    I can't say I really noticed any difference with the extra weight after riding GP4000 and GP 4 Seasons on road biking. Ran 25mm, then tried 28mm when I got some new wheels, felt better but no slower in my times. Then tried 32mm on the rear and the feel was even better and again no slower. Finally changed the front to 32mm, in the end my old 28mm front gator lasted over 10,000 miles! My first 32mm Gator on the rear lasted 6,500 miles. Previously I have done well to get 4,500-5,000 miles. The wider ones last longer which was another benefit I had not expected. Where 32mm really come into their own compared to previous narrower Gators is they inspire so much confidence. British roads can be very bad especially in the countryside where I live and you really feel good at speed smashing through the rougher tarmac. They also inspire way more confidence on descending, I don't feel unstable or that I am going really fast then look at the Wahoo and realise I am going fast. If I am slower on these it might be slightly marginally on uphill but not so I had noticed, if I am its so marginal it is outweighed by the benefits. I am running the Hope factory built wheelset for rim brakes which uses a mavic rim and take a max 32mm tyre. If my rim could take a wider tyre I might even consider that except for the fact that my frame at the rear where the chain stays meet the BB would be too tight. I can run 32mm because the bike in other respects can run a wider tyre and had long 57mm drop brakes, and I don't use mudguards (fenders). I would not use anything else on this bike. For absolute bomb proof tyres that are even better, but are noticeably heavier there is the Schwalbe Marathon Plus, which I run at 28mm on a single speed, simply because with bolt fitted wheels I really really don't want to have to change a tube out on a ride. Those have never punctured on me ever in 8,000 miles since I fitted them. One last thing on the Gators is to keep an eye on mileage and the guide holes. If you push it past what is a good idea and use them worn out it will come back and bite you. I made that mistake once many years ago and the sidewall failed so the inner tube popped, it was like a gun going off !

      Don't know for the GP4000 but I currently ride GP5000 32 and Gator 32 alternately and I can say that there is a difference in rolling resistance against the Gator .
      It must be said that the GP 32mm is slightly narrower on the same rim than the Gator 32mm

    Looking for a pair of Gatorskin for christmas, 700x28 will be the perfect one for me due to the conditions of the road in my country (Peru, south america) so yeah, you totally convinced me. I really liked your video btw! Hope you will continue doing videos of road components, personally I am a fixed gear rider but it helped me a lot!

    I ride these on my road bike. Same size 700c by 25mm, Inflate them to 100psi rear and 95psi front. I weigh 180 pounds. I very rarely got a puncture in several hundred miles. Yes they have very good puncture protection and they last for a long time. Grip in the wet is not very good, beware, but on dry roads they're ok. 👍

      @@FitemeUrlnotIrlI recently reduced pressures and found them to ride better. For my weight, 180 pounds (approx. 80kgs) 90psi back and 85psi front is better.

    So these tires do in fact work well In punctuation resistance, but the grip I feel like I’m sliding all over the place, especially when going fast.

    Also you dont have to carry a puncture repair kit if you use puncture proof tires. I hate carrying extra stuff in my pockets while cycling.

    All your pros and reasons to run this tyres, you should drop them and use tannus tires
    I'm using them for 2 years now, yesterday I got a big ass nail stuck on them which would cause a big flat in your gator skin ones but for me was OK, took me a while to remove the nail since was stuck to the very bottom but once I did I resumed my ride like nothing happened 😂

    What do you think about kevlar tires?

  • @oi32df
    @oi32df Год назад

    Even if they are almost slick & if you have no skills on loose terrain they will be dangerous for you they are definitely more puncture resistant than dedicated gravel tires like Panaracers Gravel king ...king of punctures after only a thousand of miles . I prefer to be stirred with my Gator 700x32 ,cause not supple at all , than to have to change a tube in the middle of the woods with black flies . It's a shame Conti doesn't make a bigger version like 700x40

      I don't think I've ever ridden a Kenda road tire. For puncture protection though the Gatorskin or the Armadillo are going to be some of the best

    Gator skins are all hype. I ride 3500 miles a year and they puncture all the time. Road bike in the city and suburban. I get shards of glass all the time. It's all hype.

      Nope not true. I rarely get a puncture with Gators, I ride 80km per week average, so not a lot but still not insignificant. With other brands? One puncture every 3 or 4 rides 😫. This is from experience, not an opinion. But then again, it depends on where you ride. But one thing I say. If you get many punctures with Gators, you will get even more on other tires.

      @@radiocontrolled9181 how are you going to tell me that my experience is not true? I'm 53 years old and I've ridden on everything for 47 years, and I'm telling you my experience. I ride everyday rain or shine about a 160 mi a week, every week. I have BMX bikes road bikes track bikes, Gator does not perform any better. Don't get so but hurt about it.

      @@starwilkinson8020 About your statement 'Gatorskins are all hype'. I repeat that according to MY experience, it is not true. Have been riding them for 5 years. 80km per week that is 20,000km. Hurt? Lol 😆 I don't sell them. I just use them. Maybe the ones you got were defective.... try another set bruh.
