Wow! Queen Zheng's powerful first serve and speed are showing her potential to be one of the best players again. Obviously, you can never underestimate the home court advantage. BTW, Fernandez has been playing well too. I am not sure if her previous two tough three-set matches have affected her physical strength. On the other hand, this is only the 2nd game of Zheng as one of the top seeded players.
@@jonfreeman9682 Well, Zheng just had her 22nd birthday. And she is still improving her game. Besides, most of the top players in the history reached their pick before 25 years old. Let's give Zheng 2 more years to see if she can get a Grand Slam title.
I think her present team is fine. Pere Riba is one of the best coach in WTA, Qinwen has improved her game, she now adds an improved net game, better defense and her speed around the court and general movement has also improved..
@@jonfreeman9682 Give her a bit more time she is only 21 and Pere is certainly adding a bit more to her game and we are seeing a continuous improvement in her game. Saba and Ryba are the most powerful players in WTA,, Mucho is probably the most naturally gifted player in the game despite all her injuries.
Fernandez doesn't have enough power or weapons like a booming serve or ground strokes that would whizz out before the opposing player can retrieve them! Zheng who looks seemingly slow is quicker than most players realize! As she have a very solid defense and retrieve about 70% of the opponents strikes! Zheng is a slow starter looking at her past couple of matches but with her high percentage of ball retrieval, same puts lots of pressure on her opponents which extract many errors! Nice win for Zheng!
Fernandez is very good player for her size, pretty much like a pocket dynamite on court, she move pretty well and she gets down pretty low on her shots so she can absorb the power and returned the ball, little bit like Polini in a way, she is a lefty that can be tricky for right handers. I think having played extra match and extra three setter may have taken the edge of Fernandez a bit in the last 1.5 sets of this match. I think this is also the reason Muchova pulled out of Wuhan because in China Open she actually played two more matches to get to the final to play Gauff, in a way it was just physically too much for Fernandez to back up with less than 1 day after her last match went to a third set tie break and having played almost 3 more hours than Qin Wen.
Very important victory for the race to the finals in Riyadh, now she has a 107-point advantage over Navarro, a clear victory in the end but Qinwen always plays with too much tension, I understand her a little, it must not be easy especially in China for a superstar like she has become to always keep the tension at the right level, but in this way she risks throwing away good opportunities. Leyla is a very fearsome opponent for anyone, moreover it is never easy to face left-handed players and credit to her for the good match despite the last set lost to love, next challenge Zheng Paolini another match that promises to be exciting, who knows if just as Qinwen dispelled the 0 to 2 with Leyla now the opposite can happen with Paolini with the same disadvantage with Zheng
I think it is much better to face Leyla than facing Muchova who pull out of this tournament because how poorly scheduled the matches in China Open and Wuhan Open. Leyla in this tournament playing an extra match and has been on court almost 3 hours more than Qinwen with not even a day of rest after her last match. LF was a bit flat after 1.5 sets. In China Open Muchova played 7 matches to get to the final and Gauff played 5 that was obviously gave Gauff a physical advantage to Gauff.
Well she needs to beat Navarro and teach her another big lesson on who's the boss. Let the tennis do the talking. Leyla did great but just ran out of steam.
Is it going to be tougher to win slam tournaments as the WTA seems determined to wear-out players and hence make them more susceptible to fatigue and injuries? The men's tour seems to be confronting the same issue !?!😮😮😮😮😮😮
i think zheng can be a more successful player if can improve her game with good shot selection with variations. She now plays in the same dimension. She often played and won in 3 sets even though she could win in 2 sets since she finally lost the set she play dominantly but could not to keep the momentum on her side, one of the reason was some of her shot selection and adaptaion not so good and lost some crucial points.
@@LAn-m8h Yikes that's annoying. The rules do allow coaching so anyone can talk to your player and cheer them on but you shouldn't be shouting across the court annoying the other player.
LEYLAH needs to get a PRO COACH or someone like Andre Agassi who's "on the rise" hitting technique will suit Leylah. That is if they can afford it or will have a sponsor for it. Also, that drop shot and approach play is an old trick and the other players are already on to her.
A lot of people have been suggesting a new coach for Leylah since that 2021 US Open but she seems to be beholden to her father as her coach. The ball is on Leylah's father hands. He should give up being her coach and advise her daughter to hire a new coach, especially a serve coach. A lefty serve is quite effective when powerfully served.
More than that, the shot selection can be sketchy. And needs to protect her backhand side esp when defending and using one hand only against strong hitter. This will not do….
Fernandez has great instincts but lacks stamina. Her father is not helping her finding a solution to her lack of conditioning. It is time for him to step aside and she should get a strength trainer ASAP. She fades away by the second set or the second round after a long match.
I agree with you. She has so much talent and a full court game. She has added some pop on her serve, but really has not improved her stamina. Hopefully she sees that she needs a change in conditioning.
Give me a break LF does not lack stamina, the schedule of this tournament and China Open has disadvantaged player like LF. LF played an extra match in this tournament, her first match against Shnaider lasted 2h45m and her last match lasted 2h56m, Qinwen played critian in 2nd round that went for 1h42m. So LF actually played almost 3hrs more to get to this match and also with less than 24 hours rest. Schedule for China Open is also not much better Muchova made the final but she had to play two more matches than Gauff to get to the final, Muchova played 7 matches in that tournament compare to 5 for Gauff. I do not believe that playing extra 3 hours in 2 days and two more matches have no impact or physically disadvantage a player.
Good match. Congratulations to Qinwen. Great serves
omg third round of zheng's service was like bomb

Leyla has improved and is very consistent. This was a close match can go either way. Both are great players but still not enough to win Grand Slams.

If she can hit as powerful as Sabalanka then it is certainly fantastic

She cannot beat the very best players like top 10 Saba Mucho Ryba. There's room for improvement.

Leylah is a great player, but Qinwen outlasted her. It is due to physical strength.
It's not easy to face the high pressure on the court. I hope Qinwen find her way to balance her body and mind.
Zheng Qinwen is a true comeback Queen! She has a very strong psychological quality!

Qinwen is physically stonger than Leylah, and her 1st serve is so powerful.
