So glad I found this vid. Have had the Polychrome for over six months and have put it on and taken it off of my board a few times because I just don't have a knack for dialing in settings. Your "riffs" are great examples of different settings that are recognizable sounds (of other bands, songs...) - much like the presets that come with digital pedals. I'm going to get all these settings down on paper and then put the Polychrome back on the board and dial them in. :D Thanks!
Hey man do you have a video that talks about your musical journey? I'm interested in things like how you got started and when, if you are self taught (or lessons, or school, etc.), what you found harder/easier, if you quit at any point and restarted (like the dummy that's writing this), and so on. Your lessons are bang on, and your guitar collection is eye candy (that blue Suhr has me mesmerized, and I don't even really like strats), but I'd love to hear how you got to where you are. Oh, and the She Sells Sanctuary sounded killer! I so want to learn to play that one.
I don’t tbh but I started playing at about 15 and had a few lessons early on, tried to “make it” in a band in my 20s and then didn’t play for about 15 yrs or so. Picked it back up and joined a Pearl Jam tribute in the UK and then thought I’d do a RUclips channel. This is like the best bit of my mid life crisis haha 🤘😀 And thank you so much for the kind words!
@@LetsPlayAll Yeah 15 for me too, a few lessons, basically didn't take it too seriously then picked it back up 20 years later. Sustained a devastating left wrist injury though which makes thing really tough. Obviously, you got really good on your journey and it really shows. Do you have any advice on remembering songs? I get one down after learning it and practicing it for hours, then a couple of days later just can't recall it. I'm a trauma operating room nurse, which I think speaks to my ability to focus and learm, but damnit I just can't remember songs well.
nice demo. the polychrome is so good, i cant even decide what my favourite setting is. btw, blackhole sun uses a leslie / rotary sound, but sounded also awesome with the flanger.
Hello there! Idk if you remember this name but I’m jake Merkel. I became of huge fan when I got my first guitar in March of 2020. You practically saved me by your teaching during the pandemic. I don’t care if you remember me or not but I’d just like to let you know your a great teacher
Hi Excellent demo, informative and no hype -thanks I'm looking to get the flange effect in the solo section of 'Wasn't born to follow' by the Byrds - what is going on in there? Any ideas as to which pedal will achieve that?
Hey Mike, I've had a quick listen but that sounds like two guitar parts with some tape flange going on so it'd be tricky to replicate that studio take in a pedal tbh. You could set a wild flange tone and use the momentary latch on this pedal to switch it on and off temporarily for the parts that have really crazy flange tones. Not sure of a pedal that will do that exact thing tbh
Probably the most tweakable flanger I've ever seen, plenty of options for different effects too. 10 flanger riffs though, I immediately thought A Forest by The Cure, "yeah.. of course Matt will include that". Mate, what's occurring?! 😉😆
Definitely the most tweakable one I’ve played, and in defo a convert to that analog goodness! Haha mate that was on my list, but pretty sure it’s played on a bass and I thought I’d avoid the majority of the more obvious selections (except Barracuda/Van Halen or I’d have been beaten 🤣) - I could’ve done 20 tbh!
Thanks for the inspiration. I just picked up an EVH117 for a steal!!! and you’ve shown what can be accomplished. Do you remember if it was before or after your drive?
The design with the center single coil is commonly referred to as the "Nashville" Tele. It's a valid option, but if you look at standard 2 pickup wiring options ,using a 4 way switch, you can achieve similar Humbucker or out of phase sounds. It's possible to wire a Tele to suit any purpose.
Depends if you prefer flanger or phaser tbh. Both are great pedals and the blend knobs make them both very versatile. In terms of song use personally I use Phaser more, but it's personal preference really depending on the music you like to play :-)
Cool video 👍 Can you tell me if the example of Unchained of Van Halen can be done without touching the switch of the effect ? What I mean is that the pedal (if I had it) would not be placed in a pedalboard but in a rack drawer. I saw many videos about this pedal and all we can do with clean sounds is really impressive but I didn't see a lot of examples with distortion and there, it's exactly what I'm looking for :)
Hey man, Walrus Audio got back to me with this "Unfortunately, there is not a way to remote access the bypass functionality on the Polychrome" so the momentary bypass can't be done if you're putting the pedal in a rack. Hope that helps!
@@LetsPlayAll thanks, I had the drive after and I couldn’t get the flange to stand out enough, but switching the order made all the difference. I was discouraged at first, but now I kinda wish it had presets cuz it’s got so many good settings….
What you recommend for the settings if you wanted a more subtle, chorus-like sound? I just got this pedal and I was a bit overwhelmed by the weirdness of it, I am having trouble getting subtle tones.
The Blend knob will help you tame the pedal's more crazy settings, set it more to Dry for more subtle effects. Also the Voice switch in the down position is more traditional and less wacky and leave the Wave shape to Sine or Triangle (up or middle) rather than the down position. That should hopefully help!
the blue one? those are fender lace sensor pups, it's what's known as a nashville style pup config now i think, but back then it was just a tele with strat configuration!
Ah thanks Stefanue and that is very timely! i'm including an Oasis riff in my next demo video and was just thinking it's about time we did some, so stay tuned!

Nice stuff, that pedal looks sick
I remember back in the day, when I first encountered a flanger via a Zoom 505, I always thought it had a cool "sci-fi" sound. Nice demo man!
Thanks Ace! Ah i remember the old Zoom pedals - they were great fun!
Totally sold me on this pedal. Awesome demo
Thanks Tim, cracking pedal!
That was amazing! As in I loved every second and every song and the look of the pedal and the right to the point!!!!!! Woohoo!
thanks so much! lots more demos on here with this approach, enjoy mate!

@@jezmez68 thanks!
Thank you for this demo!
You’re welcome!
Holy crap, wasn't expecting Rivers of Avalon. Nice deep cut :)
Cheers Antonio!
Looking forward to placing my 1991 pedal (when it comes) in front of my polychrome. The polychrome is great fun and sooo versatile.
Ah wicked!! That’ll be a sweet line up 😀🤘
Maravilloso ✨
Your tone for Unchained was awesome!
Thanks!
Top shelf playing, as always, young fellow .

Hey Jake! Good to hear from you and yes i do remember 😊🤘Thanks so much for the kind words and good to hear you’re still plugging away mate!
was hoping to see some van halen here, so sick, and such good use of the effect
Hey Iris! I did try to avoid a lot of the more obvious flanger riffs but I just couldn’t leave out Van Halen or Barracuda 🤘😀
@@LetsPlayAll Did you use it in the effects loop or in front of the amp?
@@dalodeper in front of the amp, I never use the fx loop in any of my vids, tbh I forget I have one haha
Great review for the paint by numbers crowd. ;)
How well can you make this sound like a chorus?
Modulation should be 2 controls at most. Great video thank you.

Can you tell me more about that telecaster model with the middle pickup?

Noooooo! Nooooo! Another peddle that I now have to buy! ❤
