Starship Troopers would be a great palate cleanser for this. Same director from the original Robocop, ultra violent and satirical, and the effects hold up surprisingly well for a 1997 movie.

Never noticed that before ... That's not a hammer, it's a bullet puller. It's for removing an unfired bullet from the brass case. The large end is a cap that tightens a collet around the rim of the casing then you strike a surface with the narrow end until the bullet slides out, keeping the bullet and powder contained inside the head of the tool.
Weird to see it used here as a prop hammer. My guess is someone stole it from the set's weapon master/armorer, they would find use for it in making dummy rounds.
...hope they gave it back after the scene.

This movie is goofy but I still like it for what it is, as a guilty pleasure. I think this movie hits me more emotionally in some parts, whereas RoboCop 2 doesn't hit emotionally at all, that one is just straight action. Also, the music in part 3 is much better than in part 2. Robert John Burke also did a pretty good job as Robo, he's the second best after Weller that has done the role.

    • @007odc

You seem to have a biased against the second film, you get more humanity from robocop in the 2 than 3…it still gave his human emotions….the music is subjective though i like both robocop 2 score aswell as the original of the 1st and 3rd film…but the heroic score of RB2 hits hard to me aswell

@@007odc The second movie had attempts of giving Murphy an emotional journey like a proper sequel but it immediately went nowhere. They established him trying to reconnect with his family but the movie doesn't do anything with it. There is a video I commented on RB2's deleted scenes and mentioned how they were gonna explore his human side much more to where he's self-loathing about his current life. Because the studio wanted more dumb action and less emotions. (Which was one of the reasons why Peter Weller didn't want to return.)
In this film, they actually explore RoboCop having many supportive friends and Dr. Lazarus being someone who stands up to the people at OCP with answers they stutter to respond back. And while I hate the little girl in this film, the emotional core is still strong with her parents dead and RC being a father figure. I also love how at the end of the movie, they finally ask if his name was Murphy, sort of signifying that they finally respect him as a human.

A thought that just came to me about Lewis' death.... Maybe it would've been more tragic/violent/messed up if she was taking cover behind Murphy, so she was safe from the gunfire, but then they shoot the grenade at Murphy's chest which sends him flying backwards and Lewis gets crushed between Murphy and a stone church wall behind her. A more brutal/unexpected death, makes McDagget even more ruthless, and it could've enraged/traumatized Murphy a bit more that his metal body was used to kill his best friend. Perhaps way too dark/brutal for PG-13, but it would've been a better death.

My brief history with the RoboCop films. Saw the original at age 8 shortly after it came out on VHS. Not exaggerating, that movie changed my life. It was the absolute coolest thing I'd ever seen. I've seen it hundreds of times since, and have picked up on so many more layers to it... that film just gets better and better over time.
Saw RoboCop 2 in theaters the summer it came out, I was 10. My first R rated movie in the theater. I absolutely loved it. The action. the violence, RoboCain. The coolest things a 10 year old could see. Over the years I've seen more and more of it's shortcomings, it's a good action flick, but nowhere near as good as the original. Still love it though.
I saw RoboCop 3 in the theaters when it came out. I was 13. The exact age they aimed this for, and I was let down. The awesomeness and bite of the previous movies were gone. They made it much more of a cartoon, and even at that age I could see the franchise was over. There are some emotional beats that are good in it, and the score is great, but besides that it was very lacking to me.

This movie suffered from the same problem the Robocop remake did. PG-13. If you want something more along the lines of what made Robocop awesome then I would suggest Starship Troopers (same director, pure satire, and better effects)

Since you asked, apparently the part of the new CEO was originally written for The Old Man. He was meant to be losing his temper and shouting and swearing like the new one. They ended up recasting the character and throwing in that one "former CEO" line to justify the actor change. I think that's probably for the best as it would feel too out of character for The Old Man even if he was watching everything he built fall apart.

Peter Weller was actually interested in coming back as ROBOCOP one last time, but had to drop out to star in the 1991 Sci Fi Psychological thriller Naked Lunch by David Cronenberg.

