    This was a bad time in my life. I was one of those laid off employees. Luckily my layoff only last 7 months. Hard to believe that was 12 years ago, the time from then has literally flew by. The service cuts then cause mass confusion and frustration. But New Yorkers are resilient and we dealt with it like champs.

      This also eventually caused MTA Long Island bus to become NICE bus after having their own cuts in 2010 and Nassau county (being the retards they are) not wanting to pay for the great services provided for them by the TA. Then a few years later, NICE started cutting their routes also due to lack of proper funding and closed down a Depot as well (which guaranteed said cuts) in 2017.

    In regards to the G train . I have lived in Greenpoint all my life and I would try to take the g to 67th avenue where my friends lived. From when the v train came into existence until the 2010 service cuts the g was notoriously known to never run to 71st continental. Every week there was a service disruption that truncated the g at court square at night. The g to me in essence was cut back when 63rd street tunnel opened to the queens Blvd line

    I honestly forgot about most of these cuts for a while up until a few years ago. I also think the (M) train got an improvement from these cuts. I honestly can say that I never used this train before 2010 because it was so far away from me but that all changed after they switched it to orange, it's easy access to the (J) line too. The 4th Ave portion of the old (M) line can easily be replaced with the (W) line if they do decide to extend it there. I'm not sure if they'll bring back (G) service to Forest Hills, although that'll be cool to see, but with the MTA, you never know what they plan to do. I just hope that they can get more funding for themselves and to expand service for all the lines.

    If the W were to disappear again, it would only be noticeable amongst the the Astoria residents because it really doesn’t have any independence. It always shares a stop with at least one line.
    I think everyone would like for the G train to return to Queens blvd.
    The M has always been Strange line. From back when it went from Brooklyn to Manhattan and back to Brooklyn. Now it comes almost a full circle from Middle Village to Forest Hills Queens which the two are not far from each other. The Q38 connects Middle Village to The Queens Mall at Woodhaven and I just want to know the point of that lol. I think the M would be a little more useful if (A) they went with the plan to send it to Rockaway Beach, or (B) travel with the F to 179 and hopefully extended further to the South east Queens transit desert area such as Hollis, Cambria Heights, QV etc.

      The only reason why the "W" exist is that the Brooklyn end of the "N" line does not need additional service. Unnecessary cost per ratio for an areas that doesn't need it. And how additional "N" service would impact both "Q" and "R" lines.
      The "W" also allows the "N" to serve as the express. And the most important thing about the "W", is that, because it ends in Manhattan, it is often the only one available along Broadway, when delays happened in Brooklyn. No other trunk lines is affected like this. The B/D has the F/M and than A/C lines. The 2/3 has the #1. And the 4/5 has the #6.
      Before the "W", there was nothing! Making this an extremely important line.
      Note: I hate that they switched the B/C northern terminals for this reason. Back in the day, they would send the "C" to the west 4th Street lower level to pick up "D" passengers going to the Bronx. Because the "D" and South Brooklyn trains were often delayed. They could use the "C" to Bedford Park.

    • @calvinkendrick851
      @calvinkendrick851 Год назад

      @@qolspony yeah with that being said, the W can be seen as a great support or back up for Manhattan service if the others such as the N, Q and R trains get stuck in Brooklyn and also allows for the N and Q to run express (especially the Q being so fast)
      But on days where there’s no delays aren’t the R and eventually the N (from Canal Street) already running local up to 59th street? I just checked right now and there aren’t any Ws running. And when I ride the 4/5 lines and listen to the transfer announcements at 14th street and maybe even 59th street, I noticed they leave out the W. They never put updated the announcements ever since the W was put back in the system. But unfortunately should they any time decide to cut a couple of lines, the W might be among the first to go.
      And I agree, I don’t like the northern terminus for the B and C. That’s great that they sent the C to the lower west 4th street platform for the D passengers, and it makes most sense since the B and C eventually run local together between Columbus Circle and 125th street. Yeah a great terminus for the C would be Bedford Park, but then the A would need to make those 2 local stops between 145th street and 168th street. Either way, ending the B train at 145th street doesn’t give it much value.

