Love the early-80's laser show in the background.....this is one tour I will always kick myself for having missed. Ronnie at the height of his powers, with a tight band behind him. Awesome.
This is by far the BEST version of this song...especially for LIVE, which usually sucks due to sound recording technology at LIVE events. Hell, this rendition is even better than in Heavy Metal, the movie, which until recently, was my favorite version.
Jeez the memories, I saw Dio in Sept 1984 and they played this as an encore, the place went absolutely fucking mental. Viv Campbell is one of my all time fav guitarists, I think his talent has been somewhat wasted since he left Dio, his bands since then have not really been big on huge riffs so he hasnt really expressed himself like this period of time
Vivian campbell shreds this version of the mob rules it makes guitar icon tony iommi look like a kidnergardner I wish dio and vivian campbell did not have a falling out we would have had more iconic music from this group
Rest in Peace. Another excellent frontman is gone. What great memories. He sure did kick-ass in Rainbow, DIO and Black Sabbath. Partied many times in the 80's with his voice in the background of a kegger.
Great show at the old Spectrum in Philly. I was there. The tour before this show Holy Diver at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby Pa. is still my favorite concert of all time. Twisted Sister opened when they were promoting You Can't Stop Rock n Roll. From 80-86 were great years for metal. Real metal. Not hair metal
Danny Jingu Viv can shred but he spent most of his post-Dio career avoiding it. Personally, I think his best work was on the first Riverdogs album. His riffs and solos were thoughtful and more soul than shred. I think his tone was his best ever on that album as well.
I was at this show and recall him saying to the crowd it was being filmed (for what I don't know) which made the audience go even crazier than the already were. Never saw any of the footage until now. Thanks kulian and youtube!
Thank you Ronnie James Dio for the killer classic metal songs and unforgettable, exciting live concert performances!! RJD is in Heavy Metal Heaven-- HOLY OUTLAW ROCKIN' HARD FOREVER!!!!!!! \m/ \m/ The absolute Best of the Best- Ronnie James Dio R.I.P.
Kulian1111: Thank you for sharing this with us. This is one of his best live performances of The Mob Rules. I didn't get to see him on this tour, but 86' rolled around and I was most certainly not going to miss that one!! He's so amazing and unforgettable in concert. I will always feel blessed for that experience....
I went to his concert with Heaven and Hell.. exactly a year before his death. The Concert: 05/16/2009, his Death: 05/16/2010! And it was my first concert...ROCK IN PEACE, DIO!!!
I have no idea what your trying to say, but for the sake of chronological accuracy, he actually wrote, and began performing this song in 1980 or 1981 when he was in Black Sabbath on the Mob Rules album
This show has been out since vhs was in. I was lucky enough to be at this show. The whole show hasn't been releases though :( songs like man in the silver mountain, long live Rick and roll, and holy diver were played that night, but not released. I asked Viv about this and he had no clue why or where the footage is.
@lencycler1 I think it was on tv some time around midnight on the weekend. I never saw the footage before these videos and I don't think it was ever released on vhs or dvd. Sorry I couldn't help out too much
Does anyone know what ever happend to this guitar of Vivs? I was at this show and saw it go flying after We Rock, and I have seen very FEW pics of him playing it any other time. I 've seen him with the LAst in line one several times, but not this one.
Likewise! In my opinion, I think maybe that's why Yngwie Malmsteen left Steeler and Alcatraz to go solo-so his guitar playing can REALLY "take centerstage and 'stir up a hornets nest' !"
"DIO" upside down never spelled "Devil", it was an Old German font that used a lot of stylized characters for each letter and looked a little bit cursive, but it was the "Christians" who wanted to see something there that wasn't. They wanted to demonize Ronnie because he'd just left Sabbath so he had to be "another Ozzy". If you go back to Rainbow videos, RJD comes off as more of a hippie, not a "Satan" type. Again DIO is not DEVIL upside down! Get over it.
he's talking about the organised crime "kill the Spirit" And don't talk to strangers is more of a Social awareness , of not to be brainwashed into thinking your better than everyone else because your above everything with some Pseudo perfection. Don't read too much into it . If your intentions are bad your evil , if your intentions are good ...your Dio
This is a goddamn brutal version of The Mob Rules. Fucking shit this is Dio at his finest hour!
The guitar solo is madness!!!
I was at this concert. And yes, I don't understand how he does not desire to shred, when he can shred like this!!!
@2:24 ... bad ass shot with Ron and then Viv squeals the guitar for his 2nd solo .... Priceless! !!!!!!!!!
Vivian Campell full of energy and pure talent...amazing guitar player...!!!!
I was there.Worth every penny.Twisted Sisted opened.
Love the early-80's laser show in the background.....this is one tour I will always kick myself for having missed. Ronnie at the height of his powers, with a tight band behind him. Awesome.

