Hi guy. I was just outside cleaning my new ego lawn mower on. April 8th 2024.....day of the eclipse. I used just regular hot water and drill brush under the deck. And it works very good!!!....and it's real fast. Just let the brush and your drill do the work and wipe clean.....I got my drill brush years ago from Amazon. Just wanted to share. Takecare.
I have this problem with my Ryobi mower and thought the drill with a brush might be the answer. Have to give it a try but it sounds like it works based on what you’ve said.
Before you even mow, spray silicone spray under the deck to keep the surface slick. Keeps the grass from easily sticking and makes for easier cleaning.
Bought this one brand new,, but forgot about the spray.ugh!!.. luckily, I've only mowed a few times in (dry) grass so getting mine back to where it should be with a cleaning followed by a silicone spray won't be a big deal.
I have been using sillycone spray on my snow blower for years to keep the Shute from clogging up with ice, and also around the outside, the snow just falls off. I start early in the season and give a few coats. I am researching buying an electric but so far the reviews for the lower price ones are terrible. I'm 79 and don't want to spend $789 on something I won't be around to use.
I use my Ego mower on multiple properties and I can't put it in my suv without cleaning it first, it makes a grassy mess. I use 3 things to clean the deck and it only takes 2 minutes. First I use my Ego leaf blower (don't forget the mulch plug). Second I use Meguiars Waterless Wash & Wax spray and a Dollar Tree toilet brush. The Meguiars has gentle solvents which removes caked on grass. Third, now that the grass is no longer stuck on, blow it again. The Meguiars also leaves behind a slippery wax which prevents caking of grass. It's 10 bucks a bottle but it only takes a few squirts. I've used one bottle for the past two seasons and it's still half full.
I’ve been using a hose on my ego mower for 5 years now. I live in south Florida so I mow year round. My mower is still in great shape. I have an attachment on my hose that I use to jet spray only the bottom of the deck. I use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe it down. Unless you get a lemon ego lawnmower, which is highly improbable, they build these mowers like tanks. They can take water on the bottom of the deck. And no, I don’t use a hose nor recommend using a hose to clean off the rest of the mower.
I got mine just a few months ago and...I'm old and have been grass for a very long time...and this is new to me...that I should NOT use a waterhose? Pfft. If that's as "well-made" as they are then I guess it's back to gasoline and...now I just get snarky...as I can afford that these days and not to mention that I am aiding in killing the planet....
Just use the water hose. Stop listening to these sissy ego fan boys “oh don’t use water” “eeee don’t take the guard off your weed wacker”. “Aaaaa you’re going to void your warranty”. Stfu noob
@@jackmorgan8931 I'm a 77 year old lady with this EGO mower that promises the sky in the ads. I'm just not as happy as I wanted to be, for the price I paid for the darn thing. I have to wait all day for the grass to get as dry as possible after all the dew dries off the grass. My yard is a pretty small suburban lawn, and the battery runs all the way down. I keep having to turn the mower over and clean out the undercarriage at least once to finish mowing the lawn. Then when I'm all done the mess that's stuck underneath!!! Now it's dark, and I have to clean underneath, and not use a hose. If any grass stays stuck under the mower, I need to jackhammer it out the next day. I even sprayed on WD40 to avoid all this sticking. Can you tell I'm not happy with this mower. I did turn it over today, and used the hose with a very small spray. Wasting precious time scraping and what not. I've hosed and pressure washed my EGO deck for the past 6 years and it still runs fine. I've also left it outside in the pouring rain and blazing sun for years and it still works. I even hose the top off but use care around the battery area.
Agreed. I use my pressure washer on all my lawn equipment....................and have done so for the past ten years. Never, ever had any issues. Not on my battery driven mowers and before those, not on my gas-powered mowers. Like most equipment. regular PM keeps equipment in a like new condition.

