From Cornwall, UK, I grew up on Cornish pasties, veggie ones since I went vegetarian in 1981. Every Cornish town has multiple pasty (Oggy) bakeries and shops.
I'm a born and raised Cornishman ..... and I'm not a purist !! It's so nice to see the next generation of "pasties" ..... Miners from Cornwall brought the Pasty with them. These aren't traditional "Cornish" pasties .... but are traditional Michigan pasties !! The "Jamaican beef patty" is also another generation of a pasty ...... brought to Jamaica by Cornish miners ..... then the locals redesigned to suit their tastes, There is really no right or wrong ....... as long as you don't call it a "Cornish Pasty" .....
Wow, did this bring back the memories. My dad's family were miners up in Ishpeming , MI. Grew up eating the pasty. This is a piece of home for me. During the war we had a boarding house in Detroit for the factory workers, and Mom made the pasty for them as well.
For all the times I dove thru the UP, I wish I had known the restaurant was there, some make pasties, and then there is THE Pasty. Ive been making pasties for as long as I can remember, I shared them with my wife 8 years ago when we met...she had never heard of one!! Now we make them almost every holiday ;)
Wife & I always get 2 on our way through, at the West Ishpeming shop. My wife orders 2 Cudighi also from cell pH when we are about 15 min west of town. Our once a year treat.
I grew up in Rock. Live near Detroit many years. Have lots of family up there. I watched the channel from the college NMU(call letters?), WLUC, and WJMN. This makes me hungry for pasty ! Btw NOT a troll, TRANSPLANTED Yooper.
In Cornwall UK, the original Cornish Pasty recipe uses skirt beef ( diaphragm). I am Cornish, but because I live outside Cornwall, I can’t call the pasties I make, Cornish.
I saw a lady making them today on Utube.. 9 is what came out. Bit didn't look as nice! I don't know what rutabaga look like.. I made filling almost same but my dough was hard not happy with my results but I am gonna try hard till I get it right . Thank you for your video!!
Try not to handle your dough too much with your hands...heat form your hands activate the shortening or lard and makes your dough hard and not easy to roll out...that was my problem for years...
It is. Look up the definition of a pasty. They are called different names all over the world. It is just pastry with a savory filling. They are not Cornish pasties. They never said they were. They are Michigan pasties.
Fascinating. Thank you for the work and content.

So I'm guessing your ancestors are Cornish then?

I was born in marquette, grew up eating pasties. To this day I order them from Lowerys, always delicious.

sad life cringe.
I grew up on the best pasties in Minnesota...my mother had the perfect recipe which was later used by others...like the crooked carlsons. ⚡👁️
it's hard work, it's baking and cooking.

Can't beat a Cornish pasty
In Cornwall UK, the original Cornish Pasty recipe uses skirt beef ( diaphragm). I am Cornish, but because I live outside Cornwall, I can’t call the pasties I make, Cornish.
We just left the UP and they were closed today😒

Sorry, that is not a Pastie.
I know Frank, but come on we’ve all seen a lot worse! 🏴☠️😄🇬🇧👍🏻
How is that not a pasty?
pasty singular spelling-pasties plural.....

Road trip! Where in the hell is Marquette?
My Grandpa was the Sheriff in Marquette in the 50's to the 70's.
While Gramma Bruneau (RIP) made the world's best Pasties, these are a very close second!
OMG get some gravy! What is wrong with you? LOL
I would have pick BBQ to dip it in or Ranch.
Better microphones might have been a good idea. But I'm sure they already know that. I can barely hear either woman
NO no no! Always HP sauce (brown sauce!)
That girl cant eat no pasty. Mash it up and pour that ketchup all over it girl.
Isn’t it “pastie” ?
pasty is singular and pasties is for more than one
@@biodeb2 Yah.
NO.....
@@biodeb2 also known as PLURAL......
Only if a stripper is involved. But that is something altogether different. 🙂
This is not a good Pasty, it shouldn't have ground beef, it should have skirt or steak in it and egg wash on the pastry.
