Every so often I find a new channel on You Tube I just immediately love and end up binge watching old videos to catch up, you're that. So interesting and I love the way you tell the story.
Really tough spring in west Wales too. I think whatever you do in these challenging conditions it will never be right. The biggest question i never seem to know the answer is at what point does the field end up loosing good grasses to weeds and ground ends up compacted that it needs to be rectified.
There aren't to many farmers who look forward to getting stick / abuse from the viewers..😅😅 But you can take it good Andrew!! Im glad I came across your channel cause you don't ask for more viewers, yea just get on with it. I hope your viewing figures grow because you do a good job on explaining the day to day running of your business, the highs and lows which is good for the none - farming folk..🚜🚜
Do you really need to plough. Considering the weather for year ahead is uncertain at best and your land is level. Wud spraying and stitching in grass not make be a safer bet this year
have you ever heard the comment 'the cows will tell you when it's the right time to turn out in spring and right time to come in in autumn'.....when you showed us the field your going to plough it looked very much like the cows were probably standing at the gate thinking to themselves i'd rather be in a shed than standing out in the rain and in mud......i think you also get more lameness when cows are standing around in mud. i'm deffinately a big believer in making good use of grazed grass but only if the weather and ground conditions are good and actually i think milk yield only increases when the weather and ground conditions are good.....cows don't milk well if there shivering and dripping wet. also theres a risk of loosing one or two cows to staggers or something in wet cold conditions especially the older cows. have you ever considered zero grazing
Ha ha u can't walk and talk... don't start running and talking.. be no hope for ya..... there will be plenty of chain harrowing done this year.... wen it drys up.
It's a sad day when you are taking grazing advice from Tom Pembarton 😂(the worst grazer🫣) though it wasn't really about grazing more about making content. So you're now making farming decisions on the basis of is it going to make a good video? YOU DON'T HAVE A PLATE METER 😮 we've discovered the 2nd thing you don't measure, along with silage intakes. So you say you graze down to proper covers but have no evidence to back it up🤷 and then you admit you buffer feeding all summer, so you make EXTRA silage just to feed silage ££££🤷 respect is heading down the pan here 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

You are in a better position to give advice because you are doing it. Unlike most advisors.
"The man that done nothing wrong, done nothing.
Great to get the cows out, heard Tom P and Farmer Phil give ya a shout out during the week
As a consumer I'm much happier knowing cows are feeding outside. Much easier with so many farmers doing direct to consumer milk at the gate
Let’s hear the analysis on straights over compound. Never heard of a few of those.
Absolutely. I will put it in the next video of me sowing fert!
Hopefully these tough months will with lower production will lead to greater returns later this year. Really enjoy your videos
Thanks! I think the lack of production has definitely held the milk price where it is.

It's hard to judge, I think it's time for a.reseed when the field holds moisture longer than all the rest.

Thank you! I like making videos I would enjoy watching! Thats my guiding principle
Hi Andrew,
Could you talk us through a soil sample and how you decide which fertiliser to apply in one of your videos?
Sure could. I think I done a video covering that before but I will do it again. 👌
We have left ours in going to cut all for 1st cut then turn out in 2 weeks
Bale a couple of fields in the next few days if you can to get a rotation going
Then the issue is you still don't have a wedge. Very hard year to get things started.
What mix rate of roundup do you use per acre?
Sprayed some today. 5l/ha so 2l/ac
Would you consider zero grazing silage ground during the summer when your cows are in at night?
I don't see the point, making silage is just easier?
Good stuff
Grazing in meath. Half way through 2nd rotation. Damaging paddocks for the 2nd time, but not bad. 28l 4.73bf 3.67p
Good work! Our big problem now is getting our first rotation grazed out and getting a wedge started. Going to be really tricky.
Got our cows out today for the first when not to bad but only out 3 hours
Excellent! Great day when they go out!
How are you is it liquid or powder ecosyl you use for the silage
I have used both, liquid now and I think I prefer it.
What breed of cows have u
Was that a broken slat on mixing point 35sec into the video?
Yes! It's on the to-do list to get replaced now the cows are out. You're all very observant. 🤣
Do many farmers in your area graze cows Andrew?
I would say it's over 50%. It's getting less common.
You need a side kick like the 'ginger warrier.'
I will hold open auditions.

I was due a reseed, and I'm a big fan of ploughing.
Are u cutting grass this week?
Nope, it will be mid May for me this year.
Seems you are missing the point of covers with poisons sprayed on it.

Sorry incorrect
The cows are definitely happy out, the biggest issue was they are to happy! The run all round the field all day! 😅
Ah come on rant away. We all could do with some voicing our opinion. There is so much but I would defo watch a 30min video of a rant!!
Okay then! 😅 I will allow myself to rant next time. 🤣
👍👍🙏🙏🇮🇪🇮🇪👏👏
It’s toms turn to return the comment of being a terrible farmer 😂
I'm giving him the opportunity on a plate. 🤣
Zero grazer
I'm not convinced. 🤔

Your wasting your time farming Andrew you should be running the Dept of Agriculture in this country. Ledge
Farming is great!
@@FarmTheoryNI absolutely 👍

I will recover your respect next week. 😆 I promise it was a good decision.
You can perfectly graze cows without a plate meter! It's basically an aid for people who can't judge grass covers. 😬🤣
@@FarmTheoryNI if your that good at judging grass covers why do you need to buffer feed 🤔😂😂
@@andrewbaird3431
Maybe the fact that he has a stocking rate of 6lu/ha on the milking block would explain the need to buffer feed at times!🤔
@@Sportsboy7865 don't give him a cop out he's substituting expensive silage for cheap grass 😂😂
