One thing worth mentioning is that these tires are directional, meaning they are only supposed to rotate in one direction, you don't want to put them on backward which is very easy to do. It tells you on the sidewall which way they are to rotate, but it is quite difficult to see. This guy has them on correctly though, but I almost missed it when installing mine.
hand made or not those tires seem be very good quality, i may have to buy some somtime, cause i keep gettting flats on my road bike, i also think the tires are bit wore, but anyways they sure look like good qualitly tires, thanks for the tips.
What's the difference between gator skin & 4 season? Do they have the same protection? I'm actually looking at the gator hard shell which has even more protection than the regular gator skin. Does the four season have as much protection as the hard shell?
+Ron Tindale They have worked great in wet weather. My winter experience has been limited to more southern rainy climates that may only get as cold as 60 deg. Since this will probably suit most people in winter they should be good for that. If you want a tire with slightly more traction in whet conditions I recommend Continental 4 seasons. Same tire slightly better traction in the whet.
They claim they are hand made but they are not. For quality control on a consistent basis and for Continental to have reached the level of production and demand they could not have that many employees. That's is just a marketing pitch to gain a higher price for their tires. They may still make tires by hand for special requests by the pro teams but not the general consumer.
They use some machinery obviously, but it it hand made in the sense it is not a fully automated robo-assembly line. I have been to Hannover in Germany, and spoken with the guys who work on the (very large) shop floor. I can assure you, they are hand made.
Leppavu I can assure you they’re not. The only processes that could be done by hand are trimming, QC and packaging. That doesn’t constitute “handmade”. The price you’re paying is reasonable considering it’s a 3/180tpi tire, but there are much better options now. Gatorskins are only popular because people don’t know any better. They’re one of the most uncomfortable tires and have ridiculous amount of rolling resistance.
Humberto Salgado. If you want to stick with Conti, the GP 4 seasons are almost as puncture resistant as the Gators, but less rolling resistance. If you don’t have to really worry about punctures go with the GP 5000. They are fantastic. Super low rolling resistance and still somewhat puncture resistant.
Alexey Pashchenko really? I've been thinking about new ones for winter but now I'm rethinking my choice. I don't like the Specialized Armadillos I'm currently using. They're heavy as hell.

How come theres 2 holes (half way in) the tires when I got them? Do you know why?
The two little holes are the wear indicator
Really long unboxing......
Are there benefits from buying folding tires over rigid ones?
Folding tires weight less than rigids, also they are easier to mount
12 pair...no flats...
You can store them more easily and fold one up as a spare for touring.
What are these like for winter use?

I love gator skin than grand pix 4000. It feels more strong and solid.
how long will it last if you skid it all the time?
No tyre will last very long if you skid all the time.
ok thank you
Although I have heard that fixie riders like these tyres for that reason.
josh smith you are correct

Best training tire Ive ever had 2 seasons on the tubular version (25m) still weighting to see if I get a flat 6500 k

An extremely interesting subject made to sound exceedingly boring by this guy.
