  • I’ve always wanted to know how to take rooftop photos in Tokyo so I’m so glad I got the chance to go on this little photo adventure! I’m still so surprised at the photos I was able to get (being an almost complete photography novice).
Thanks so much to Norm (Tokyo Lens) for inviting me and Lucasz for showing us around. Such an amazing idea :)

Not particularly interested in the photography aspect of the video, but the urban exploration was great! This is a much different perspective of the city that I havnt seen anywhere else. I would love to spend countless nights slipping through the alleys of tokyo, climbing the rooftops, and absorbing the nightlife.

Im always fascinated by the contrast in large cities between the new, fresh, lively areas and the old, decaying, quiet areas. I feel like big cities are constantly creating their own mythologies at a pace thats not even perceivable to most people. But some people are lucky enough to catch glimpses of the changing cityscapes and create amazing stories.

Wow, this is my kind of ‘tour’. Super interesting and the shots, both stills and video, are unbelievable! Thanks, my first Q was going to be whether or not these places are publicly accessible or if you had to carry bribe mochi.
Thank you so very much for making and sharing this.

Here’s everything this video brought to mind. The views of the video were awesome to see, and gives the obvious reason the city scapes amine have. The one that comes to mind is GITS. First off nothing to do with the shoot is your hair style in this video reminded me of the anime character Motoko Kusenagi of the ARISE series prior to her becoming the Major, except for the color. The shots at the end of this video and the way you set them up made think of two things. One, the story I heard on the news a couple of weeks ago of people falling to their deaths from trying to get the best angle for a selfie. Second, is those shots again reminded me of the anime GITS iconic shot of the Major dropping down off the build while looking up and vanishing as she activates her ability to camouflage herself from the Stand Alone Complex series. You could have set up a shot to replicate that iconic image perfectly. Have the camera move upward to give the illusion you were falling. Maybe? This was a very fun video to watch. How these guys devised these tours is great and the fact you found them even more impressive, but I’m sure the internet helped in bringing you together.
An aside topic: first off I’m not trying to sell you on anything or promote it, but I just discovered a storage device and wondered if this is something you have in your gear. It’s a Seagate dji fly drive specifically devise to be portable and backup your drone footage quickly.

I have been waiting on Norm to feature this video, and so glad you got go along. Norm showed me a place in Ueno over the Yamanote line to get a good shot. Did I have my camera?.... nope. I will so have to do one when I visit again. Such a cool thing. I was looking for staircases like this when I was there, but did not find any open ones, and felt a little wrong going up them for fear of trouble. American's sneaking somewhere normally means they are up to no good.... Not me, but it is the few that ruin it for the many. So pretty, and love the pictures you featured.

    On a side note.....
That "white powder" must be scattered there on purpose, unless you can see that the walls/ceiling are crumbling.
It's scattered around places to easily check if someone has been using the area.

The problem is one of the guys says it’s probably asbestos and they just carry on. Any draft (door shutting etc) could potentially make the particles airborne. You can’t label it as undisturbed and it gives a poor message to impressionable viewers. Video should be re-edited to prevent this message from being spread.

I didn't get that much vertigo since you last bungeed with a selfie stick. Love your quieter opening montage. Also what lenses were you all using, especially the guys. Were they primes or zooms? I'm guessing a wide angle would distort the verticals too much.

Super random question, every so often I hear something that sounds like a didgeridoo in the background but it doesn't quite sound like the background music, it sounds like it's coming from the streets of Tokyo. (for example at 8:40 ~ish~). Am I crazy haha, what is that? (Also no irony that you're Australian haha)

  • @rudicci
    @rudicci 5 лет назад

Hi! Due to the amount of anime I watched as a kid (as a "kid"), I find this "Dark, grey and alley-ish" view of the city more in-line with what my initial view of Tokio was like... and I loved it. I assume drone flying on the city is a no no, so this is really cool to capture the real side of Tokio.
Question: I know that sadly you've had your fair share of bad situations on your solo travels, so I wanted to know how do you feel in Tokio related to some of the other places you've been to in terms of your safety? Take Care H!

"Where to take amazing ROOFTOP PHOTOS in Tokyo" - find out if you pay 80+ bucks. I do like the tour but avoid this kind of misleading titles please, you don't really share any info about the locations in this video or in the description.

    • @zam023

Shinbashi, she said it at the start. Don't try to mislead people by talking how other people are giving misleading info. If you want addresses to those buildings, they can't publish it obviously.

Building's emergency staircase is narrow and dangerous. Also be careful as there are many old buildings. If someone finds it, you will be reported to the police. Be careful. Let's be aware that shooting in the downtown area at night may be involved in a fight.

It's not an assumption. It's a fact. You are trespassing without permission. If they spot you and you seemed suspicious they have the full rights to report to the security sitting at the front desk on first floor. But then again, Japanese people tend to yield even if your excuse is not good enough...but that doesn't mean that you can recommend this type of activity as it can lead to a wrong understanding that it is completely ok to do it because it is not...It is obviously polite and right thing to inform them about it beforehand though (but highly likely you would be denied permission to shoot photos).

Darkwasabi 2 DARKWASABI is correct. Trespassing private owned building is crime in japan. Residence will not even hesitate to report to police. Encouraging tourist to do this is wrong in my opinion.
