    Erica, you’ve probably already checked, but just in case, have you checked in your little jewellery medicine bottle for the wedding ring? Also, if your husband has a wallet with a coin storage pocket, has he checked in there or his glasses case. I know that is where my hubby stashed his when he’s in a hurry. Great re-evaluation of yours and the children’s clothing upon returning from your holiday. I think this was a great job, as it really seems like the ideal time to do a summer clothing declutter. Brilliant job catching up on all your laundry too.

      @@EricaLucasLoves so I work in mental health and I have been watching you for several years since the second video you started decluttering. What I see is that cooking is one of your coping skills and part of your self care. It's a good healthy coping skill, so not too much at all ☺️. It was mine when my son was little. Now he's grown and I live alone with no one to cook for. Enjoy it

    I also do laundry by person! I feel like a lot of minimalists on YT do the 1 load a day with whatever is dirty that day, but having daily loads that go to 4 different people & includes towels, bedding, etc. is completely overwhelming to me.

    When my 4 children were young (They are all in their 40's now) when I put their clothes away or they did they would put the newly washed ones to the back or bottom so that the ones already in their drawers got put to the top and worn too. It was a good way of making sure that the clothes got equal time of wearing.

    I really appreciated this video. I'm struggling a bit to go through my clothes. Your comments about things not fitting, or not even choosing to wear them, so donating, helped me realize I need to be that realistic about items I avoid to make decisions about. I needed the reminder. Thank you.

    I never really knew anything about minimalism before my first child was born but because there were already 5 other babies/toddlers ahead of him in our extended family, I was overwhelmed with the amount of baby clothes that came our way. In the end I settled on 6 of each thing and passed the rest on to my sister in law who was due 6 months after me. It was a busy year for babies in our extended family that year, mine in January, another in June and one in November. Six seems to have been the magic number over the years. Neither of my kids ever ran out of clothes to wear during the week but they were never overwhelmed with too many choices, or too much to put away or keep tidy either. Over the years I've curated my wardrobe down too and it's so much easier to choose what to wear each morning. We each have a small woven basket for our dirty laundry and everyone does their own. When the basket looks full it means we're nearly out of clothes so we do a wash. My kids are 25 and 20 now

    I do this too except right before we leave versus get back. Right now we’re vacationing in SD for a week from our home state and I packed a weeks worth for my sons and I, after I packed I looked at the drawers and evaluated every piece I left behind (and were already fairly minimal). It was eye opening how many clothes we kept for just in case and when the just in case came I didn’t want them either (kind of like your capris)! Thank you again for another great video!

  • @klarab84
    @klarab84 20 дней назад +1

    It’s liberating to realize that the things you keep as back up actually don’t end up being the real back up and you can then donate that.

  • @laurac56
    @laurac56 18 дней назад

    You need to invest in a few nice pieces of clothing that you love when you try them on in the store (not buying used without trying). Then for all of you, whittle down to one laundry cycle worth of clothing. If anyone runs out of clothing before the cycle, run a small load. When you receive hand-me-downs, choose only what replaces something else and quickly pass the rest on. For that pile of shorts for son to try, IF he needs shorts, pick one or two for him to try. Too much inventory is coming into your house and hanging around. You have so much sport equipment that you HAVE to deal with, reduce the other items.

    Just the video I needed. I've been home since June 29th, and I unpacked with you. I was adding it to my To Do List but kept skipping it. I did do the laundry part on Tuesday, July 9th, and was able to do a major declutter of clothes because I left a pen in a pocket that exploded in the dryer. All ink stained clothes stayed at the laundromat.

    • @sharonhenry2820
      @sharonhenry2820 20 дней назад +4

      That was my thought too.😉 Maybe because I worked in a public library for 13 years. Lol
      I always suggested getting something from the booksale (then you're only out $1 if a book gets lost or damaged). So many people take library books to the beach and that always makes me cringe when I think of the potential for water damage. 😮

      I'm sorry about your husband's ring though. Ours were stolen during a move in 1999. At the time I was so heartbroken that anyone could be that heartless. I prefer doing laundry by person too with 4 daughters... Oldest is out of the house, the others are 17, 14 and 4. When an item like your son's shirts are ready to move on, I throw those into mine so they get washed but not mixed back in for another round or two of wearing. Love your videos! Hope you find hubby's ring! (Haven't watched through yet.)

    For anyone backed up on laundry and not going on vacation, this works then too. Throw a load in the wash with a complete outfit and go to that person's closet and see what's left.... those are the least favorites because they have pulled the favorites out first.

    Good video! I have starting thinking about decluttering my capris and pants. I am extremely proud of myself over the 4th of July I hosted a get together with my brother, sisters, their kids and grandkids. I brought out 2 boxes of pictures from 1948 ( parents were married then) to 1979. I had gone through and kept what wanted . The rest of the family went through them took what they wanted. We found pictures of my mother’s brothers and their families. My sister took home the pictures and posted them online. Cousins were not aware of pictures and were thrilled to see pictures from the 50’s and 60’s. They are gone from my house and I am thrilled. But, ahhhh I still have about 8 more boxes!
