I think that this song in particular sounded better w the early/mid ‘70s lineup; especially when it was just Kreutsmann and Pigpen was still around (his organ meshes perfectly w the song when he actually did play it), mainly most of the Europe ‘72 tour versions, or really any version from ‘72.....
@PatDog949 NO! He used the tiger ever since the 80's First Started! This is the " Wolf " Garcia played it in the Warlock days. And The Grateful Dead, ( Went back ) I Guess and played this concert not as " The Grateful Dead" But As " The Warlocks'
Was just wondering that as I watched, you can see Bobby hitting those chords like they insulted his mother, yet you can’t hear them at all. Bobby and Phil’s presence in the audio mix are what make or break a GD recording for me, especially Bobby...
Moses come ridin' up on a quasar His spurs were jingling, the door was ajar His buckle was silver, his manner was bold And I asked him to come in out of the cold. His brain was boiling, his reason was spent His motto is nothing is borrowed, nothing is lent He ask me for mercy, I gave him a gun. He said these things just got to be done. Abraham and Isaac sitting on a fence You'd get right to work if you had any sense You know the one thing we need is a left-hand monkey wrench. Gideon come up with his eyes on the floor Said "You ain't got a hinge, you can't close the door." Moses stood up above his six foot and ten Said "You can't close the door when the wall's caved in." Ask him for water, he poured me some wine We finished the bottle and broke into mine. You get what you come for, ya ready to go Well, it's one in ten thousand that come for the show. Abraham and Isaac diggin' on a well Mama came quick with the water witch spell Well cool clear water well you can't ever tell. Abraham and Isaac sitting on a fence You'd get right to work if you had any sense You know the one thing we need is a left-hand monkey wrench.
15 years since I first heard this song, and that opening line still carries the same amount of punch. Love me some bobby
Wolf was the most delicious sounding guitar ever made.
For real...
Some people liked tiger as best.
it should sell for zillions - most iconic guitar ever -
Unpopular opinion, but I LOVE Jerry’s Strat sound from the early ‘70s the best...
Always loved Brent's voice. Sad he couldn't keep his life going. This was the best configuration of the Dead.
No question.

@@tronsnow4763 100% agree with this. All the ‘72 Europe tour versions are crazy good.
I WAS THERE!
July 4 1989 Rich Stadium Buffalo NY. I was there!
This version lives rent free in my head....and I don't mind at all. ❤
God Brent Mydland's voice is so gravelly on this song.
@TheClassicMusicMan Thanks TCM Man. That is great info. I always forget about "The Wolf". Epic guitar. Legendary.
I was there and loving every second!!
i love how jerry and brent go back and forth with each other
Along with Bertha this song is my favorite song Brent sings harmonies in. He brings that fire!!
That's amazing...I just learned where both songs were first introduced and last played on the same day... interesting...
Another song that is great with Brent singing harmonies is Samson and Delilah.
Anyone else READY TO GO!!!😲😱😲

I miss Brent .
2:56 MAKES ME SMILE!
Jerry is so clearly out of it here. The band picked him up.

Not referring to Bobby as Glo - but thanks :)
yeah, the last thing we need...
Tyler Childers did an amazing version of this song
Is that the Tiger guitar? That was one of the few times he brought her back, if I'm not mistaken.

@PatDog949 No Problem!
I upvoted this to 421.