Viv is a beast on this song.killer lineup and awesome stage show.DIO rules
The greatest voice ever. So angry and powerful....and yet offstage he was just the nicest guy you'd ever meet.
Jeez the memories, I saw Dio in Sept 1984 and they played this as an encore, the place went absolutely fucking mental. Viv Campbell is one of my all time fav guitarists, I think his talent has been somewhat wasted since he left Dio, his bands since then have not really been big on huge riffs so he hasnt really expressed himself like this period of time
"you've nothing to say? They'll drag you away"
Love this lyric/song writer
Vivian Campell goes off. Awesome.
Ronnie James Dio to rest for me one of the great gods of metal in your music and lyrics will live forever
Dio is in his utmost here. Yea, he lived not a very long, but a very intensive life. Thank him.
I was at that show. Brings back alot of memories. DIO RULES
Went to Providence RI show with TS opening....those were the great years. Wanna be's like GnR '85 couldn't keep it going..
You were there!!!! OMG!!! How awesome!!!
Tony Iommi: I wrote this great song!
Vivian Campbell: Sit down Tony, I'll show you how to solo over it.
Bain is killing it on bass here but the Gez does the same song effortlessly without a pic.
R.I.P. Dio!
A clip from one of the best LIVE dvd's i've ever seen!!!
This was a great video he put out in the 80.s live from the spectrum.
ITS 2017 AND IM STILL WATCHING THIS MASTER PIECE
It's sad to watch Vivian in this video, and then see his talents wasted in Def Leppard
+Danny Jingu Def Leppard is a great band, but of course, nothing compared to ABCD !
Def Leppard is a fucking joke musically. Cool guys but they are on the same level as Bon Jovi in my opinion.
Danny Jingu Viv can shred but he spent most of his post-Dio career avoiding it. Personally, I think his best work was on the first Riverdogs album. His riffs and solos were thoughtful and more soul than shred. I think his tone was his best ever on that album as well.
Nonsense!
He can't play with the same speed. He has health issues and probably has arthritis setting in.
I'm not a big Vivian Campbell fan but gotta give it up on this one. I'm not worthy to have heard that solo insanity!!!!
They shred like they're on coke
I was at this show and recall him saying to the crowd it was being filmed (for what I don't know) which made the audience go even crazier than the already were. Never saw any of the footage until now. Thanks kulian and youtube!
DIO Da Man.
DIO ROCKS PERIOD!!!!
R.I.P Dio
God screwed up on taking Dio off this planet. I'll bet there's no longer sleep in heaven....Dio's rockin' their brains out.
Kulian1111: Thank you for sharing this with us. This is one of his best live performances of The Mob Rules. My god... I really like this song...
I went to his concert with Heaven and Hell.. exactly a year before his death. The Concert: 05/16/2009, his Death: 05/16/2010!
And it was my first concert...ROCK IN PEACE, DIO!!!
What a great song - and a great band playing it! And, of course, the greatest singer of them all singing it! Great stage show, too!
Holy fuckin Christ... Vivian!!!!!!!!!!

Now that Dio's gone, Hell's rockin', and God keeps whining to the cops.

Heavy Metal RULES!!!!
I saw Dio on this tour (Last in line) at Hammersmith odeon. This was the opening number.
Dirty trolls just want to make a stir and dilute perfection - only reason for dislikes....and the fact that they are still pissed that disco is dead!
Dio. is. epic.
Fucking sweet !!! Kickass!!!!
@lencycler1 I posted that I was at this show about a month ago. If I remember correctly, it was recorded for The King Biscuit Flour Hour.
Viv camb is fucking wicked!!!!!!

RIP Jimmy Bain
+ertznay : Yes, Let's not forget about Jimmy ~
100 FOOT SOUNDS OUT OF A 5'4 BODY NOW THAT'S AMAZING.
In the marvel’s avengers game iron man flies to this song. Pretty cool they used real rock bands for iron mans soundtrack
Watching that solo made my fingers hurt- OUCH
Mob Rules, the album, and Holy Diver got me through 2 years of hypocritical Christian school.
@ertznay Haha that's awesome!
I was there.
DIO IS GOD \M/

in latin dio means god..he is one of the gods of metal
Epic
R.I.P. Ronnie

@DACOWLES I totally agree!
long live your dad
Dio my brother
Vivian Campbell is utterly wasted in Def Leppard
Does anyone know what ever happend to this guitar of Vivs? I was at this show and saw it go flying after We Rock, and I have seen very FEW pics of him playing it any other time. I 've seen him with the LAst in line one several times, but not this one.
Best part of this vid is Mr. Yellow Bandana at 0:48
This is Dio after we left Sabbath, that's why no Tommy Iommy
0:48 Headband
HUEHAEUHAUHAEHhaeuhehue, VERY HEAVY HEADBANG kkkk

0:46 this guy is hardcore!
Likewise! In my opinion, I think maybe that's why Yngwie Malmsteen left Steeler and Alcatraz to go solo-so his guitar playing can REALLY "take centerstage and 'stir up a hornets nest' !"
