I would love to see what stationery items you bring, and also which ones you actually wind up using! I’m such a chronic overpacker, especially when it comes to stationery.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I am a very light packer and usually only take with me the essentials. It will be interesting to do a follow up after the trip to see if I packed all the necessary stationery items.
Love this setup. And have fun in Japan! And yes, I would like to see what stationary you bring on your trip. I recently went to Hawaii and I kept it very minimal and brought my TN passport and only 1 fountain pen. I decided to enjoy the trip and only use my TN once in a while to document my activities and not feel pressured to fill it out everyday. I watch a lot of stationary/planner creators and many of them feel the guilt to back-fill empty pages. While I understand the reasoning of not wanting to “waste” the pages, I think about it in a different way. I think of my purchases as cost-to-use ratios. If I buy something for $30 and use it 30 times, that means the cost utilization is $1. If I use it more than 30 times, then the cost utilization comes down to less than a dollar and I can justify that purchase was worth it. I don’t worry about every page being filled out, but did I use it enough to justify the cost? I know this method may not work for everyone, but it works for me.
That's a good way of thinking...are you an accountant by any chance? 🙂 You're sounding like my partner who thinks in the same way. So does undated notebooks work better for you? I can use my undated ones many times because I can have multiple short entries on one page. And in terms of covers, I totally see myself using this one for ages to come. It was expensive but the cost to ratio would be worth it in the end. I have back-filled my Hobonichi Cousin before although not all the time. Some pages I just let it be. Can't be too anal about empty pages... I'd have no time for anything 😂 I'm trying to make time for myself and not spend time on things like being picky about sticker placement on a page like I used to years ago.
@@toxmot Hahaha that is such a funny comment! I am not an accountant, but I am definitely a numbers person. I studied chemical engineering and now work in research & development. I usually think in numbers so I’m very logical in that way. That’s cool that your partner is the same way! I think one day I’ll buy a BK Truly Yours cover because I’m sure I can use it enough to justify the purchase. And I totally know what you mean. As I grow older, I tend not to care about some things that I used to. I see my little sister who cares about mundane things that truly don’t matter in the long run. Even though I tell her it’s meaningless, she doesn’t listen to me. I think she has to figure it out on her own as she grows up and experiences more things. It’s the same thing with our stationary. We evolve and grow as we try more things. I wish I had the courage and skill to make RUclips videos about stationary like you do. I think it will help me connect with more people who love stationary. But I think I’ll stick to my skillset and watch and comment on people’s videos lol.
@@toxmot Oh and about the undated planners, yes I like them because I can stop and start it anytime and not have to worry about wasting pages. I was using one for a while but realized that I like the dated planners so I can pre-plan more easily by writing future events on the right dates so I don’t forget them. I’m loving my hobonichi weeks right now.
I will probably do a video then, I like the recap idea too! Thx for sharing your thoughts. I hope to not end up with an excessive haul. Going into it with intention. 💕
I really like your TN set up-very simple and I would like to see what stationary you bring on your trip. Also have fun in Japan and hope its fun and amazing!!!
I love the BK Jiyu weekly insert. It's the only planner I've really stuck with and found a way to use (mostly meal tracking and chores). Even the blank spots are lovely. I plan to use it again next year, though once again I'll be trying to resist the temptation to buy a hobonichi.
This TN is so beautiful and I love that its already looking well loved! I have the black card pocket on the black panel of mine too, but I always admire the zipper pockets! I'm with you on the planner contemplation this year. I can't tell you what to use, but as someone who previously traded years between jiyu and hobonichi for a planner, I'm trying out plotter this year. The DP paper is beautiful for the actual weekly section, but I figured for note/journal/daily pages I can get packs of my preferred a5 paper (like Tomoe river) to hole punch and use alongside the planner section. I'm hoping it will help with the pressure of use vs/waste since I can add and remove pages as needed and relieve the shared feeling of me serving the planner instead of it being the other way around. That said, since I noticed you explore art, so if you go with hobonichi: by the end of the year I've always loved carrying it over into the next and using all of the leftover daily pages for ink practice drawings and practicing brush strokes and line control. For some reason I feel a lot less pressure about making mistakes and ugly, exploratory marks when the sketchbook in question is an expired planner. Maybe that can be a consideration, too!
Thank for your suggestions, I do want to explore more ink sketches in the coming year.. especially with Hobonichi. I think for that project, the a6 techo would be great. I actually do want to draw something everyday as opposed to journaling everyday so the dated planner should work for me in that way. I've been carrying it sometimes out with me (the custom black TN) so it definitely is well broken into by now. It's just a perfect notebook cover. I love how I can contain everything inside. I love Jiyu! I'm probably going to be using it for next year too!
@@toxmot I'll have to check back on your channel then should you share the sketch project! I've considered an a6 for a draw every day challenge so many times, but I always stop myself with the realization that I'm not sure I need *another* dedicated sketchbook lol. And with you on the perfect notebook cover. I have a blue bk truly yours that's 5 year old or so and every time I've tried to switch into a different cover, its been incredibly short lived. They're hard to beat! I have a hard time departing from Jiyu every year as well both because I love that insert, but I also always miss using my cover as much as possible. I hope you have many happy years with your black one!
i'm currently contemplating the same thing since life gets on the way and daily journaling isn't feasible for me at the moment that I think I might go away from hobonichi despite the temptation daily in august lol I've been meaning to go back to bulletjournal just so I don't have any guilt over empty pages but I do love my TN regular too so... God, show me the way please haha
Your TN cover has such nice details and it's so timeless (and you put a 5 yen coin in the front^^) And if you do stop by a Traveler's Factory store, they have a stamp rally until September 10th where you get a little passport booklet if you make a purchase. If you collect 3 stamps then you get a sticker. Not sure if you're into stamp rallies but thought I'd mention it if you have plans to see the different stores. You would need to pick up the little passport booklet by August 31st. Hope you have a great trip ( ̧⸝⸝⍢⸝⸝)ෆ
Oh yes, thx..it is 5 yen. Stamp rally sounds so fun. Thx for telling me about it! I will see if I can participate. I definitely will be visiting traveler's factory 😊

Ooh yes on a stationery bag video. “Stationery shopping… I’m not going to go too crazy "... Famous last words LOL. Have fun in Japan!
Haha, I hope I don't completely lose self control in Japan! I will only buy with intention 😅
Id love to see what youre bringing on your trip, recap once back as to what u actually used or wish u had, and a mini haul!

What bus the name of the fountain pen that you love? I like I too!
Opus 88
What a beautiful custom TN! I love how thoughtful you are in the design. Have fun in Japan!! I’ll look forward to your Insta updates x

Love your set up & holder beautiful 🖤 The dip pen is also gorgeous, where is that from please? Thnx
The dip pen is called Fonte pen. I know Yoseka sells it but I got mine from a shop in Toronto called Oomomo.

whaaat i didn’t know pilot has a luxurious looking frixion..i’ll definitely buy one now lol
Hehe they do! I got it on amazon japan.

What type of ink do you use for that dip glass nib? I have one too
So far I've tried Ferris Wheel Press's inks.
