  • MY WHEELCHAIR VLOG, SHOWING YOU HOW I DO MY HOUSEHOLD CHORSE. COME AND FOLLOW ME AROUND AND YOU WILL SEE HOW I DO MY LAUNDRY AND CLEAN MY KITCHEN. LOADING THE DISHWASER.
Im so happy that I am vlogging. I really enjoy it and I hope you do it. I feel its really natural and you can get a true sense of what my wheelchair life is like. I thought you could follow me around and see my do some of my day to day tasks. I don’t do all of these in one day. The take up too much energy. I can’t do all these things all the time, so my husband helps out a lot, I like to do what I can when I can.
After suffering my spinal cord injury i have really had to adapt in life. So Im showing you my disability lifestyle to raise disability awareness. As a disabled woman and a woman in a wheelchair who is paralysed, I thought it would be interesting for you to see, and hopefully give you some inspiration and motivation so that you can live more independently. wether you are paraplegic or quadriplegic I hope that I can help you. The wheelsnoheels message is “so no one has to feel alone.”
i have lots of interesting disability videos, a lot of videos on how to cope with a disability and living life in a wheelchair, wether you are a girl boy woman or man. i have some paraplegic exercise videos, and advice. its important to keep your fitness levels up as much as possible as this can when physically and mentally with depression.
If you feel I have given you value today consider buying me a ko-fi, just think of it as a tip.

I really wish that you could talk to my roommate they aren't in a wheelchair but they use their disability as an excuse not to the house hold chores I don't mean to offend you I just trying to make a point and my point is that you don't let your disability stop you from taking care of what needs to be done and that's awesome. My roommate is just plain lazy it's pure laziness not her disability.

It’s actually insane that now that I cannot do any of the household chores, that I actually miss them! It took me so long to actually get used to letting my hubby do things the way he wants to do them. It started off that I couldn’t cope with him having a different way of doing jobs and as far as I was concerned, they were not done right. I’ve finally got over it and let him do it his way, without complaint, but it’s hard to drop the perfectionism of your own ways.

Awww I bet. I know what you mean. When I get bad days it really gets to me too. Its really interesting your comment, about letting go, and accepting that someone else does it differently, or has different standards. Its actually speaking volumes to me about people I knew with chronic illnesses and how they would have unnecessary arguments.!!!! WOW I feel a video coming on. Thank you for this. I think it will resinate with a lot of people. xx

I live alone in a place where there are no pets allowed, which makes me very sad I have to admit. Keep on smiling lovely xxx

    (From my friend)
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for the video. I am blind and have cerebral palsy. So I used your video to know how to do this dishes in my wheelchair, and I also paid attention to how you did your laundry. I can't do that, my roommate (me, account owner) and I's laundry room is in a sort of basement room that has a 6" drop. But I can help her with the dishes. I clean them in the bathroom sink using your sideways trick. So thanks a lot for your video. It really helped. And I hope you and your husband take care.

Hello Gem, came across your channel while browsing for how disabled people cope with household chores, as I am one of them, I have a brain and spinal cord injury and I am really struggling at the moment because I can’t do what I want to, you would think after 35 years I would be used to it but I still get very frustrated with myself. I am so glad I’ve found you channel, you have a lovely personality and had me smiling at the end of your video. Zero spoons at the min so I shall be binge watching all your videos. Sending hugs Sarah xx

I just found your blog. You're so cute! I have a crippling progressive peripheral nerve disorder that causes nerve damage and muscle loss. I can walk a little bit with my walker but mostly use my power wheelchair since I have done further damage to my knee.
I can do the dishes, cooking and laundry. I told it from the dryer right into the basket and carry the basket into my room.
Vacuuming has been the major problem for me. My housemate agreed but absolutely hates it and leaves it for a month. I bought a robot vacuum but I need help keeping it emptied because of my allergies and it needs to be done outside. It's good in a pinch but really isn't enough for every time.
Cannot put anything clean the floor because it is dirty. I can't get down on or up off the floor either. Oh well, I focus on what I can do.
Hope you continue having a Happy life!

I watched almost the entire video before I realized that the title had the words kitchen and laundry. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂
I was hoping to find tips on bathrooms and floors. So far, other people are doing it for me but I’d really like to not have to ask and to just take care of it. I will look for a video.
I do like that you take your breaks and it’s ok. That was hard for me because I liked to get everything done at once. Now, some things take all day because of breaks but at least most of it gets done eventually 😁
It’s definitely most important to listen to your body and it is a hard lesson for stubborn people like me.
    Thanks for your videos.

      Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard
I always get something positive from your videos, no matter what.
I really like your hamper! I also throw laundry down stairs but I never thought of using a laundry bag. Luckily, this apartment is one level inside but it’s on the second floor. Sometimes, I’m stuck inside for a couple weeks before I can get out. We are looking for something on the parking level, though.
Honestly, I’m not really sure what I’m looking for. Bathtubs and mopping are entirely too physical for me. (They always require a few more spoons than I wake up with 😉) I do manage the vacuum well with a Dyson cordless, providing I don’t have to move anything. It’s very light and easy to do. The mopping is not happening, neither is the shower. I use my teenage son but he will be graduating next spring so I’m hoping to be in a better position by then. 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Anyway, love your personality, as well! I’m a happy subscriber!

