learned a lot!! bought one and honestly had a hard time figuring stuff. Im not really well versed with the terms on the pad and this really helped me understand it. There’s so many things you can do wit it. Thanks!!
The great enabler for songwriters / performers / producers. I can midi my Roland v-drums, gat, bass and sequenced stuff from computer, like backing tracks, vocals, percussion. Amazing with or without my loop pedal. I use it to facilitate music tuition. I teach drumkit, percussion, vocals, guitar and music theory. A fun tool. Thanks Roland ..
Thanks for making an informative and succinct tutorial on this! I just got the new red one and am going to be delving into the sampling stuff soon. You seriously saved me a lot of time. You rock!
Hello, to anyone who might read this comment: Firstly this device seems pretty cool! I'm not really planning on buying it anytime soon because I don't need it, but I've heard the name "Roland SPD-SX" mentioned when reading about samplers/sample pads/whatever you want to call them. So I wanted to see this device in action, more out of curiosity than anything else. Now, for the reason I'm writing this comment: I have a question about this device, and I ask this primarily because I'm visually impaired (to the point of being completely blind). First let me provide some context for my question: I have an electronic drum kit (also made by Roland, but I'm not exactly sure which model it is). The kit works in such a way that the drum pads and the main control module are separate, so you have to connect them together with cables in order to use them (you know, like a typical electronic drum kit). But I've also heard of electronic drum kits where the drum pads and the control module are combined together, into a singular unit. In fact I actually have a (rather toy-like) electronic "drum kit" that I got when I was like 11 years old or something, and it works in this sort of way; the advantage with this is that it's very portable, because you only have one thing to pick up and move around with as apposed to having a separate control module and the drum pads, which is a bit of a nuisance to travel with. So I guess my question is, which of these 2 formats is the Roland SPD-SX in? Is it like a typical electronic drum kit where the control module and the pads are separate things to carry and move around, or is it more like my "toy" electronic drum kit with the pads and the module combined together? I would appreciate any replies I get, thanks y'all :)
ok this is trippy. I know her. how? because one day, when walking into guitar center (I work there) I find her back in drums tinkering on our displays. she was making sure our demo Roland equipment was functioning correctly. then she quizzed me on the things you can do with the octopad
This is very helpful. I have been asking around about the sampling capabilities and no answers. So this is very helpful - Great video and I have subscribed and will follow you now.
Hi Jordan, how are you? i am using the SPD SX for some time and it is a great tool on stage and in studio. i usually used the built-in click track up to now, but now i want to import my own click track and sync it with the internal click of the Roland SPD-SX. but: it is out of sync, it is slowlier and you can also hear it through the deeper tone of the tamborine... Turning off tempo sync via pad settings did not succeed. any ideas? appreciate your help greetings from Germany , Björn
It really would. I'm not a drummer, just a music producer so I know what sounds I like to use and what beats I want. So the reason I'm getting one (literally in my basket now) is because I want to make my own custom drum loops or just loops from my massive sample library... this allows you to essentially drum your loops and samples into an on time beat. So TLDR if you know how to time sounds, it's good for anyone who makes music!
I have a question: I have a 100 bpm percussion loop imported into a pad1. Anytime I hit pad 1 the loop will play and stop if I hit it again. Now I want to change the tempo of the loop, so I turn the tempo sync for pad1. While playing, I change the "click" tempo down to 80 bpm, the percussion loop seems to slow down but not accurate as 80. It doesn't match with the metronome click. I appreciate if you can help me to fix this issue...Thanks so much!
I’m considering buying this or the Alesis. Can this unit be used like I drum kit? I’m hoping to get a yes or no answer to this question. I specifically need to know if you can connect a hi hat pedal and play a hi hat sound like a hi hat... open, half open, and closed. Thank you.
Hello mam! Does roland sx pad contains any sounds(kit) basically or we have to intall sounds on it? And can it be played single(without combining with spd 20 pad or anything else)? Pls help me out ?
I'm having a hard time understanding what this machine is doing, it sounds like a fully recorded song is just playing, so why the need to hit the different pads?
I dont understand, sorry, to long out of the loop...so can u actually play a regular drum kit on this, or is it for just using phones with so u dont actually play on it

Yo, mine just shipped. Got it on sale on Labor Day. Excited to try it out.
OMG This was so helpful. I have been trying to figure out how to chop my samples. Thank you so much!
I connect the iPad via USB and can't get to sample, how did you connect in the Roland?
I think she just used an 1/8 aux cord from the iPad to a 1/4 inch to the spdsx and then chipped it up
the best SPDSX video yet! Thanks jordan

It's a standalone device in the same way your toy was

I love this feature is it available on the newer version the Roland SPD SX PRO?
no
Could you record a guitar or bass to live loop with this function? Can you record multiple things over the same patch?
Trying to figure out how to do this on the new pro model 🤔
Have you figured it out?

I'm in love! Thank you so much for this video it makes it allot easier.
I don't know jack about these electronic percussion pads. Can it be used to emulate the sound of tympani?
Is there anyway I can transfer tones from SPD 30 onto this? Are those tones available for download?
How are you connecting into the phone? It looks like a 1/4" cable, but is that dropped down to a 1/8" connection?
Very informative and easy to follow! Thanks!
How do you delete a sample on the spd sx basically i need a blank kit again , you seem real knowledgeable on this unit could you please help?
Would this be feasible for a non drummer to use? I cannot find something this awesome meant for hands. Thanks!

You clearly do not know how samplers work. It was pretty obvious what the machine was doing.
what is this song called?
Can I loop live vocals and guitar on it and keep it looping without having to hit it over and over ?
captainjaneway3000 yup just listen from 3:27 picture that riff as a vocal and set it to loop
