Yes, that is Aaron Lewis, who sang "Am I The Only One?". This is where he started. No addiction involved, but this song 100% reminds me of when my husband and I separated years ago in our 20s. I cried to this song every day for months. We reconciled, we had three more children, then he passed away at only 45. This song now reminds me love can fix anything, except death. 😥😥
Oh, I am right there with you! My 1st marriage ended YEARS before this came but I still had it on repeat thinking about him. We never got back together, but we became best friends. He passed in 2019 at age 48. I miss him every single day. 💔
I love when you started putting things together "Wait a minute. It seems like I reacted to an older version of him. Maybe a pro American song??" Oh, I love it ❤
The singer is Aaron Lewis, and since 2010 or so, he has been a country artist. You reacted to Am I The Only One? Country Boy and Granddaddy's Gun are worth reacting to as well. Another powerful Staind song is Outside.
Awesome! Layne is another great one about Layne Staley of Alice In Chains. So many great tunes. I really love the first album, it was brutal and raw. Dysfunction.
I had a friend die in a house fire in 2001. This song always reminded me of him. I went to visit his grave one day & this song started playing as soon as I parked my car! Like a little "Hello! I'm still with you!" nod from heaven.
Aaron Lewis is an incredible artist on his own ... has that ability to personify emotion much like Chris Stapleton and it projects loud and clear in everything he sings... Stained is a whole other level tho and they xame together at a point in my life much needed... Aaron has a video out that includes the back story for their song called 'Outside' that is absolutely epic!! Aaron also has a tribute to Chester (they were good friends) covering 'Crawling' that is the ultimate example of the emotion he brings to life 🫶🫶🫶
Staind is one of my favorite bands of all time. This was their break out hit but my favorite song of theirs is Something to Remind You. Makes my heart break every time.
5:40 That voice was popularized by Grunge music in the early 90's. (Pearl jam, Nirvana, sound garden). You're absolutely right, there was a late 90's new wave of alternative rock, that attempted to mimick that same vocal sound. It's referred to as "Marble mouth" singing. they call it that because the technique requires you to, instead of opening your mouth and projecting outward, like more traditional singing. Instead you widen the inside of your mouth (like your filling your mouth with marbles), and project it internally, which creates this deeper soundbox vibrado like sound. i personally call it shower singing. Because it sounds like when you sing in a small space like a bathroom. I kind of miss this style of singing, it has a lot of soul in it.
Another really crazy song from that time period is from a band called crash test dummies, The name is literally mmm mmm mmm mmm. It has over 43 million views and I don't know it's something different I think you would like it.
Aaron Lewis is an amazing songwriter and voice of the 90s progressive rock. The Family Values Tour with Korn, Limp Bizkit, Staind, Ice Cube, Filter, Redman and Methid Man, Incubus. Such a great tour. Aaron’s duet with Fred Durst for Outside was epic.
Matchbox 20 was another good band back in those days. “3 AM” is probably my fav. Rob Thomas wrote the song for his mom when she was battling cancer. They have a Greatest Hits that’s amazing. I don’t see very many people reacting to them which is odd. But anyway much love❤️
@@docjohnson1 Or dedicated stalker. hahahahaha See what happens when you try to comment on anything on the internet??? I'm sorry hahahahaha just kidding around.
You should definitely check out more from Staind. They really don't miss on much. I would recommend "Outside," as well as "Right Here" to get you started
Yea, I feel the same way about this song. I'm getting over a guy that was on drugs (meth) and makes me think of how he might feel one day but I'm moving past it so it's nice to hear it but def not on repeat.
I bet you would love the band hinder they had several songs that blew up in the early two thousands lips of an angel was really good better without you is amazing but they had so many great Kings Of Leon also they had a song called sex on fire and one called use somebody that was really good . What's crazy is you're right a lot of the especially in the rockish John rock from 97 to probably 2005 lot of them all sound the same they all had their own talent and their own good songs but they sounded very similar hinder and Kings Of Leon and matchbox 20 had a different sound Rob Thomas from matchbox 20 is ridiculous he's got a song with Santana that was really good also.
