This was my daughter’s favorite song. Every time I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes. She passed away 9/24/20, leaving behind her 3 week old daughter, who I’m raising now. I miss her so much!💔💔
I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter. Thank God you are able to raise your granddaughter.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I hope life has treated you and your grand daughter gently since.
@@potandpoliticswithmr.broph1420 thank you! We’re doing good, and knowing I still have a part of my daughter still here with me helps tremendously.
Bless you, hang in there and teach her well.
Love you granma/mum
This is from the movie City of Angels. In the movie he's an angel who falls in love with a human. He has to choose to fall to be with her. Hence the line I would give up forever to touch you
Such a sad movie. 😭
@@kathigreen1479oh that truck!! I actually jumped out of my seat with shock! 😢
Plus she's killed by a car at the end even though she's found love with an angel
Saw that movie on a flight!
Amaaaaazing movie
The line "you bleed just to know you're alive" always gets me.
Me too 😢
Me too my pal who choice suicide
When my sister was struggling with her cancer listening to the GooGooDolls helped her through her treatments and when they heard her story they sent her to a meet and greet with backstage passes and even gave her an autographed guitar. They truely are amazing. I prefer their early punk stuff but even this is awesome.
oh wow......that is so fucken cool......pray she is well...that is such a cool thing they did and hope your family is good...shout out from South Africa
@@gavinlocke800 thank you she is good now after 18 years she is finally cancer free
I love this for her. I’m so glad the band was so gracious. It’s great to hear She’s doing better now.❤️✌️🌼
GooGoo Dolls, Matchbox 20, Vertical Horizon, Everclear.. There was a lot of good music that got you in your feelings around the turn of the century.
All of them,YES!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Can't forget Live, "I Alone", "All over you", and "Lightening Crashes"
A playlist of my angst. Add 3 Doors Down, Lighthouse, Green Day, and you play with a full IPod.
Plus this dude can sing like nobody's business!
Johnny Rzeznik.
I agree. I'm a huge goo fan and have seen them live many times. Finally got see Johnny play a solo acoustic gig last winter and it was absolutely incredible.
This song live from Buffalo in pouring rain is AMAZING!!!
Yes!!! That one!!!
💯 I hope he watches that it’s better than this!😊
Yes!!!
Goo Goo Dolls were a punk band for a long time with little success. Then he wrote "Name", a ballad on a B-side that blew up to the #1 Played song for an entire year. His old Punk fans lashed out at him and he turned into a recluse in depression for a long time. Eventually, he recovered and exploded back in his haters faces with this and another epic ballad and secured his place in songwriting history. But yeah - the lyrics make sense because he was dealing with hate from old fans and sudden adoption into a pop culture his brand had originally shunned.
Saw them back in the day at The Continental in Buffalo. They played there a lot. Sadly, The Continental is being torn down. I enjoyed them back in the day and was glad to see them succeed. I liked them when they switched genres as well. Two different styles, but a great band regardless.
I loved both iterations of the band. I love “There You Are” and “Iris”. John is a talent and the band is amazing.
From the movie City of Angels with Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage
It's been years. But didn't they use this song when she gets killed? I Remember her being on a bike or something?
@@ms.lisamarie82 I believe so
Yes, the Angel lived to be with her and she died...
yea make sure you guys get those spoilers in there. I know it's an old movie but i'm sure a lot of people would of been happy to know that the song is from the movie and be able to go check it out themselves.
In the movie … City of Angels, this is from the Nicolas Cage character who is an angel. He falls in love with Meg Ryan who is human. She can’t see him unless he makes himself visible. To be able to love her he has to “fall”. He wants her to know he’s an angel, who he gives that up for. So he goes to a a high building under construction and holds his arms out and falls off. Not gonna tell you what happens. It’s a good movie to watch! Great cast too. My favorite angel is Andre Brower. And Dennis Franz is an ex-angel who tells him how to “fall”.
Hearing the lead singer, John Rzeznik, tell his story of struggling with writer's block helped me get out of my own writing slump. So I'm eternally grateful to him for that. 😊
Their Unplugged session on MTV? Or was it Austin City Limits?
This was one of my late husbands favourite songs. 14 yrs since his passing I can listen to it and smile.
I’m sorry for your loss too ! ❤
What a lovely legacy😺
This song was a great soundtrack for the movie. Probably the best angel movie of that era
Heartbreaking 💔
One of the true beautiful tragic movies. Everyone should watch it I feel ❤
Love the song and loved the movie until the end. Hated the ending. A little too heartbreaking for my taste.
If the era is late 90's early 2000's its Constantine....
City of Angels was a remake. The original movie, Wings of Desire, was even better. And its ending is happier, too. Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s in German: the subtitles are worth the effort.