Coat the plastic housing with anything from a vegetable oil spray to a car wax product, then take a few minutes after each mowing to wipe the debris off. Renew the oil or wax as required. The secret is cleaning every time you mow, so the clippings don't get baked on and dried out.
I would first coat the deck when new with a coat of wax or silicone or ceramic coating to prevent build up. If that was not done, instead of scraping, I'd use a drill with a brush (quite a handy setup) and go to town with it....
I use a long handled yellow bristled brush I picked up from HD. If you brush it right after mowing the grass comes right off very easy. Then I use an EGO blower to blow out all the nooks and crannies.
I used Gyeon Rim on my Honda plasti-deck and it cleans of super fast with very little of the larger piles of crap that used to build up. I cleaned it well, coated, waited an hour, recoated, and gave it two days to lock in. I suspect any quality ceramic coating would work. I used Gyeon because I had left over from coating my grill and oven hood.
Good video presentation. One thought to consider is using an automotive ceramic coating on the inside surfaces of the deck. Clippings will be far less apt to stick and will be much easier to clean up. Also - use a brush to more easily clean inside the crevices.
Thanks for the video. When new or after cleaning apply a Ceramic Wax such as Griots Garage 3 n 1 Ceramic Spray (bright green color) or Turtle Wax brand similar type product. You could also apply an actual ceramic coating such as those used for car detailing. It will protect and repel grass for months at a time. Save you from removing the blades and scraping.
Yeah, a ceramic coating would do wonders - should last an entire season (at least) and probably 90% or more of the stuff would come off with just the blower - and probably 9% of the 10% that is left would come off moist rag. Those ridges would be the real issue since there isn't really a good way to coat that area, it's a big design flaw that I know they addressed in the latest top of the line mower.
I have this same issue with my Ryobi mower but I don’t like the idea of having to remove the blade. As another commenter said, I will try the hot water and drill/brush method to see if that works 😌😌

I think if you could find a cap from a ramekin and drill a hole in the center to seal of the motor aperture you could use some kind of spay attachment. The silicone treatment or wax is a good start.
I found a different way to clean my mower, just won't work year round...blowing leaves into a pile then mulching them via mulching attachment that comes with the mower. mulching DRY leaves cleans the deck and leaves nothing but a little dust to blow off. Also, takes MUCH fewer trash bags if you haul your leaves off. I don't, I mix the leaf mulch with mulched grass clippings which over time turns into compost for vegetable garden...mulched leaves are also good mulch in flower beds as they soak up the rain and keep plants hydrated longer between waterings...
Once cleaned apply a light coating of Fluid Film. Lanolin based, safe for wiring. Keeps the clipping from sticking to the plastic deck and will wipe right off.

Why on earth did ego leave such massive crevices under the deck. I filled mine in with silicone so it's smooth. Seems like it serves no purpose but to shed weight and cost saving
While I admire your dedication and hard work, it seems like that level of detailing is mostly overkill since it will immediately be dirty again the second you turn it back on. I just scrape the majority off then hit it with the blower.
You did a really good job but to be honest i've always used my water hose from day 1 with no issues. I do remove the battery and even hose out the battery compartment

