How Could This HAPPEN?!? Iron Menace Review - Dorney Park

  • A quote from my favorite movie, "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." That's exactly how I feel about B&M after riding their latest dive coaster, Iron Menace. To be up front, I didn’t have high hopes for this attraction. After two months of failed trips to get to Dorney Park, I had plenty of time to read all the reviews, so I tempered my expectations. I still knew this was a product from Bolliger & Mabillard and they are known for building reliable, dependable, all-around solid roller coasters.
    Well, I made it to Dorney Park, headed straight for Iron Menace and rode it twice in a row which only led me to one major thought… How could this have gone so horribly wrong????

    I think B&M have changed something in the manufacturing and design process for their track. Nemesis Reborn has an awful rattle, while it doesn't make the ride rough you can feel yourself vibrating in a lot of slower sections mainly. Mandrill Mayhem is awful as well, so much bouncing where you compare it to a similar ride down the road at Thorpe Park, Swarm is glossy smooth. And by the looks of things, Pnegiun Trek and Pheonix Rising both have a weird vibration as well.

    Was this ride really that painful?
    I got five rides on Iron Menace back in June, and I had a lot of fun with it. You wiggle around a lot, but I didn't find it too uncomfortable. Its got some bite to it, which I really like.
    It has better pacing than the vast majority of rides of its type, it has the best view of the entire park, strong forces, and even solid airtime at points. Of these more "rustically themed" rides Cedar Fair has delivered for us, I'd argue that "abandoned factory" is the most fun of them.
    I'm not going to say that the tracking isn't a problem, but I have at least some faith that Dorney and B&M will sort out the kinks. Candymonium opened with a horrible rattle in 2020, and now it's one of Hershey's smoother rides. Although I will never expect Menace to be as smooth as Candy is now, I still think that the roughness was oversold, and I can name at least half a dozen other B&Ms I think are rougher, along with another have a dozen coasters that opened within the last 10 years. It wasn't too much rougher than something like Banshee at Kings Island, which is a top coaster for me. If you like Banshee, you probably have an increased chance at enjoying Menace.
    Speaking of Banshee, that's Menace's biggest issue for me- Its track length is way too short (currently the 4th shortest B&M in the states), and because of this, it has an unapologetically low element count. Maybe if Menace had an extra element at the end, instead of being cut short (resulting in the track imperfection), perhaps Menace would have scored better for me too.

    I think we are starting to see the end of B&M. They look and act like they are stuck in the 90s when they were the best. They arent anymore. Theres so many better companies now. As for the roughness there is no excuse for a brand new coaster from a considered world class company to rattle. Or have a jolt. Its unacceptable and people have the right to be upset. Its a multi million dollar attraction. Literally every other coaster company doesn't have that problem. Yet somehow B&M does. I think theyll be done by a decade. They dont try anything new. They havent came out with any new models or experiences. Their new coasters are rough. You know its bad when arrow coasters from the 70s rattle less than a new coaster. I think B&M is the modern Arrow. Just refuses to change because they think they are the best.

We are judging for a reason. B&M is a world class company a brand new ride that coaster millions of dollars shouldn't have a jolt. It's unexcusable. This isn't the 1980s when coasters were hand built. We have some of the most advanced technology now and yet they have issues. This isn't a coaster issue. It's a B&M issue. Literally no other company makes coasters that rattle this much when new. I cant think of a single Intamin or RMC or mack that has jolts and rattles. It's a shame cause B&M used to be good. As for you complaining about it. Someone has to cause B&M needs to stop being stubborn and adopt new technology and experiences or else they will be forgotten and the company that didn't bring anything new to the table. Their last new design was their flying coaster in the mid 2000s. That's it. They don't adopt new ways to design rides or new elements. They just have their cookie cutter elements. They are literally modern arrow besides the fact they change the elements for the height. That's it though. They haven't brought a new element. All they use is dive loops, immelmann, loops and zero g rolls. That's it and sure alot of other companies do that. But at least they also have outer banks and stalls and airtime hills and other unique elements. B&M just does control c, control V to all their coasters. It's getting old real fast. It's not the 90s. It's time to step up your design process. Add new experiences and elements and actually do something different for once.

Go ride in your car on the turnpike if you want smooth everything. There is a point to the rattle - to make it more than just gliding! I am sure some will not agree and others will! Parks need to boycott b and m for all models except for the hyper for a while. Rattle or no rattle... i love a defensive ride... they just arent interesting. Manta at sea world san diego is a mack family launch and its way more fun than emporer, their dive. Also, floorless and inverts are exponentially more fun than wings and dives. I feel bad for parks whenever they drop 20 mill on these average average experiences. This is coming from someone who has adored this company for 25 years. @XscreamThrills they just used to be soo good. The best CAD, the best profiling, the most smooth. But they got boring and mild while the rest of the industry went the rmc intamin direction. And then rough manufacturers became smooth and then b and m got rough. And they waste so much space in their layouts. Theyre either formulaic or when they arent, it feels like filler. Their airtime hills are perfect on the hyper, but they put an airtime hill on a wing and everyone scratches their heads lol

    This video confused me.
    I completely and utterly disagree with you. I rode it a few times last week and thought it was not only smooth as butter, but had a great layout as well. Every person I was with agreed it was awesome and all of the GP around us were clapping at the end of every ride.
    I felt next to zero rattle…and the fact that you think this is the second worst rattler you’ve ever ridden from B&M makes me question your judgement to be honest. That simply cannot be true. I’m sorry, but it can’t. I have ridden a mountain of B&M’s and some of them feel like actual torture devices. This one is brand new and absolutely doesn’t even come CLOSE to the worst ones I’ve been on. Not even the same zip code.
    This video is off base as hell. I think you are exaggerating for clicks to be honest with you. I don’t say that as a personal insult, but this opinion is actually absurd. Iron Menace is a fantastic new coaster and absolutely adds to Dorney as a whole. This is actually the first review I’ve seen of it that was negative. You mention that you’ve “read the reviews”. Which ones? Every one I’ve read/seen has landed somewhere between “it’s fine but not my fav” to “incredible”.

    • @XscreamThrills
      @XscreamThrills  Месяц назад +2
