According to a friend working in the local power station their modern gas turbine only achieves 30% efficiency rather than the normal 60. This is because they have to constantly vary the load due to fluctuating renewable energy. When the renewable is contributing they are converting their power to heat up the chimney.

Our electricity contract ended in August 2022.
We had the choice of going variable rate (which was something close to £1/kWh) or signing up at 85p/kWh for a year or 50p/kWh for 3 years.
We signed up for 3 years (couldn't afford the others!) so we are still paying 50p/kWh 😥
Looking forward to the end of August 2025 !!!

Are Ancestors survived grand for hundreds of thousands years with out Governments & their policies & their power supplies. It's only in the last hundred years, people have come dependant on Governments. I was born in 1984 Wicklow & many people were able to survive grand with out having a shower every day, turning all the lights on in the house, even during the day. Lighting the cities & streets up, like a USA football stadium. I fly to North Africa regularly & people don't waste power there, like we do in Europe. We are spoilt rotten in Northern western Europe

have a look at the Departments website and it says renewables are about 3p per kilowatt and gas 11.5 p. That is accurate. The additional costs are because of the privatisation of the energy market and the trading system. . The real problem for farmers in NI is that the cost of connection to the grid is extortionate compared to the rest of Europe AND/ OR connection is not possible across most of the North so farmers cannot diversify into renewable energy,

France has got it right here, vast majority of,power by nuclear, and a little wind hydro and solar, Not dependent on foreign oil or gas,

Absolutely, but the decision to go nuclear dates back over 50 years. Hard to catch up on that...

It's no surprise that 2/3 has nothing to do with the cost of production on our farm we were with BG 100 percent renewal and one year to the next price doubled I struggled to understand how renewable costs went up that much

Martin Lewis really needs to hear the energy facts you've shared Andrew. He's a 'fighter' that faces the government with facts and I'd be surprised if he knew the ones you quoted in this video. I'd love to hear him challenge them with the amunition you've provided. Thank you for keeping it fairly simple to understand the facts on energy in the UK.

Pay me now or pay me double later. Energy grid needs to be updated. Full stop.
The true costs lie with planning and development. Overhaul the planning laws and you'll see the price of "green" energy plummet. If you do it right it becomes import substitution, keeping all the money in the domestic market and ploughing it back into the economy rather than sending it to the US or Russia by buying their LPG
