.
"DiRT 5 is a true step forward for its genre in many ways." Please tell me where you buy your weed because you must be smoking some severely strong shit right now. This game is an absolutely enormous leap backwards for this franchise, and it's preposterous that a so-called professional game reviewer would neglect to note that.
Some people actually know that before Dirt Rally, Dirt 4 and Dirt Rally 2 (NOT really Codemasters, they're at Playground Games now) there existed a Dirt franchise with games called Dirt, Dirt 2, Dirt 3. Those 3 games were amazing, simcade games that features rally and X Rally style races but weren't hyper realistic. They had cool menus, cool music, and amazing gameplay. Dirt 5 maybe isn't a "step forward' compared to Dirt 2 (many people's favorite) but it's getting back to its roots. The new Dirt games are NOT what represent the series. Dirt has always been Simcade. Not totally arcade like NFS, but not a Sim like Dirt Rally.
Also among the things that sets it apart from the competition is the 4-Player Split Screen support. A feature that's available through the game, for those wondering.
I love the tracks, but the driving does seem really easy! it's the most arcadey Dirt game to date, which is fine by me! My only gripe at the moment is when during a race, pause screen pops up because Dirt 5 servers lost connection!
@@alepepperoni2563 It came with EA Play! But I have bought games before to have them show up on ps plus before. On rush I bought day 1 and it was free like 2 months later on plus.
IMO this series peaked with Dirt 2 because that game had so much character and a fun soundtrack with good gameplay. That is something many racing games lack or they go to far to be that edgy kid which is what the NFS franchise does.

I really wish that would get a remaster but with Sony axing Evolution Studios and Codemasters taking them on I’m really unsure why they haven’t made another one? Good video overall, but has room for improvement. Would love to have a very low background audio when you are speaking, since it is currently odly strange in a way. Plus more in-game audio from time to time during the video.

Deep deep deep deep sale. This is gonna bomb sounds like people are pissed. Glad it's not got McRae's name on it sure he would be super pissed with this.
I’m sorry but I’m my opinion dirt 4 was a great game, a good emphasis on realistic rallying, real cars, runs really well, looks incredible, real locations and just overall a really well rounded game. This on the other hand, I’m not sure when this releases but this looks like a beta, the landscape on one of the tracks looks like a bunch of male genitalia for mountains, this is a downgrade, like most other games that were destined to be great they fell victim to just over the top customization and like in your face colours and really really annoying voice actors, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say this isn’t the style of game we wanted
Snap! They had a perfect game in dirt4 all they had to do was keep same code and mechanics. Make new tracks, upscale assets and put the game out as dirt 5. To outsource this out to other developers, well I'm pissed and this isn't a codemasters game.... Colin McRae would be livid!
The game looks great, and deffs getting it day one! Reminds of me of Dirt 3, and 4player split screen, is just icing on the cake, we'll be staying up late chucking lan parties with this game!
I'm actually looking forward to grinding on this starting release day, my goal is to have it platinum before Black Ops Cold War releases on the 13th. Seems reasonable enough lol. Fun off-road arcade racers are enjoyable mindless fun!
Please stop saying that the game looks beautiful. It looks horrible at times, flat lighting, all the trees are completely shadowless, and looks illuminated. Everything around the track is very low quality. The cars barely reflect anything, and look almost plastic like.. Visuals are SO far behind here. While still being a step up from Dirt 4, it is WAY behind Dirt Rally 2.0, which looks fantastic.. And it's not even close to Horizon 3... It really is a puzzle to me, when someone says that this looks good.
Dirt 4 and 5 have nothing in common, lets not even mention Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2. If anything its closest relation is Dirt 2, with some Showdown, but that’s where the Dirt family ends. This is a new (although not original) approach. Motorstorm, Forza Horizon 4 are clearly inspirations here that stand out more than the Rally heritage of the Dirt family (with the exception of the mentioned Dirt 2 and Showdown - should I add Dirt 3 for Gymkhana?). He didnt play this did he lmao. Its just the same footage repeated. Also, he says the best graphics ever.... is it just me or do these graphics look like crap?
Did Codemasters pay for this review? The graphics are poor, the cars are underpowered, the car control is poor, AI is terrible, sense of speed is poor and the tracks are boring. Dirt 2 and 3 are much better games in spite of their age. Codemasters lost its way lately. First was Onrush and now Dirt 5 and to cap it all the macro transctions of Dirt 4 and 2.0. In my opinion Dirt 5 is a huge disappointment and i would give it no more than 6/10.
