This is actually a old traditional song that Bobby learned in folk circles and then the dead picked up when Bobby brought it to Jerry but none the less it’s basically a dead tune at this point well near known through them But o truly agree Tyler covers this is amazing from a fellow dead to another much love
I don’t know of anyone as authentic, and genuine, as Tyler Childers aside from Sturgill Simpson, and Jason Isbell. Zack Bryan and Logan Halstead are two up-and-comer’s on the way to making it big in my humble opinion!!! KeepTruckin
So fun watching Tyler grow and come out of that shell he used to appear to be in when not holding his guitar. The growth is beautiful. My favorite singer/song writer of all time!!!
Tylers stage presence is just unmatched. You can see hiim and feel him but it's still indescribable to me. All that energy pent up in side of him just waiting to unleash like Armageddon.
The new sober Tyler is like a part two to his career…we already got the best catalog out there from him. Hopefully part two is even more amazing and with this new album it looks like it’s gonna be
Why does he keep whipping his nose? I hope he is sober but there are many signs that he is not..Johnny Cash and Waylon said they were sober many times, but they were not until many years later
5:05 this bit where the bassist and the lead guitarist mirror each other is insane. As a deadhead, it immediately reminded me of that same part of Greatest Story from the Bickershaw Festival Europe 72 show (5/7/72). The band clearly has a reverence for the dead, or at least they did their research.
It's been two days and I can't stop coming back to listen to this? There's drugs in this chorus, I swear. One of those songs you feel in your entire body. The way Tyler is is feeling the energy of every single word, I get it now. I'm dancing the same exact way at my desk now every time I hear it.
A lot of people in here might not want to hear this, but there is something very Eddie Vedder about his growth and stage presence. He's gone from almost shy, to being a front man. 👍👍
Man just greatness is all I can say,I could watch Tyler over and over and love it even more everytime, him on stage versus million dollar videos and main stream artists,...take him and a guitar any day....
Tyler Childers is a real class act...what a real, down home, genuine decent hillbilly boy... Talented, articulate, intelligent, unassuming, full of the grace of God and unashamed... and easy on the eyes to top the whole thing off.. what a beautiful creation... tyG
I have listened to this at least five times a day since I found this video. I'm a sucker for a good cover, and this one is incredible... TYLER is incredible!! Thanks for sharing!
I also listen to them allot, just keeps me rent free , bet you're a good fan of country songs,we could share some if you don't mind, so what other platform do you chat?
good grief - I've come back to watch this so many times. The pedal steel on this is a huge highlight. And Tyler's energy! Man. Was best song of his set fo sho. Love Triune God too.
Nice I didn't know he was a deadhead. This band really plays the dead well, they picked up on the early 70s Americana feel, especially with the pedal steel
Didn't listen to Tyler much before this... Saw him live here. My cousin told me to check him out before but I had some other things in line to check out first and forgot. Man did I make a mistake.....I cannot stop listening to him now.. Ridiculously good.
Well, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion... Not saying at all that he's not really good but I really like The Dead's cover of this song too... Of course, being a Dead Head, my opinion may be juuuuust a little partial lol...
That was a great concert! Tyler Childers and Charley Crockett were outstanding. I couldn't for the life of me understand how Tyler wore a jean jacket at this show? It was unbelievably HOT that day...like 95 degrees when he came on. Half the crowd left after Tyler finished his set.
I listen to him alot n more n more also that ole whiskey Myers n I'm happy to say a new friend told me about them said he grew up with them or knew them n he can play the hell out of a guitar . Glad he told me bout these guys great musicians n I'm sure good people
Way to absolutely CRUSH it!! This had me looking into the origins of the song, I got to see “The Dead” live at the forum and this song aka water “pump song” didn’t make the set list. Such a Great rhythm and stoked to dig into it more thanks to y’all , this tune seems to be on a continuing path of evolving ….”stay like water my friends” haha. From the beginning taking many forms with a changing title and changing lyrics. “Left hand my friends” !! Great addition Tyler and crew !!
Oh my, this is a hell of a cover, Tyler & crew!! Great job!! Your energy just gets my feet and legs moving, so awesome! Let's see some more GD covers in your future PLEASE
The girl that yells “that’s the name of the town we are in” is legendary.
Tyler Childers covering The Grateful Dead is the best collision of musical universes. This is frickin’ great.
This is actually a old traditional song that Bobby learned in folk circles and then the dead picked up when Bobby brought it to Jerry but none the less it’s basically a dead tune at this point well near known through them
But o truly agree Tyler covers this is amazing from a fellow dead to another much love
The shear, raw, almost aggressive emotion in his face gives me chills. By far my favorite artist!
He means what he says. I think the best way to describe it is pure conviction.
Mfr spitting
Cheers to CJ Cain for takings a load off on acoustic guitar!
The spirit clearly was present
Yes his performance is pure fire!! I enjoy watching him as much as I enjoy listening to him sing!!
The way he introduces the band cracks me up. “He enjoys long walks on the beach, but he cannot stand long walks to get there”. Lol too much
I’ve seen my share of Dead covers but MAN he killed this
This man is one an entirely different level of greatness!