If you guys wondering why CEO the Old Man is not in part 3. Like Peter Weller. The actor did not like the script. But instead of recasting him like what they did to Robocop. They opt to kill the character off screen instead. Lewis only agreed to return if her character dies. & Will only return for 4th time if they resurrect character into a female Robocop. Which sadly did not happened as this movie bomb & no 4th movie was produced until the 2014 reboot.

there was, lets call it "THE ATTEMPT" - to explain the actor change, Robo got literally lit up and burned, by the splatter punks, so under his helmet the skin cooked to an unrecognizable blob, but since Robo skin is strapped over anyway, they replaced him with burke, who did a perfect job might i add with what he was given.

I would recommend the reboot for you two specifically because it heavily covers something you guys were wanting all trilogy long. It's not that bad of a movie, but it is definitely a different beast from the original. It'll make more sense when you watch it, but since you wanted Murphy's family so much you'll probably end up at the absolute worst you'll feel neutral about it. There's no way you'll outright hate it, but at least it'll give you something you were asking for from these movies.

The latest film is a remake which reverses all of the decisions and tone of the first movie. It adds big names, a charismatic-bore of a lead, and the mistake of the family. It's an overblown CGI mess of a movie. It just seems to get everything wrong with Robocop. You may like it, but this is a word of warning. There was a PG-TV Show in the 90s, it was fine for what it was, and another, darker 2000s series Prime Directives which was so cheap, the Robocop armour was a hand-me-down as it had permanent scuffs and scratches on it, but it did give us Robo-Cable. The original Robocop 2 script was both 2 & 3 combined, but was too expensive to make. Otto android was a stand-in for the Terminator, as the game Robocop vs Terminator was immensely successful at the time. Ironically, Peter Weller was meant to be in this, but had other filming obligations and was heavily changed. Once the film was completed, the film company put it on the shelf for a couple of years before release. It didn't save Canon films. They should have waited for Peter and gone with the original script!

You guys should definitely watch the 4 part R Rated RoboCop miniseries RoboCop: Prime Directives next! It's set 10 years later and it's technically the 4th and final RoboCop! And the ending of RoboCop Prime Directives is way better than the ending of RoboCop 3!! And it ties up all the left open plot points like Murphy's Family! RoboCop Prime Directives is not perfect but it's WAY BETTER than RoboCop 2 or 3 in my personal opinion.

@@TheCyber_Knight It's just my own personal opinion, but I consider there to be eight Robocop movies (not including the 2014 remake). There's the three movies released in cinemas - Robocop (1987), Robocop 2 (1990) and Robocop 3 (1993) - and the four Prime Directives movies - Robocop: Dark Justice, Robocop: Meltdown, Robocop: Resurrection, and Robocop: Crash and Burn (all 2001), but there's also the Canadian made-for-television movie Robocop: The Future of Law Enforcement (1994), which led to the live-action TV show Robocop: The Series (1994-95) getting greenlit, with the cast from the TV movie all reprising their roles.
It'll be easy to dismiss Robocop: The Future of Law Enforcement as just a feature length pilot episode, but it clearly had a larger budget than the subsequent series, and works perfectly well as a stand-alone, self-contained movie. When the final credits roll, the movie's main storyline and sub-plots are all resolved, there are no plot threads left dangling, and every character arc has reached a satisfactory conclusion. The movie was released individally on VHS (and later DVD) in many countries, and was actually re-titled 'Robocop 4: Law & Order' in some parts of the world.

Robocop 3 is a complete embarrassment to the franchise and cinema history! They could have made a great trilogy but no… they royally fucked it up.
I’m sure like me there’s millions worldwide who have tried to permanently delete this shamble from there memory

I've always said that about 2. I can barely remember anything about it, even with all the times I've seen it. I distinctly remember being disappointed that I managed to find 2 and watched it

@@TheKyrix82 look 2 is nothing like 1 but it still kept that dark grimy element but 3 is shit it’s nothing like either of them! Doesn’t have that Robocop essence or feel to it, it’s just a terrible cheap knockoff that failed miserably

@@D-DUB1980 Seemed to have exactly the Robocop feel to me. I don't need clever social commentary, nor do I particularly want it. I want to see a cyborg cop beat the bad guys. And I want the adventure to be dumb and fun
      1 and 3 delivered that