I loved watching you do your household chores! I sit on the floor or my bed to do my laundry too as it's sooooo much easier! Do you do things like vacuuming or does Shaun do those types of things? I really like these new videos that you've been creating x

    • @Wheelsnoheels
      @Wheelsnoheels  6 лет назад +2

Ah thanks so much lily. Yes Shaun is amazing. He does all the floors and a lot of the chorse. (As we all know the spoon theory) So sometimes he has to do it all. But i help as much as I can when I can. There is no way i could vacuum or mop the floor!!! Can u?

    • @lilithpluto
      @lilithpluto 6 лет назад +1

Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard all the floor in our flat is lino so has be swept and mopped, and even though it's a tiny flat I can usually only manage 1 of them, so my partner has to do the other. Thankfully I do the cooking most nights and he can clean and wash up and he takes on all the jobs when I can't. Its nice getting an insight into other people's lives like this!

My kitchen is TINY but thankfully my powerchair fits, as a manual wouldn't due to the wheels. I had to move out as quickly as possible due to violence so I couldn't wait the 2 odd years for wheelchair accessible category A! lol Downside is this house disqualifies me from powerchair on NHS so I get to continue to fund my two powerchairs all by myself. 😂 I hate doing laundry. lol Glad I got a tumble dryer though as hanging it up to dry was pretty much impossible for me. lol

    • @Wheelsnoheels

Awwww unfortunately this is something I can't do. Shaun does a lot of the chores that I can't do. Ill look into it and see if there is anything out there for wheelchair users. But even if there was I think it would be too labour intensive on my body and finish me off. ;)

    • @deliacolwill1345

If you have the cash there are robots for vacuuming but they still require getting chairs and stuff off the floor so not all that great if on your own. I use a Vax handheld cordless vacuum which is very lightweight and has a long tube so doesn't require bending. Totally changed my domestic world (kill me now?!). I can do the whole house fairly easily but that's me done for the day. Gem, if Shaun does it maybe don't mention this to him! He sounds like a keeper ;-)

Gem, I just did my least favorite chore ever, and that's hanging up my shirts and t-shirts, and folding sheet sets. I dislike it so much I haven't done either in about 3 months.
I put my shirts on the hangers and secure them onto the hangers with those big huge black springy paper clips. That way the shirts don't slide off the hangers. I am a bit of a clothes horse, so my closet is pretty crowded, so hanging them up can be a challenge. I used a reacher by hanging 2 hangers atbavtime on one side of the hanger on the grippy end (so the hook part of the hanger is free), and then lift the hangers with shirts up to the closet rack and hang them up. I found trying to lift more than 2 shirts at a time becomes too hard to control.
I fold my sheets by spreading them out over the bed and then grab one corner and meet it to the other corner, then go to the other side of the bed and match up the opposite corners, then repeat until I have a nice square-ish folded sheet. It's not perfect or pretty but it works for me. I store each sheet set inside one of the matching pillow cases and close up the pillow case by stacking them on shelves in my closet. They lie relatively flat this way too, and if it falls to the floor I don't have a mess of loose sheets and pillow cases that I have to pick up.
These steps are probably a little hard to understand in written form but I hope you got the gist of it at least.
How do you do these things?
    Love your videos!

Hello Gem, this video was so wonderful! I can use my legs for short distances so the houshold isn't much of a problem, but "the spoons" kill me and I need to rest after a very short time! Washing and sorting out the laundry is easy, sitting on the floor and making piles of: that's mine and that's my husbands' !
I am having a dishwasher as well! Best invention ever!
How about gardening? Can you take care of your flowers? As you said there is a little possibility of walking or standing left, so is it possible for you to work in your garden? I do work in my garden, maw the lawn and take care of the flowerbeds. But slowly and spoony-like!

I definitely don't pull my weight at home, whole body disabilities are awkward like that. I present to the outside world as a wheelchair user, I self propel and use my arms normally, it's just all the times I'm not there, I'm in bed. I don't use my wheelchair in the house at the moment, because I don't really use my house at the moment.

Hi Gemma, it's an interesting video. I have a question: Since you're dyslexic, do you find some fonts or types of letters (like all caps or something) easier to read? You could maybe do a video about that or answer it in a Q&A. Thank you. :)

Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard lol, I’m assuming you have an elevator or chair lift? But I didn’t see one when you threw the laundry down the stairs!! I drag myself up on my butt, lol, when I do have have to use stairs!!! Like I’ve told you before, I’m an amputee but have severe neuropathy in my remaining leg so I don’t use prosthetic very often!! I’m Usually in a chair, Only when I leave the house or drive do I use a prosthetic!! Never had a good fit though! i still have to use hand controls as I lost my right leg!!