    • @qolspony
      @qolspony Год назад

      @@calvinkendrick851 Indeed. The "Q" is not only fast, it is the most important line in South Brooklyn, because of the amount of people who use it.
      As for "W" service, it only exist because of the popularity of the northern leg of the "N" line. If that should ever become unpopular or passengers find a better alternative, like building another train line in the area, than it's probably here to stay.
      I also agreed with your statement about the B/C lines. We don't even have to go back far in history, to prove this as fact.
      During the dark days of the NYC subway system, both the B and C were rush hour only services. There use to be a line called the "AA" (eventually turning into the "K" because MTA new rules against double letter signage) that offer what they classified as "parttime" service. It simply meant that it did not operate during rush hours, nights (12a/6a), but it operated o the weekends. It was so bad that it uses only 60ft 4 car trainsets. So passengers who weren't position correctly, were seen running for the train, even if they were already on the platform. But at least reliable and fast, I guest.
      Because of this arraignment, this forced the "A" to make that long local trek along Fulton Street Brooklyn. The Dark days of the NYC subway. And often times, people would joke about flying out of JFK and getting to their destination faster than the "A" train. And often times certain passengers would use the JFK express just to cut their commute time. Which is probably why the service exist as long as it did.
      When the MTA decided to extend the hours of the "C" and "B" services (note: there was a 6th Avenue to 57th Street all day weekday service, while another B served Central Park West local to 168th Street rush hours as a 6th Avenue Express), they 1, they greatly improved the running time for the "A", which became the express and 2, they made the JFK useless.
      Before this change, living on both the Lefferts Blvd and Far Rockaway end of the line I could attest to how frustrating this was. But Lefferts Blvd at least gave me an option, without paying an extra fare that I did with the LIRR. Because I lived between the "A" and "J" lines (I was a little closer to the "A" line) , I could opt for either or.
      I prefer the "A" during rush hours. It was the express. I could get a seat during rush hours, because I was at a terminal station. And never really got that crowded.
      But outside rush hours was dreaded. So the extra walk that I needed to make from the "J" train station was worth it. Because I could get a faster ride with the "E".
      I was so lucky to have been living in this area at this time, because it hadn't been long since they connected the "E" with the "J" (1990/2).
      Anyway, to make a long story short, from an operation standpoint, they switch the terminals. The B/D uses the same car sets.
      And just like they terminate the "B" at 145th Street, they did the same with the "C". But as already mentioned, the difference was operational flexibility.

    Also with the population boom in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Long Island City and Astoria it would move people better between Qblvd and the waterfront neighborhoods previously mentioned. As far as the W is concerned it should go to Kings Hwy Sea Beach instead of 9th Ave west end(Weekdays Only). Kings hwy has a tower and dispatcher office to turn trains during GOs. Therefore it'll take pressure off of Murphy and Stillwell towers and the W would be an asset when queens blvd blows up and messes up the R service.

    The brown M, I believe used to run as an express, on West End, where the D, N and R currently run. It interlined with the B, which used to run where the D runs today when it goes off West End. It terminated at 9 Av., I believe, if I'm not getting the station wrong, and Bay Pkwy. during rush hours. It did not do this in 2010, but it did go to Bay Pkwy. during rush. I also think you should do a video on duplicate subway lines (Orange and yellow B for example) and more content like this on periods of major changes, (9/11, Manhattan Bridge Reconstruction, Coney Island Reconstruction, if that counts etc.). I think west end express service would be extremely beneficial to any south Brooklyn rider. Especially that south bound D trains run quite slow starting from 36th street. The above ground tracks have a middle track and wouldn’t interfere with any other service on west end for peak direction express. This express service would cut commute times heavily for southern Brooklyn riders. IMHO, the W should take over the former brown M route in south Brooklyn. The current M is very good, but doesn't live up to its full potential. IMHO, it should run to Forest Hills 7 days a week.

      I'm sure the MTA wants to run it 7 days a week, but it barely has enough operators to do weekend service, even with other more important lines. At one point, they had called me all the way to Brooklyn to run the M weekend service between Metropolitan and Chambers, and it was only me and another guy running the service for about 8 hours. Literally, just back and forth. 😭😭😭.

    Goodmorning sir. The G had gotten Cut in 2001 if I'm mistaken when The MTA had made the V to relpace the old F Train witch use share the Queens Plaza and 23 Ely ave aka Court Sq Stop Lex 53 st and 5ave 53 st with the E back in days. But once The MTA had switch The F-train to run along 21 st Queens Bridge 🌉 st R.I and 63 st lex and 57 st 6ve line and it switch back to normal run down 6 ave . The MTA needed more service to help out E line and R sense The G got cut and F got rerouted. They Made changes to M line also the M use to from Metro ave and Queens to Board st Manhattan or at Rush hours it use to go to Bay Park Brooklyn along 4 ave line. But The MTA had cut that. But M still serves where V use go but accpet the second ave subway st in Manhattan. But like old V it only gose along to 71 ave during the week days like the old V. Use to why cant the Train go to Second ave like V . But on weekends And yes the M just like the and J/ Z can only use 8 subway cars due to Willamsbrug Bridge 🌉 and due to sharp turn along there routes. Now for Buses lines that got cut maybe when city dose the Nyc Bus make some might up coming back. But this what MTA should do to the M train 🚉 . Extend it to 179 st in Jamaica to let the go Exp.