And the kicker is that the sequel (Faraway, So Close!) is even better than that. Both have Peter Falk (“Columbo”) in a cameo role; the sequel has cameos by Lou Reed, Willem Dafoe, and Nastassja Kinski (among others) 💐
The Goo Goo Dolls were the quintessential 90s pop band! Beautiful, thoughtful, well-written songs!❤❤
Another Band from around this time is Train. Check out Drops of Jupiter, it's one of those songs that you'll playlist immediately.
Heck yes to this!
John Rzeznik is a wonderfully talented songwriter...love his voice as well! You might really enjoy "I'm still here" it is a Disney song he wrote for a Disney movie but the lyrics are very powerful. Also, a song with sort of a rapper vibe is "Flat Top" I think you would like it as well...don't know if it has a video. Thanks for covering Goo!
They did a great live show for their hometown Buffalo back in 2004 I think and it started raining and they just kept playing. There’s a live performance you should react to!
The Buffalo, NY live show is the best audience participation that I have ever seen. Very moving. Check it out for yourself.
This song was written for the soundtrack to the movie "City of Angels" with Nicolas Cage and Meg ryan. He played an angel who gave up his powers and invisibility to fall in love with a human woman.
Love Iris. The lyric “I bleed to know I’m alive “. Gets me every time 🥹
The name “Goo Goo Dolls” comes from a True Detective ad for a toy called the Goo Goo Doll. The band needed a name for a gig, so they just randomly picked one based on something they saw.
THANK YOU FOR THIS! I’ve always wondered, man I love the comments section at times!
I love the Goo Goo Dolls! This is one of my favorites, but my love for the band started with "Name". They are just as amazing live. ❤️
My daughter and I have seen the Goo Goo Dolls 4 times in concert. I cry at "Iris", and she cries at "Name". Watch the video of "Come to Me" with your lovely wife. You both might have some tears!
I have seen them about 15 times in several different states..they never disappoint!!
BP-You should check out the ultimate performance of Iris! Even if it’s just for yourself! You will love it. Live in buffalo

Me and my husband danced to this song on our wedding. This band is amazing. Try Slide, Big machine or Here is gone.
Their breakout song ‘Name’ is one of my favorites of theirs, it has a beautiful acoustic guitar solo in it. They have lots of great songs though, awesome band.
A great song from the 90s!
This was a big hit song and was also the big song from the soundtrack for the movie "City of Angels." The song, and the movie, was about an Angel who falls in love with the human he's supposed to watch over. He ends up giving up being an Angel so he can be with her. The Goo Goo Dolls are great and have had many hits. If you'd like to hear more from them check out "Name", "Fallin' Down", "Slide", "Broadway is Dark Tonight", "Someday". and many others.
I'd heard that the singer (his name escapes me) sat and watched the movie and then immediately wrote it.

The singer's name is John Rzeznik who is the lead singer for the Goo, Goo Dolls. The song was written specifically for the movie and appears in the movie and on the soundtrack album. The song was also included on the GGD album "Dizzy Up The Girl." John Rzeznik, along with a few other music artists, was invited to see a rough cut of the film and wrote Iris the next day.
Sounds like the first Book of Enoch and Genesis 6.
One of the best songs of the 90's.
This song is from the movie City of Angels. It's about an angel who's job is to help people travel to the afterlife. He gets close to them as their time nears. They cannot see him until they are about ready to die. He falls in love with a woman and loves her so much that he falls and becomes human to be with her.
They wanted him to write a song for the movie city of angels. He watched the movie and went home and wrote the song in an hour.
Excellent band, definitely worth a deep dive.
I love The Goo Goo Dolls! This song is on the soundtrack City of Angels. You can't go wrong with The Goo Goo Dolls! Black Ballon is another great song and so many others, too.
It was in Treasure Plant, excellent Disney movie
Every time you say playlist, I think of the 70’s, making my playlist. One radio, one cassette player, and two fingers were ready to record once the DJ stopped talking. Dang he always talked as the song started. Sitting for 90 mins for the top ten to finish.
A TIMELESS JAM... ALWAYS REMINDS ME OF MY FIANCE WHO PASSED YEARS AGO !!!
This was written for a movie “ City of Angels” with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. Alanis Morrisette actually wrote “ Uninvited “ for it as well. Which is breathtaking.
They have a live version in the rain that’s insane
Perfect! You're on a roll.👍 Goo Goo's are my #1 fav rock band & John Resnicks voice is heaven to me. He's also a gifted song writer& guitar player..this my fav song ..soo beautifully written and composed. In concert they sound exactly the same..possibly better and give an incredible show.
Listen to "Name" and "Slide", my next 2 favs.
I've heard this song a 1,000 times at least..never gets old; his voice soothes my soul. This also is the theme song from the Movie City of Angel with Nicolas Cage. Which is about Arch Angels
Blessed❤😊
Hell yeah! 90’s rock is good stuff. I’m confident you’ll enjoy.
