At his best, before the second injury that curtailed his speed by 15-20km, Waqar was the GREATEST EVER. No doubt in my mind. I struggle to find someone better, more accurate and more destructive than Waqar at his peak-that's why in the first half of his career a very high percentage of his wickets were LBW and bowled. And what was frightening was that he produced prodigious swing at very high speed making him unplayable against even the BEST batsmen of his era. Waqar's best was better than anybody else's best. No one comes near.

In Germany, I happened to meet a 55 year old former club cricketer from England in a pub. He told me he had seen waqar bowl in 1991-1992 period in one of their county pitches from the lower side stand. He swore he broke the 100 mile barrier several times. Pity there weren't speed guns back then..
As a batsman you can easily gauge it's speed with or without speedometer. In the present era of speedometers, he is even more sure Waqar broke the mark
This is the trailer of bowling through out 70's, 80's and 90's. No short boundaries, no restricted power plays, less protective gear, no super charged cricket bats. This was real cricket.
Although I can’t comment about 70’s, 80’s cricket since I only started following the game during the 90’s , the brand of cricket played during those days was amazing to watch. It used to be an equal competition between the bat and the ball unlike today when it is all about keeping the crowd entertained by hitting it out of the park. Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Shaun Pollock, Allan Donald, Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan, Heath Streak, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed were legendary bowlers. Not sure if that caliber of bowlers could be seen in modern cricket.
This was when Waqar was bowling at express pace. I wish they had speed guns then. You only saw their use late in his career when his pace dropped. He bowled so many teams out on his own when pak were on the verge of heavy losses. NZ, Sri Lanka, Windies to name a few. As soon as the ball started reverse swinging, good luck!
Makes sense. It would be good to see it recorded on a speed gun. Waqs was super quick through the air. A number of great batsmen mentioned there wasn't any fast bowler quicker in this regard.

That was Tony Cozier, the West Indian commentator who said that, not the South African commentator.
It was all playable balls, nothing can be done for chokers.
Great bowler❤
SA somehow find a way to do this. Plus Waqar with his pace was deadly and if there was reverse swing on offer, he was double dangerous.

Alan Donald and waqar Younis were definitely hitting 150 kph in those matches
I think Bishop, Donald and Waqar all got over 150kph in this series
101 without loss to lose the match, Waqar Younis choked them brutally. SAFrican batsmen thought its a piece of cake.
Now a days 350-400 score is usual but there hardly any thrill and excitement left in the games.
What a dangerous bowling attacks in Pakistan brilliant Pakistan
One of the highlights of 90s was Inzamam being runout. Had he not been runout so many times, his record would have been even more formidable.