    One service change because of the budget cut occurred on the Staten Island Railway. From 2001 until 2009, SIR trains ran to the Richmond County Bank Ballpark (Now called SIUH Community Park) during days that the Staten Island Yankees played home games at the stadium. However because of you know what, the station was shuttered in 2010 and when he only way to get there was by walking from the Saint George terminal to the stadium or by taking one of the buses from St. George to the stadium for the game. While renovating and reopening the station for service to the ballpark during events is probably not the most feasible decision for the MTA to make as it is located within walking distance of Saint George, it surely would be an interesting edition, especially now since the new Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League started play earlier this year. If the MTA decides to provide dedicated transportation to the stadium during special events, a bus service that makes a few stops around the Saint George neighborhood before terminating at the Stadium would probably be the most viable option.

    To be fair, before the V got eliminated, I think there were talks about having the V get extended pass 2 Ave to Church Ave and have the F run express all day. This would of allowed the G to get extended to Church Ave along with the V. I could think if this did happen like around 2007 or 2008, then it would of been like this;
    F - Culver Express(Jay St-Church Av), except late nights and weekends. Local stops in Brooklyn during late nights and weekends since the V was only a weekday line
    G & V - Culver local
    I’m not sure if they would of reopened the Bergen St lower level, but if that were the case, then it probably would of had to lead to making the entire Bergen St station(Upper and Lower level) fully accessible. Tell me your thoughts anyone.

    I think the G returning to Queens Blvd is a great idea. However, instead of having it terminate at Continental Avenue, I would prefer the G to instead run to either Jamaica Center or 179 St.
    The W should also be extended to Brooklyn full-time, however instead of sending it to West End my preferences say it should run to Bay Ridge - 95 St instead.
    If we’re talking about extra service along West End, I propose Z service being cut completely between Jamaica Center and Chambers Street. The Z can instead regularly run between Chambers Street in Manhattan to Bay Parkway. The J can serve all stations in Brooklyn and Queens while also eliminating skip-stop service.

    I really wish to see the V return. The MTA was able to resurrect the W, but it sadly hasn’t done the same with the V.
    I think if they were to bring the V back, they would have it terminate with the F at Jamaica-179th Street in Queens, and then have it run along the 63rd Street Line, rerouting the F to run with the E on the 53rd Street Line like it did in the 1990’s. Its southern terminal station would be 2nd Av, but on rush hours it’ll run to Brooklyn, where after Jay Street-Metrotech, it’ll split off from the F and run on the Fulton Street line as a local train with the C, terminating at Euclid Avenue.
    With Euclid Av as the V’s terminal station during rush hours, the C would be extended to Lefferts, replacing the A. I honestly thought it was odd how the C was completely enclosed by the A, so I would like to see the C split from the A and have its own terminal station at Lefferts Boulevard.
    As for the M? I don’t know. I guess for the time being they should reinstate the pre-2010 M service.

      Bringing back the Brown M would be a complete waste of resources and will not benefit any rider whatsoever, especially with other options available in Brooklyn and the popularity of Midtown service for Northern Brooklyn residents. If anything, they should just decrease J train service to allow for more M train service to operate.

      @@Jay2Fire42 That’s not really true as the Orange M is not really a waste as well. And besides, just because it goes in a loop from Queens to Queens doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense. There are numerous rail lines built similar to that method. For example: the Washington DC Red Line goes from Montgomery County, Maryland, goes though Washington DC and loops back though Montgomery County ending a few miles from where it started. Despite this, you’re not complaining about it and the Red Line is one of the most heavily used lines in DC.

      @@TheRailLeaguer Yeah I hear what you saying but were not talking about other trains from other places were talking about the NYC subway. • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer Год назад