Brings me back to the 90's. What an interesting decade for music. This really is a beautifully written song. And I love their performance.
You should really see their concert where they play this somg in the pouring rain
You bleed just to know you’re alive. my favorite lyrics in this song.
I look at it from my own perspective... a broken man who wants his children to know who he really is rather than to simply see him for the broken husk of the man he once was.
I used to want this to be my wedding song. It's also from a good movie, City Of Angels, written specifically for it. If you see the movie, you'll understand the lyrics more and why it's called Iris.
Nope not a vampire. He is an angel. IT is from a movie called City of Angels. Amazing heartbreaking movie.
This song was used in the movie City of Angles with Meg Ryan and Nicholos Cage. He's an Angel and he falls in love with a mortal. Good movie, great song.
Goo goo dolls are my favorite 90s band and I never got to see them live until I was 62. They ended the show with Iris and it a beautiful experience! They sounded amazing. Lots of great songs like Slide, Name, and Black balloon to name a few. Thank you for reacting to this ♥️
John Rzeznik is an amazingly gifted songwiter. Listening to his deep and resonating lyrics with the perfect melodies on board is a moving experience. And a beautiful voice too! He and the GGD do so much good in the world and give back.
This is in the movie City of Angels. An angel falls in love with a human. I don't want to say anymore because then it will be ruined.
Name is a really good song from them. Also they are fantastic live .
NEXT! Jim's Theme by John Rzeznic: the lead singer.
Awesome song and band. Seen them a few times and always a great concert.
I love this song!!! It's great. This was a song with the Movie N. Cage and M. Ryan. City of Angels!!! Watch "City of Angels"
Fun fact! The bassist was the original vocalist. He still sings some of the older songs in concert. His voice is pretty unique too. Maybe check out January Friend.
I LOVE Robby’s singing! Superstar Carwash is my fave GGD album and he’s awesome.
My husband and I can't wait to see them next month at a festival in our town here in Ontario Canada.
Met these guys back in 1995 when they were on tour, very, very nice to their fans.
Love your reaction very much - not only coz you loving that song, but thanks for you opening up and sharing your past and emotional development with us. 🧡
Glad to hear some love for it! This was my wife and I’s first dance song when we got married almost six years ago!
Johnny Rzeznik is an incredible songwriter. Tragic life story too.
This is one of my all time favourite songs. It means so much to me and always beings a tear to my eye. We played it at my bf's funeral last year as he loved it too so i will always associate it with him now.
Always appreciate your transparency and owning your life's choices. Great reaction, bro.
“Slide” by GGD has great energy.
Great group to get into: watch their live in Buffalo July 4th concert footage (their home town). Name, Slide, Iris, and others.
Man Goo Goo Dolls is such a fantastic band that I think a lot of people overlooked. They have a lot of catchy songs meant for the radio but a lot of their deep cuts sound like hard punk rock. It blew my mind when I first heard.
It's very hard for people to point that finger of perception at themselves. I think the reason so many of us look forward everyday to seeing your reactions is because you are so perceptive. Not just with the music but with people including yourself
I couldn't agree more with you.
It is always great to see people evolve as they mature.
This song was wrote for the movie City of Angels with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. I love the live version on the Fourth of July.
My favorite song on the planet, EVER!! I can listen to this song forever. Such a powerful song
This came from the soundtrack of City of Angels with Nicholas Cage where he plays an angel. In that theme, the lyrics makes sense. It's a very touching movie as well. Hearing this song makes me want to see it again.
great analysis brother!
This is a great song. My favorite Goo Goo Dolls song is "Name"...it's got one of the best lines "scars are souvenirs you never lose"...
Saw the live last fall, probably one of the best concerts I have ever seen.
When he was on Live from Daryl's house he talked about how they came up with the name of the band.
And???
They have other really good songs like Name, Slide, Black Balloon, Sympathy, Flat Top, Girl Right Next To Me, Better Days, and Come To Me. They did a cool cover of a Supertramp song Give A Little Bit. I’ve been a fan of them for many years.
All great John Reznick is a great song writer
My favorites from Goo Goo Dolls are Slide, Black Balloon, Here Is Gone, Long Way Down, and Name in that order. Can’t go wrong with any of those.
To me, their best tune will always be "Name." This song you just heard was so huge when it came out, especially with it being the big song from the City of Angels movie. It became one of those songs that you heard all the time and eventually got tired of hearing.
This song was so big that it messed up the lead singer of this group so bad that it sent him spiraling after experiencing severe writer's block. After having such a smash hit he was like "How do you top that? Even though it" only" hit #1in three countries, it was and still is, known worldwide. It put them on the map. It wasn't their first hit tune, that would be the song "Name" but it was whey made them stars.