Sega Rally Revo? That game is more realistic, funny how its considered arcade but it has real time surface deformations (mud etc) which impacts the handling of your vehicle. Name me one new racing game that has that (not that simulation on mud game).
@@samfkt I said reminds me of, doesn't mean it has to have the same mechanics. I don't know much about Revo. I just remember Sega Rally 1995, Sega Rally 2 Dreamcast and the one on PS3/360 with deformable mud. And they were quite colourful in style which back then arcades has bright attractive graphics compared to dull console ports.
Damage looks non-existent and the roads are 4-5 lanes wide. Where is the "rally" in that? *This looks like a Dirt rip-off that tries to be Forza Horizon 4 but fails!* Reinvents nothing + strips features and game mechanics that the Dirt series already had nailed...
yeah there's visual damage but that's it. there's no point-to-point rally/trailblazer events and all courses are ultra wide so you can have 12 vehicles at once. it's a decent game but it's missing a few things. oh also handling is too easy too and different classes handle too similarly.
It seems to me like the team that made dirt 4 and dirt rally 2.0 just left and a knock of forza horizon team just threw something together, the idea of a rally game is narrow roads with trees and cliffs and things u have to avoid, and dirt or gravel roads and realistic damage, this game looks too easy to me
It's sounds horrible, what the f have they done to the dirt name.... This franchise is dead now. They cut corners. Visual damage only wtf! Rallys / trailblazers. I'll avoid codemasters games now. Disappointed with them. QC has gone down.
Rating this a 9/10? Are you outta your mind? It’s a 2/10 at best! Terrible weather systems, watered down graphics, game crashes, looks better on high than it does on ultra high and not drastically worse on ultra low, same 5 race tracks with route A, B and C with forward and reverse and a terrible selection of horrible looking vehicles with race challenges a 2 year old could complete (drive at 60mph for 5 seconds). Not even worth £10 and they’re charging £45 🤦♂️
This is made by what used to be evolution studios which was owned by sony. They made driveclub and motorstorm so the game being beautiful is no suprise
What? It looks shit and gamma rays way Too bright! It's supposed to be codemasters game not bloody evolution studios. I'll never buy an E Studios game after this. Ai is crap, too easy, no damage , poor wheel support. Looks grainy saw it on TV other day. Oh well not my cuppa tea this one. Will not be buying.
@@jackmullin9247 i think it looks really beautiful especially at 60fps. Not sure what looks bad about it but i dont see it. If your issue is you dont like arcade racing games thats cool. There are plenty other games you can buy
Had a hard time with this review because of the repeating footage. 2 possible reasons I can think of. 1) Problems with the capture card (If this is the problem you can explain it at the start of the video, problem solved) 2) Lazy video just to get it out, if this is the case shame on you. Disliked the video because of this.
Good to hear for Codemasters after project cars 3 and fast&furious. Project cars 3 isn’t a bad game just perhaps mis sold and the community don’t forgive easily. I love codemaster games and generally they always deliver good racing. Although I would them to try an alternative to Acc or rf2. I think I would be wonderful but perhaps it’s not commercial enough.
They outsourced dirt 5 though? Game wasn't made in house? There stock has gone down in my book. Won't be buying their games for a while till I hear positive reviews. Some major features missing in dirt 5. Shocked they put this out!
Im very skeptical when it comes to codemasters these days, last several games thay have launched have gotten good reviews and good publisity but over all opinion from the end user isnt so good at all.
My honest review after trying Dirt 5 on PS4: This game looks and plays horrible, graphics are outdated (looks like a ps3 game, screen tears are so frequent), physics are horrible (I love arcade racers as much as sims but this game feels like load of crap, floaty cars with no difference in fwd, rwd or 4wd), NO WHEEL SUPPORT??, no damage, limited car list (they are probably going to try and sell stupid people their recycled car assets from dirt rally 2.0), to sum it up: hot pile of unpolished and unfinished garbage, which is such a shame because it had so much potential. I'm glad I got a refund, DO NOT SUPPORT CODEMASTERS' LAZY WORK, don't buy this game
If you are expecting a racing game with sim elements and uber realistic physics, this game will disappoint you, and you should purchase Dirt Rally 2.0 or WRC 9 instead. If you enjoy arcade style racing games and want something in the vein of Sega Rally, Motorstorm, or Dirt 2, this is a great return to form and is arguably the most fun and enjoyable racing games since Forza Horizon 4.