      @@Jay2Fire42 That still doesn’t invalidate the argument. Besides, you saying that current M route is useless is like also saying the DC Red Line is useless, despite both lines being heavily used seeing increased ridership.
      Also the shape of the line does not determine if the line is a waste or not. Despite the M being a “loop”, ridership has increased by 53% over much of the two decades, except in late 2017-early 2018 when service was disrupted to prepare for Canarsie Line disruptions. In contrast, ridership on the Brown M and service to Lower Manhattan and southern Brooklyn in general has stagnated or even declined (no wonder the MTA planned to decrease J train service to make room for more M train service). As a result, the new change is a success.
      Perhaps as a compromise, what they can do is to not bring back the Brown M, but rather decrease J train service to make room for increased M train service. Service will operate at 14 trains per hour, similar to the F train. This will allow for additional M train service to operate between Manhattan and Brooklyn.
      On weekends, M trains will continue to operate as a shuttle between Metropolitan Avenue and Essex Street. However, some trains will continue along the Nassau Street Line to Broad Street, and then along the 4th Avenue Line to 95th Street. But here’s the catch: south of Essex Street, trains will be pick-up only northbound and drop-off only southbound, stopping only at Chambers Street and Broad Street. Between Broad Street and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center, passengers will not be allowed to ride. Oh the trains will be stopping at all stations and the doors will open, but only transit workers and cops will be allowed to ride between the points. South of Atlantic Avenue, M trains will be pick-up only northbound and drop-off only southbound, stopping only at 36th Street, 59th Street, 86th Street, and 95th Street. An alternative option would be to operate this via the West End Line to Coney Island-Stilwell Avenue, stopping only at Bay Parkway. This will allow for 4th Avenue riders at select stops to ride to/from Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center, where riders can transfer to the 2, 3, 4, and R trains to Lower Manhattan. All the benefits of the Brown M, but without the waste.

    3:43 You have a misspelling (TSW 3 community UK based Misspelt) there for Astoria Dickmars it's correct name is Queens Astoria Ditmars Blvd as said by N,Q,R & W trains announcer Catherine Cowdry the MTA equivalent to HMA Train Sim World Helga Bayertz DB BR423. For the W train why not give it R211Ts during the Rush Hours extended to 86th Street Sea Beach Line via 4th ave local or end at Bay Parkway West End line like the Brown M. One thing that the Orange M train offers over the V train is that you can avoid the 59th st IRT East Side Line OOS to 63rd St for F train. In that situation stay on the 6 train then get off at 51st for M train for 6th ave bound passenger. My Mom did this routing 6 train to 125th from Buhre Ave 4 or 5 trains to 86th st from 125th st then 6 train for 86th-51st for M train. Disadvantage of the M train is that from 71st ave to Myrtle Ave the Q38 is the shorter way to go between the two
    G to QBL can work during the Late Nights because most local riders will stuff the E train late night local from 45th Road Court Square to Forrest Hills 71st ave due to no M & R train local service weekends help the R train due to no M train service. G train late lights this will need R211T 4040

    I miss the "" on West End. The headways down there for the "D" are pretty bad. I feel that with population growth the service would be more appreciated. The "G" on QBL would be a great improvement.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 3 месяца назад

      Train frequencies in the D route can be increased, and that’s without bringing back the M on West End (and thus negatively impacting service between Northern Brooklyn and Midtown Manhattan).
      One of my favorite alternatives is adding two new switches south of 36th Street between the local and express tracks. Then swap the D and R routes south of there so that the R route goes via West End and the D makes local stops to 95th Street. The W would then be extended from Whitehall Street to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue via West End. Switching the route on West End from the D to the R would provide extra service on the West End Line, while D train see ice would provide faster service between Bay Ridge and Manhattan.

    Nice video. Btw I say for the W at 3:20 to build the red hook extension. It will cause the least interlining and allow people living near the proposed extension to have a direct link to Manhattan without detouring through Downtown Brooklyn.
    Down side is that extensions are expensive and that this shouldn’t be a priority.

      1 extension to Red Hook is better, running the W there limits capacity on 4th Ave.

      @@TMC_BC I agree with that! I don’t see any positives on using the W for an extension to Red Hook when it can help out the R in Brooklyn. The 1 train is a better option. If possible call me crazy but we can bring the 9 back(minus skip-stop service) and that can run from Van Cortland Park 242 St - Red Hook on weekdays, except late nights and weekends. I would make the 1 terminate at the South Ferry loop(if it’s possible to reopen it) and during late nights and weekends, it can run to Red Hook replacing the 9 at those times.
      Or plan B; just extend the 1 and don’t bring the 9 back. I like plan A even though it seems a little over the top on returning the 9.

      I think when it comes to an extension to Red Hook, that role should be given to the 1.
      If anything, I’d like to see the W be extended via a new branch to Brooklyn, connecting to Court Street (currently the New York Transit Museum. The museum can be relocated to a newly constructed replica of the station next to the current one, if possible), before having it run to Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets, where it’ll meet up with the A and C, and run local with the C up to Euclid Avenue, where it’ll terminate. The C can be extended to Lefferts Boulevard, replacing the A.

    • @TMC_BC
      @TMC_BC Год назад

      @@VinceHere98 I think the W can just be killed, with de-interlining as the alternative. The Rockaway Branch would be abandoned from Rockaway Blvd to Broad Channel, and LIRR service would continue to Rockaway Park, once those tracks are reclassified. A trains will only terminate at Lefferts.