While I admire your dedication and hard work, it seems like that level of detailing is mostly overkill since it will immediately be dirty again the second you turn it back on. I just scrape the majority off then hit it with the blower.
Yeah I'd probably only go that crazy if I planned to sell it
I'll try with the leave lower. Mine is very strong.
leaf blower
You did a really good job but to be honest i've always used my water hose from day 1 with no issues. I do remove the battery and even hose out the battery compartment
Why EGO doesn't make the undercarriage water resistant and seal around the electrical parts so you can safely use water is beyond me. Any clues?
@@kroynenno I fixed an electrical problem with my EGO mower that was a result of poor design. Although I use a hose on the underside of my mower, are use a blower on the top and sides.
@@brianwhoreadsobjectiveinfo1122 Sign yourself onto the EGO product design staff. They need you.
Spray wd40 let it soak and wipe off. It also works.
Cool thank you
Looking for a plastic deck scraper for plastic deck mower, no luck so far.
Just use a plastic putty knife from Ace Lowes or home depot. That works fine
@@TechMadeEzy - I have a metal Grassbuster one with a curved blade but afraid to use it on this new EGO plastic deck mower. EGO should sell a curved plastic scraper. Just ordered a flexible plastic curved bowl scraper from Amazon.
How long did this take you?
Making a video took a little longer, but this usually takes me about 35 minutes if I’m not making a video
This is a lawn mower, folks. EGO needs to build a better e-lawn mower, one that shields the motor so it can be hosed. This cleaning process is plain old ridiculous. I like the mower's light weight, rechargeable, and self propelled. But it's a lawn mower, folks. This cleaning process, and not and not be able to use a hose to protect the electric motor? What? We use this thing outdoors, cutting grass. You don't need to take as much care of a kitchen appliance! I am so disappointed, for the money I paid for this thing.
@@mariemonaco6635 Thanks - I have other EGO products - and a 2.5,4.0 and 5..0 ah batteries. I thought getting the mower would be next . But not if it has to be cleaned without using a hose ( and if you do it voids the warranty! )
That’s a dealbreaker for me - going to get another Honda -
even though they are going to stop making them in two years-I’ve had the same Honda mower for 20 years.
Spray the underside of the lawnmower with WD40 spray and the grass won't catch you and it will be easier to clean.
I heard there’s some good ceramic spray. Also, I’ve never tried it yet, but I’m gonna probably need to one day.
Why not use a white nylon brush on a drill to clean out all the grass with your cleaner over a scraper.
Might try that
I just hose mine off and then run the blade for a couple minutes to toss off all the excess water... putting silicon makes good sense though.
Come to think of it, the instructions don't really tell you where the motor is, or what needs to be shielded from hose water. That would be very helpful for those of us who need to use a hose.
Why not cover the middle part with plastic and then use hose for cleaning to protect the electricals.
your before and after are different lawn mowers?
No, did you watch the video I cleaned it
@@TechMadeEzy I did watch it. The only reason why I thought it was different is because the clean one doesn’t have the metal disc? Amazing job though. Hope I can get mine as clean.
@@TechMadeEzy Busted! I went back and watched the last bit.

Thanks
Why didn’t you sharpen the blade while you did your cleaning the bottom of the mower video?
I’d like to see the blade sharpened…..
Thanks
Great video, this was. Really helpful video
Hey Alex! Thank you good to see you as always 👍🏻
I don't get it. When removing or installing the blade
you say to put the screwdriver either "here" or "here",
but you are putting it in the same hole????? 😁✌🖖
Thanks!
Thank you so much
Can you tell me an impact driver that isn’t super expensive that will work to change the blades?
Here is one , it’s a craftsman will do the job comes with battery and charger
If not really any impact driver will do the job, not a drill as much but like you said impact driver amzn.to/44aa2nJ
I wonder how hard is it to remove the motor off the deck for cleaning for winter?
You got me on that one
I'm here for Brooklin
She’s in heaven now
Thanks, I think I'll stick to using a hose.
Are you cutting your grass wet ?
Sometimes I have no choice but most of the time no.
jet wash, yjats all ive ever done and nothing wrong with my mowers
Cut the grass when it is dry and eliminate the problem
You clean it once a month. I have to clean mine twice each time I cut grass!
me too.
you can use a car sealer like turtle was spray stuff to keep it from sticking.
I might try that at some point
I use hose but maybe I should stop
I use a hose too, but never had a problem.
I use the EGO blower after I wash the deck to remove the excess water. This keeps the rear axle from rusting.
I love using the blower for so many other things 👍🏼
one more thing if you really have to waste time cleaning it like this..just use a hose or pressure washer and 5 minutes later your done
Be aware some of the techniques you're mentioning could void the warranty
You sound a little like Alan Alda. I like your videos. If this is actually Mr Alda, I enjoyed you on M.A.S.H.
I heard that a few times, thanks
Why did they design the bottom deck so shitty.
👍👍
Never shows the spray going on, or wiping it down….🙄🙄😏
Am I the only one that thinks this dude sounds like Howard Stern?
Nope 😎
I really think the handle should be lowered, the front wheels keep coming up.
Slip Plate #1
Nice video. That’s way to much trouble. I just use a water hose. Takes like 3 min. Wd40. Done.
This guy sounds like Howard Stern. Right?
Robin helps me setup 😎
👌👌👌
should clean it every time...
100% if we lived at home with Mom and didn't have to work 3 jobs 💪🏼
Power wash it. Blow dry. Coat with Pam.
Tbh I just mow the lawn when the grass is just a little wet lol it’ll clean itself. Try it out. Not too wet but just enough to make it look good