There is an amazing live performance of them in their home town of Buffalo, NY playing with buckets of rain coming down on them. Great performance and you can tell how much they loved their hometown fans.
The Goo Goo Dolls are a bucket list band For me
You should react the live version when it’s raining. I think it’s up there with Queen/live aid performance. Just a beautiful live moment that people just come together to enjoy a moment together.
If you ever want to really get some great insight into both the Goo Goo Dolls and the least reacted to great artist of my generation - Sarah McLaughlin - you should watch the moving “City of Angels”. It is a masterclass in a really great movie and reflection of Life but the soundtrack is basically one of if not THE best of my generation (outside of possibly Singles or Reality Bites) but the Goo Goo Dolls and Sarah McLaughlin deliver incredibleness! Sarah is an absolute BEAST
I've watched enough videos to say that you are easily the best reactor out there. Being honest and real goes a long, long way. Keep up the good work.
Love this band. Johnny Reznik has a great voice and they write some incredible songs. Just saw these guys live last year and they are incredible live. This song is from the movie CITY OF ANGELS, which is also an excellent movie. Check out more of this band - "Slide", "Black Balloon", "Long Way Down", "Name" and more.
Love this song, one of the absolute best imo! They were incredible when I saw them 2018. And Black Pegasus, your maturity is really impressive, you seem like an awesome guy and dad!
This song always makes me feel melancholic and think about the past. I wish I could go back in time to 1998 when it first came out. Life was better then.
They were both great and vastly underrated at the same time. 🤘
"CITY OF ANGELS" Movie with Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan is a must see!! It's Awesome!! Saw Goo Goo Dolls in concert and they Rocked!! Love so many of their songs like "SLIDE", "BROADWAY", "BLACK BALLOON", " HERE IS GONE", "NAME", "COME TO ME", "LONG WAY DOWN".
Saw them in concert early 2000's and they were incredible. Great live performers....
My favorite band from the early 90s. My daughter treated me their concert a couple of years ago. Best day ever!
Omg. I was ready to Mary this man when I was about 15. And my son has his dimple ❤❤❤. Gosh. Just took me way back. Lol
This particular song was written for the movie "City of Angels" back in the mid '90s, and truthfully Johnny hates singing it now because it's become the One Song the band is known for. When I saw them live in concert, they made us fans sing most of it. XD
Thanks for picking up on one of my favorite bands of all time! They may not fit your hip-hop preferences, but they're indeed some of the most technically skilled artists of all time and their lyrics are fantastic.
Love love love this song
Your ears needed to age like a fine wine so they were ready for this trip down various music lanes. I always enjoy the Goo Foo Dolls. Love your reactions. Thanks for sharing.
You should also hear their song "Name" ...their lyrics are indeed very deep & profound
Black Balloon or Name next!! Can’t miss!
The Goo Dolls would practice their music in Robby's West Seneca , NY garage. They'd come home from touring the states & fall back on their Hometown responsibilities... They took out family garbage and Shoveled the Buffalo Snow. They came back to their hometown as if they never left. Great Guys
Saw them in concert in February. They still sound amazing.
The Goo Goo Dolls have a TON of great songs.
love me some goo goo dolls. its good to see that you are open minded about all types of genres.
I was the same as you except with heavy metal, my younger brother broke me from that and I discovered so much more. I love watching your journey through your discovery of other genres of music.
For a supposed Rom Com, City of Angels asks a pretty philosophical question and has a killer soundtrack. Alanis Morrissette’s Uninvited also comes off this soundtrack, you should definitely check out that song, especially her live version at the Grammies (I think it’s the Grammies).
It’s my son’s 8th birthday and all he wants is a cake made from watermelon. They are fun to carve and arrange with other fresh fruit and he can share with the whole neighborhood. 😊
for another Goo Goo Dolls, Black Balloon is another must, although rather dark...in the same vocal vein...EDWIN MCCAIN...."'I'll Be" was popular in my high school days (I did an acoustic solo to it for a concert) if you liked this you will like him and that song too I bet. hope you and yours are doing well, brother!
This song is very meaningful to a lot of us. Even us metal heads from the 80’s. Yes as men with military Dads things were different. But BP look at life at 20,30, now 40 We as men change a ton especially with marriage and having kids. I’m blessed with two boys 15 & 11. We are very open about 90% of the time. Yes hugs,I love you every morning and every night no matter what. Goo Goo Dolls from Buffalo. Big Bills fans 🤣. I’m here for it
"SLIDE", "BROADWAY", "BLACK BALLOON", " HERE IS GONE", "NAME", "COME TO ME", "LONG WAY DOWN" are some GOO GOO DOLLS Songs to check out!!
❤❤Sweet !!! I love the GGDs !!!❤❤