@Javier Ruiz I wound up pre ordering the standard edition didn't care what people said I had to try it out myself and tbh I isn't noixecany pop in or screen tearing I played in performance mode and tbh couldn't really tell the difference graphically... I like it so far
Motorstorm on ps3 looks better than this game. I'll stick with gt7 or whatever the next forza is. Edit: If a new project ghotham is ever a thing I ma just loose my s***
I actually enjoyed Dirt 4 a lot. The only thing lacking there for me were more different rally styles. From waht I'm seeing, this Dirt 5 completely ignores Dirt 4 and it comes back to Dirt 3, which I personally dislike. I hate gymkhana and for me they can obliterate it from the series. The game menus from this Dirt 5 are too "americanized" for my liking. Too childish. Maybe I should migrate to Dirt Rally, even if I don't care for simulators and will definitely miss some other rally racing events. Wish they sticked with Dirt 4 formula.
I love this game but it really needs replays to be added. It sucks not to be able to rewatch the action afterwards, I pray that codemasters patch it in.

@@davidlavelle8653 I also think it's crazy you can drive perfect for 95% of a race and lose for one small mistake, then you could crash all over for 2 out of 3 laps then drive perfect last lap and win. Rubber banding does go both ways I just don't think it's necessary
@@brettberry9846 yeah I’ll be getting it too just because it looks like dirt 3 which was brill and it seems way more geared towards online racing so you eliminate the rubber banding with real players 😃
Haters about to be mad. Dirt 5 is looking good!
I am certainly no hater - Codies shaped my love for rally and racing - but I’m taking this review with a fairly large grain of salt...
I've played it. it's good. but the handling is too easy, even compared to other arcade Dirt games like 2 & 3.
@@ianism3 I was afraid that was gonna happen... This is Showdown all over again
Nah
He didnt play this did he lmao. Its just the same footage repeated. Also, he says the best graphics ever.... is it just me or do these graphics look like crap?
They look like early 360/PS3 graphics.
Driving a white car through mud and it's not even getting a dirty car...shouldn't it be splattered in mud.
Sounds more like an advert than a review
A rally that doesn't have a rally mode how is that on track
They completly murdered the series. This boxy, arcady piece of shit is not worth 20 bucks, let alone the 60 they ask for
I have to say, gaming bolt reviews are hilarious, and I'm convinced there's a big joke going on to trick people into buying bad games.
Great Review - will be getting this for me and my son :)
wtf, those graphics r looking like CS 1.6,
Footage for racing games is hard to capture super accurately 🤷♂️ there are high-end videos of 4k footage from it that look fantastic though.
Review the pc version and tell me if it still warrants a 9/10
10 min gameplay and you give 9 for score?
Reminds me of Sega Rally with it vivid colours.
Many hours on that masterpiece!!
@@Sh4un1r1k its probably the 360/ps3, its how it was called on PC. But its not just deformable mud for looks, it actually has physics.
Gaming journalism people.
Damage looks non-existent and the roads are 4-5 lanes wide.
Where is the "rally" in that?
*This looks like a Dirt rip-off that tries to be Forza Horizon 4 but fails!*
Reinvents nothing + strips features and game mechanics that the Dirt series already had nailed...
yeah there's visual damage but that's it. there's no point-to-point rally/trailblazer events and all courses are ultra wide so you can have 12 vehicles at once. it's a decent game but it's missing a few things. oh also handling is too easy too and different classes handle too similarly.
It looks like forza. Whats up with the cartoon color depth
omg how many times do you need to repeat the same track sequences over and over and over again?? are you trying to annoy everyone ???
Rating this a 9/10? Are you outta your mind? It’s a 2/10 at best! Terrible weather systems, watered down graphics, game crashes, looks better on high than it does on ultra high and not drastically worse on ultra low, same 5 race tracks with route A, B and C with forward and reverse and a terrible selection of horrible looking vehicles with race challenges a 2 year old could complete (drive at 60mph for 5 seconds). Not even worth £10 and they’re charging £45 🤦♂️
Good reviews bro well said!!! Can't believe this channel gave it 9/10 obviously been paid alot to give a crap game a mint review.
We need a new Motorstorm for PS5.