He preaches the tune!
Better then the original version!!! Lol
Yea dude. That delivery.
My favorite singer/song writer of all time!!!
dude's a ripper for sure.
Fully agree, he is really commanding the stage now. Feeling it
Singer, songwriter and looks like a hell of a performer
Tylers stage presence is just unmatched. You can see hiim and feel him but it's still indescribable to me. All that energy pent up in side of him just waiting to unleash like Armageddon.
Sprit of the lord.
The new sober Tyler is like a part two to his career…we already got the best catalog out there from him. Hopefully part two is even more amazing and with this new album it looks like it’s gonna be
Didn't know he was a Lil under the weather at some point I know the feeling it's a mf
I thought Isbell’s best stuff was behind him when he got sober. Boy was I wrong about that.
Playing the same with Tyler - plus some more GD 🎉
Why does he keep whipping his nose? I hope he is sober but there are many signs that he is not..Johnny Cash and Waylon said they were sober many times, but they were not until many years later

I would go wherever I had to go to see Tyler Childers cover old rock songs, man this is off the chain.
There's never been a better performance of this song.
Old old old school deadhead here and…you’re right.
It's been two days and I can't stop coming back to listen to this? There's drugs in this chorus, I swear. One of those songs you feel in your entire body. The way Tyler is is feeling the energy of every single word, I get it now. I'm dancing the same exact way at my desk now every time I hear it.
I'm so obsessed with this performance.
"You can't close the door, when the walls cave in...." Makes me miss Jerry belting that out with Bobby even more. Props to TTC for this version.
Best thing I've ever heard, Tyler belting out my favorite Dead song!
Dude on bass was killing it!! Damn he was good.
A lot of people in here might not want to hear this, but there is something very Eddie Vedder about his growth and stage presence. He's gone from almost shy, to being a front man. 👍👍
Totally agree. Great observation
You can tell he’s getting bored with it all. That’s the constant change in genres and the goofy mess on stage he’s just enjoying himself
We need this on a future album!!!
Man just greatness is all I can say,I could watch Tyler over and over and love it even more everytime, him on stage versus million dollar videos and main stream artists,...take him and a guitar any day....
Tyler is taking over and literally CRUSHING everyone behind him. Heck. Everyone inFRONT of him.
This Kentucky guy sure can write a good song and performer too great singer he's got the pipes great artist
Not his song
I feel confident in saying that I’ve seen this video over 500 times. I can’t get enough. You deserve a Nobel peace prize for recording this.
I love his version of this song, I really hope he adds it to the repertoire!
This concert would have made a awesome live album. He was able to make the songs his own while paying respect to those who wrote and recorded them.
I listen to this too much. Great stuff. You can totally hear the dead influence on Tyler’s latest.
Dude he reminds me of the way Brent Mydland would sing these songs sometimes.
never heard of this guy but this is one of the best Dead covers I've ever heard. Very impressive!
Tyler Childers is a real class act...what a real, down home, genuine decent hillbilly boy... Talented, articulate, intelligent, unassuming, full of the grace of God and unashamed... and easy on the eyes to top the whole thing off.. what a beautiful creation... tyG
Hey how are you doing?
This performance really makes me feel something. That’s a hell of a band he has. MOSES CAME RIDIN UP ON A QUASAR
Check him out singing this with Bob Weir and the Wolf Bros as a guest. Incredible! Still listening to it!
My goodness…just absolutely ripped it. What a great performance.
Wow this is smokin’!
I bet Bob would love it.
There’s a video of him with Bob Weir doing this song!
Tyler was at both nights of Wolf Bros at Radio City
good grief - I've come back to watch this so many times.
As a longtime dead head I approve this message 👌 good work lads
Tyler is sure looking good and sounding strong! Love this
Didn't listen to Tyler much before this... Saw him live here.
My cousin told me to check him out before but I had some other things in line to check out first and forgot.
Man did I make a mistake.....I cannot stop listening to him now..
Ridiculously good.
honey for the vocals
Best cover of this song I have ever heard (in my humble opinion :)
I wish he would do a version of copperhead road!
Bob and Jerry would be ecstatic for this MAN covering their song.
He's done it with Bob before!
Love his music
My favorite artist. Thank you for this.
I absolutely love this man's voice and energy! The band sounds SO good.
Thank you for posting this
Not many folks can put the Dead to shame but Tyler sure did....awesome job man
Well, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion...
Not saying at all that he's not really good but I really like The Dead's cover of this song too...
Of course, being a Dead Head, my opinion may be juuuuust a little partial lol...
to shame? not sure I agree.
@@dixondjallen6620 The Dead didn’t cover this song. They wrote it.

One of the greatest artists ever!
My favorite artist! Raw talent and real soul!
Can’t believe people left this show disappointed because he didn’t play his mainstream songs….
Would’ve killed to see this performance man
I wouldn’t disagree entirely. But he’s not around here often and hearing maybe 1-2 of the hits would’ve been awesome.
I was there 12 rows back from stage, it was so hot that day, we all were wondering why he was wearing a jean jacket, overall great show
That was such a fun day
