      When you see phil looking at chester more so in the brazillian section hes like.we nailed ot perfection in motion.the instrumental section is i think the best most original section ever. On a par with steve hacket moment but the keyboards the claranet church sound is so dark and atomospheric like a watership down moment.the drums 1234 sounds like rain dripping off a willow tree the snth is moonlit clouds over a mountain mikes guitar is signifying a chaze the drums are like a tailway line at night with a cold wet wind.why did they cut this section out in the latter versions.

    Agreed. This is truly amazing. The conviction in Phil's voice is unparalleled with any other vocalist I've ever heard. You really believe every single word he's singing. And the band is just superb in their performance. I love this entire concert from start to finish. They just don't make bands like this anymore. Give me this over One Direction or Katy Perry or Justin Bieber any day of the week.
    Also, get off my lawn. Haha.

    I love this damn song! You just have to love the build-up in this song. It just starts off kind of somber and brooding and keeps building from there. Things really take off in the bridge and then the most power moment in the song, to me, comes when they go back into the main verse. It's all brought back into focus by Rutherford's guitar swell and Tony's main keys riff. The drumming is what makes the transition, though. It's so damn intense! Just an amazing song!

    • @dp92492
      @dp92492 Год назад +9

      Yes!! It's such a shame they cut this song short and go into Invisible Touch in their later tours. I totally forgot how amazing the build up is in this song, Phil's vocals, Rutherford and Stuermer, Chester... Just amazing.

      @@rrrrrrtt1 Some people are, I’m not. The music of today is nowhere near as good as this! Honestly it has been said many times, but the music of today sucks. The only music I like today are from classic bands that are releasing new albums and some artists that I find compelling, other than that, all I listen is stuff from the 70’s and 80’s, like Genesis/Phil’s solo work, Rush, Toto, Yes, Michael McDonald, Tears For Fears, Steely Dan, ABBA and others.

    I was the director for the live screens you see in this show, and my camera ops are doing the core of the show close-ups with supplemental cams for the wide stuff. I am not aware of who directed the laser disc show, but I suspect Jim Yukich, who did a lot of their videos at that time. More of my shows on youtube are Judas Priest, Sammy Hagar, and others I haven't found yet!

      In general I think the “plot” of the song is focused on someone who recognizes they have an addiction and desperately wants to end that addiction (whether it’s to cocaine, heroine, or some other drug isn’t clear to me). They are torn between the craving for the drug (e.g. “I got some money in my pocket about ready to burn”) and their desperate desire to break free from their addiction (e.g “Just get it away from me”). To me most of the lyrics seem focused on the desire to end the addiction.

    I was only 7, in Louisville KY. I wouldn't understand or appreciate this remarkable music until at least the early 90's of VH1, and songs like "Jesus He Knows Me."
    Of course, I had heard songs in the background my whole life, "That's All," "Invisible Touch" etc. I also didn't realize the difference between Genesis and his solo career.
    My point being, as I grew older, my appreciation for Phil and Genesis has only grown as such as my jealousy for the people who were able to attend shows like this one. When I watch this, I become entranced.

    1st July 1987, first of 4 hot, sultry and smoky nights at Wembley Stadium. I was there somewhere, four days after seeing Gabriel at Earl's Court and missing the last train home. Then after the Genesis gig, my mate and his sister missed the last train home because they went on ahead of me and got on the wrong tube train! i got home OK.

      Yes, I caught the 'So' Tour, too - just before at Earls Court. What a year! Live Aid in 85 reignited the thirst for big stadia gigs, that's for sure.

    Legendary song. Been a blast enjoying Phil's music, and what an inspiration he is with his music and Genesis. Wishing you all the best bud, and thank you for everything, and inspiring. One of my favorite tracks this is. Genesis is extremely under-rated, espically with this album and especially with this song. True masterpiece. With all my heart.

    AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! The words amazing, awesome, timeless do not do this song justice as well as it's sister song "In the air tonite". I mean how are you able to create 2 songs that people will be jamming out to 300 years from now? I'm 44 and I remember when these songs came out it was in the 80's on a very tacky cop tv show called Miami Vice and we were all blown away for years. Thank you so much Mr. Collins.

    I was a teenager when I saw/heard this extended version. I was stoned out of my mind and that instrumental interlude just took me to another place! I wasn't a stoned loser, went on to get my university degree and got a great job. But that instrumental interlude...man I'll never forget where it took my mind!