Hell yeah baby!!!
We need a new MotorStorm
Had a hard time with this review because of the repeating footage. 2 possible reasons I can think of. 1) Problems with the capture card (If this is the problem you can explain it at the start of the video, problem solved) 2) Lazy video just to get it out, if this is the case shame on you. Disliked the video because of this.
Just bought this for the PS5 (summer sale). Fun arcade game. Can’t wait for a racer that is designed just for next gen hardware.
Totally agree that PC3 wasn't a bad game! Codemasters may have been bought by take two!
They outsourced dirt 5 though? Game wasn't made in house? There stock has gone down in my book. Won't be buying their games for a while till I hear positive reviews. Some major features missing in dirt 5. Shocked they put this out!
I'm having a blast with it.
It's t the final verdict but they were unable to test the online mode on this pre launch build. Good job!
This game looks amazing cant wait
More of the same, i guess. I miss Dirt 3, and it's Outbreak and transporter mode. That was very fun!
If Need For Speed Heat,Forza Horizon 4 and Gt Sport can have fully customized liveries to upload and download why can't Dirt 5?
Waiting for this to arrive @GamePass. My Horizon 4 needs a rest.
The modifications don’t need to happen as the cars would all be set to regulation spec so that’s a null comment
Im very skeptical when it comes to codemasters these days, last several games thay have launched have gotten good reviews and good publisity but over all opinion from the end user isnt so good at all.
What about dirt 2.0 ?
My honest review after trying Dirt 5 on PS4:
This game looks and plays horrible, graphics are outdated (looks like a ps3 game, screen tears are so frequent), physics are horrible (I love arcade racers as much as sims but this game feels like load of crap, floaty cars with no difference in fwd, rwd or 4wd), NO WHEEL SUPPORT??, no damage, limited car list (they are probably going to try and sell stupid people their recycled car assets from dirt rally 2.0), to sum it up: hot pile of unpolished and unfinished garbage, which is such a shame because it had so much potential.
I'm glad I got a refund, DO NOT SUPPORT CODEMASTERS' LAZY WORK, don't buy this game
Codemasters don't disappoint
They have disappointed me..... Could take long time to build that trust again. Sales gonna be poor for this game! Wait and see!
They did with this game
If you are expecting a racing game with sim elements and uber realistic physics, this game will disappoint you, and you should purchase Dirt Rally 2.0 or WRC 9 instead. If you enjoy arcade style racing games and want something in the vein of Sega Rally, Motorstorm, or Dirt 2, this is a great return to form and is arguably the most fun and enjoyable racing games since Forza Horizon 4.
I want to get this game but I'm still on The fence
@Javier Ruiz I wound up pre ordering the standard edition didn't care what people said I had to try it out myself and tbh I isn't noixecany pop in or screen tearing I played in performance mode and tbh couldn't really tell the difference graphically... I like it so far
No wheel support on Xbox! A racing game without wheel support - ridiculous. It’s coming but later...just submitted for a refund.
I’m getting this today I can’t wait
Ps5 Version for me.
Motorstorm on ps3 looks better than this game. I'll stick with gt7 or whatever the next forza is.
Edit: If a new project ghotham is ever a thing I ma just loose my s***
Only way I'll play this game if it's free or on Game Pass. Not worth buying
i believe its gonna be on xbox game pass
@@picernjm its not a a xbox exclusive
So only xbox exclusive go on gamepass day one ?
yes
@@who_else_but_dee2821 STUPID! I already know.
This game is fun, probably a 7/10
I actually enjoyed Dirt 4 a lot.
Reminds me of motorstorm.
Exactly. It's a nice replacement for that series at this point
@@Johnnygrafx Boy does it bring back memories. They should call the game motorstorm reboot already because that's what it feels like.
Sooooo... no actual rally stages then? It just looks like a arcade cartoon rally game
1:37 damn car pop-up
Incoming elitist sim racers to ruin the day
Unoptimized and a lot of options are missing.
Where did all the realism from dirt - dirt 4 go? :(
Its got a fucking toureg but we get fucking atlas at work
why he talks like the Cnet guy?
I love this game but it really needs replays to be added. It sucks not to be able to rewatch the action afterwards, I pray that codemasters patch it in.
Asphalt 8 on my phone looks better than this, no joke
NO STEERING WHEEL SUPPORT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR A RACING GAME.
Punishments pissed him off
