Always saw this song in a darker tone, it makes me think of the worm grass, one of scariest forms of life you’ll ever encounter, a near mindless mass of tubes with no remorse, only unending hunger and no way to combat it, you either avoid it or die, perhaps they only used to grow in farm arrays but one thing is for sure, they’re certainly spreading...best to keep your distance, young slugcat
I know this plays in Farm Arrays, but I first heard it in outskirts, outside of monk/survivor spawn. It was Spearmaster entering pebbles’ and moon’s regions. I always hear it as leaving something dear behind. Especially it plays if you fall there from outer expanse-leaving something dear behind.
Revisiting the new addition of Survivor/Monk's old home in Outskirts as the Saint and hearing this gave me a true feeling of isolation. Once upon a time, there had been others here and before, one with a mission and others unintended. All that is left is an endless canopy of snow and ice, with this a lonely elegy to mourn a decaying world. A cold sanctuary forever in the distance.
Everything changed. You lost your family and now you have to survive alone in a world full of danger. You walked a long distance now, and as you look behind you, you see how far you have gone. You remember the old times, something maybe you'll never experience again.
It seems to fit rain world as a whole, but paints a much more desolate picture. A world nearly devoid of life and natural resources after the ancients harvested it. You have to go through emptied ruins, desperately searching for food. And rather than the threat being rain or predation, it is simply the threat of starving, as there is barely enough nutrition for what little life survives. "Smells like emptiness"
The name distance makes me think of this song in the context of quarantine. I’ve listened to this song while having conversations with my friends and it really sets a melancholy mood. Reflecting on the past and gripping with the present, being stuck in a bubble while the world is in chaos. The weird thing is it’s not that depressing it’s more zen then anything. It really earned the name Distance, since it always reminds me of the distance away from everyone I care about, and normal life in general.
When I hear this piece, it makes me think of Five Pebbles alone in his can hoping to find answers that aren't there while the rot continues to spread. It makes me think of Looks to the Moon sat alone to repeatedly suffer the force of the rain, alive, yet not really living. It makes me think of the wonderous structures the Ancients built, now left to ruin and decay. Their world has been abandoned and it's falling apart. "Reflecting on the past and gripping with the present, being stuck in a bubble while the world is in chaos." Now imagine how the iterators must feel. The title is not about physical distance, but rather the distance of time between the Ancients peak, when the iterators had cities to run, full societies of people to help, and the abandoned, disconnected world they're left with. Regret, Contemplation, Reminiscense, perhaps even Acceptance. This games music is so emotional I could cry.
It was a truly magical moment when it played during my rivulet run. This is the end, you may not go further. You cannot check where the survivor came from. It is a quite sorrowful atmosphere that encapsulates the essence of Rain World perfectly.
@@jcdenton6427 By the way, I uploaded the moment to YT. It really felt the need the let the song play out. Fittingly, the rain set in when it ended. ruclips.net/video/Otba9kmNeok/видео.html ruclips.net/video/eQ3kimbCjbM/видео.html

Once, an infant Slugcat wandered through the damp catacombs of the root intake they fell into. Scared, cold and for the first time, alone.. they called out for their parents. That was many cycles ago, now as an Adult, the Slugcat finds themselves back here, maybe it’s a sort of nostalgia? Or just.. there’s nothing really worth while to go back too anymore, the tree is empty. and there’s only you. and your sibling, and the lingering thought that things will never be the same again Wherever your family is now, they have all gone the Distance. And they’ll never come back.
Oh, you mean, it plays when you get here from Outer Expanse? Yeah, i remember i heard that, though i completely forgot about it. I also know that it played before in the Arid Barrens modded region. But that's an old story.
two words Rain Deer The atmosphere is great, the AI for the Rain Deer is horrible though, they never go where they need to and crossing most of the longer parts of the farm arrays can be agonizing because of it.
I understand why people dislike it, but I really like the area. It kind of feels like the game giving you (or the slugcat) one final break from all the hardships its faced in its struggle for release before ascension, cus most of the time spent in farm arrays is just chilling out waiting for deer. The music really adds to that vibe for me
And I hve looped it for hours! Wrote this comment at the time of finishing up writing a long rainworld fanfiction thing of mine. Made promise to continue it and at the initial thought of doing so I did, but motivation slowly drained away. Ended up procrastinating for a year (huh?? Wow) and this music really helped me concentrate after being motivated suddenly :). The story still goes unfinished but I finally continued it along to the music, writing a few more chapters which was more than I had done in a while!
i just realized the melody is very similar to emotion thread, and it plays in the same region, just pretty much on the other side of it, could the meaning behind the name "distance" be that, although the end is within sight, it's still a long way ahead and when you get to the other side of farm arrays emotion thread is more relieving that the journey through the enormous open fields of the farm arrays is over and you are just a few steps from the end?
When I hear this I always imagine the state of the world after the saint’s campaign. The world engrossed in a seemingly endless ice age. All plants and creatures gone to the frigid winds. Frozen constructs of stone and steel soon to be completely enveloped in blankets of white, but underneath the permafrost a new warmth grows.
for some reason i have started to listen to the more idk sad maybe tracks in rainworld and i cry to most of them. wait a sec, i got a thing: mom the music made me sad! can you stop them?

This fits really well with saint
beautiful song
I find it very relaxing, although it does have a few pops and crackles in it.
"I looked at my window, I saw the empty canopies of towers and clouds, and then that's when she self annihilated"
Is this a quote from the game?

The name of this song doesn't make you think of it in a context of quarantine, the actual quarantine makes you do so.