I couldn't relate when this first came out. Like you then I had a great family life and near fairytale marriage. My wife passed 3 years ago next week and I haven't adapted well. I now feel this song to my core. As Always thank you for your sincere and honest reactions!
i think the band you're thinking of from that time could be Linkin Park. i was 31 when this song came out. always been a Huge music fan, and this song hit me like no other.
I highly recommend reacting to the Staind song Outside and know that Aaron Lewis literally made the lyrics to the verses up live on stage during the concert that first got them noticed. Fred Durst put them on their first major concert when he had Staind open for Limp Bizkit. Aaron Lewis had written the lyrics already for the chorus of Outside but hadn't written the verses. Fred Durst had heard the chorus and liked it so he told Aaron Lewis that if Staind performed that song then Durst would come out and sing on the chorus with him. So during their biggest break to date Aaron Lewis gets on stage and makes the lyrics up to the verses of Outside in real time as they are performing the song. There's a video with Lewis telling this story and talking about how you can see his nerves if you watch recordings from Outside being performed for the first time. This version made up on the spot is the same version that ended up being recorded. This is one of the most wild and impressive stories I've heard of a songs origins.
Love Aaron Lewis as a rock star and country singer the new album is classic Staind the song Here and Now is my fave but they have so many great hits it's hard to pick just one ❤
I agree - excellent song when in that kind of mood. I have a playlist of a huge mixture of moods and genres that I put on random play during long road trips. They make the favorites but I will just skip past them if not in the mood while driving down the road. Sometimes songs like this will just allow my mind to wander and help boring parts of the trip go by faster as well.
Dead on with time frame, and it absolutely got a lot of us through a bunch of sh*t. Aaron (Lewis) really had a unique sound that is so very much a trademark of staind. There are a lot of heavy topics throughout his time as the frontman for staind and how he describes his perspective just felt really raw (that’s the best way i can remember how I felt when I first heard their music). His country stuff is really good as well and he does really cool acoustic sets as well
Staind was kinda born in the grunge rock era. They have many good sons! Singer is Aaron Lewis currently doing more country. Other songs by Stained - Mudshovel - Something To Remind You - It’s been a while … lots of really good music!!
Your saying DON'T SMOKE.. IT'S BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH... Ok.. but I started smoking at 12.. I am 43 now (Still smoking)... And your JUST NOW telling me not to smoke?? Damn bro.. NOW YOU TELL ME!! lol
Music genres are so varied, and rarely can one band be described as any single one, but Staind, Puddle of Mudd, Breaking Benjamin, Three Doors Down, Creed, Nickelback, Shinedown... as Post-Grunge/Hard Rock/Alternative Rock. I always recommend Breaking Benjamin.
It’s no different than when everybody was listening to gangster rap in the early 90s. When someone gets on a sound that is popular everyone gets on that sound. It’s just like listening to music from the 60s, psychedelic bands sound the same. Folk music kind of all sounds the same. It’s just sub genres of rock ‘n’ roll. Each time. Comes with its new sound.
Solid song. That whole "Break the Cycle" album is great tbh. I totally agree regarding being careful what music you listen to on the regular. Soundgarden will always be *my band* ,but I have to ration myself to just an album here & there, & play a couple of upbeat fun tracks as a palate cleanser immediately afterward. Soundgarden is some *top-tier* melancholic beauty in music form.... but that melancholy can be sticky, & can negatively affect your mood for hours or even days afterward if you don't take steps to balance things out. ;)
This song is back from 2001 when Aaron Lewis was with the band "Staind". Since then, Aaron Lewis has become a solo act...sometimes with a few artists for a show. You played one of his solo songs about 4 months ago...that's why he looks familiar.

This group is Badass Staind's first album was Dysfunction 2nd was Break The Cycle. The launched into Outter space when this Single dropped! Unfortunately Staind retired quite a few years ago. They despised labels! And said Staind will never play again or create another album for a label. He in last 2 years has said Staind is working on first new material in years. And will release on their own label/studio. Because they're stupid rich and can. He also had trouble having time for a Staind project because of his popularity as a Country artist.
