What a program! Drum Corps has really changed from my era. It left behind the typical neighborhood kids that it was benefiting. I do appreciate all the effort these young people put into their show. Awesome. I participated in drum corps from 1961 until entering the Navy after 1967 season. I now get enjoyment from watching my granddaughter participate in marching band in high school. Thank you for sharing this.
YEAH I THINK JUST A LITTLE BIT SINCE YOU'RE ERA 1961 !!!! AND NOW SEEING PHANTOM REGIMENT AT THERE VERY BEST LOOKS AND MUST SOUND LIKE A TIME 💥 WARP, I MEAN THE REAL DEAL. THIS IS TRUELY AWESOME AND WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE SHOW OF SHOW'S!!!!!!
Wow, 86 and 89. Two completely different seasons for you. The '87 show was my favorite and the '88 show was a miracle. I marched Madison during the years you marched Regiment. That '88 show was just so stunning. I watch it very often. I really only watch '88 Regiment and '88 Cavies much anymore - sometimes us, but no one else.
Thanks for posting this! It compliments their finals show nicely. SCV's show was great too. But I'm such a big Phantom Phan, wish they won in '89. Sorry to see Santa Clara not marching in 2023. Such a great corps. Hope they are back in 2024. I marched against both SCV and Phantom in 75 and 76 with Guardsmen. I respect both corps very much! Too many corps (including my Guardsmen) have folded. To ALL who marched and march corps now, my very best to you!
@@kt6550 there is a Google post from dec 12 from the corps, also around the same time from flow marching. I saw it also on various RUclips drum corps posts.
I'm generally not one of the "everything was better back then" guys, but it does make me sad to think this probably wouldn't score well now. Great corps, great show, great season.
You mean exceptional marching and beautiful music (not todays snippets/cut and splice/lack of tonality or melody) played WELL would not score well?? Judges would be out of their minds to actually see and hear MUSIC being MARCHED well-Not saturated with dancing, visuals, props, more dancing, microphones, non identifying "uniforms" , and more props. Today's shows are blindingly giving you guys the impression that this is what a marching ensemble is. Yes. Times have changed, but judges and audiences would love to see and hear a musical marching ensemble on the field. The activity is about MUSIC.
True, and the Performance scores reflect this. The GE judges, however, were taking demand into consideration as well. Look at the first two minutes of each show, for example. There's no question that SCV's drill was faster and riskier.
@@cavalier9915 We won Visual and Brass what killed us on finals night was D'angelo judging drums. PR was 2nd in qrtrs and semis in percussion and he dropped us to 5th by half a point. We lost by .4 He never judged finals again.
All I want to do is march now. Their drill is off the chain. They were ahead of their time. More people should have watched this in a year. 89 Phantom Regiment, a vintage year.
Beat ALMOST all other previous 1st place scores. Garfield '85 and Devils '86 also got a 98.4. Personally, as someone who marched '89, I think all scores, at least across the top 8, were too high.

I remember watching this as a freshman in highschool. Way before "go pros" and streaming. The anticipation was too much!
What a fun summer that was. This was my 4th year out of 5 marching PR.
I probably know you then. SUTA

Santa Clara not marching? Why? When did that happen?

I'd rather pay to see this one the field than half the crap designers make today with props and garbage drill and dancing.
You are correct, i can’t even watch drum core these days it is so bad.
Still hands down my favorite show. I know SCVG won with their second PotA show but this was in my opinion the winner. Musicality was unreal.
I love hearing their warm up of Canon and Firebird. Chills everytime. And Amazing Grace is so emotional to hear them play
My favorite DCI show of all time. Thanks for the upload!
Imo the second movement was one of the best things ever put on a football field.
Another example of a 2nd place show, cleaner than the winner on the night.. fantastic show.

Thanks for posting this. This was a defining show in my drum corps journey.
C’est très magnifique bravo bravo 👏
That ending though 😎

I STILL LOVE ❤️ THAT SHOW SO MUCH TOO 💥💥💯💯❤️👍😎
Me at 1:50 literally, "do it, DO IT, YES!"
Me at 11:28 "DO IT TO ME AGAIN!!!!"
One of the best shows ever written and played -DG 1988 Madison Scout
Definitive Phantom Regiment. It is our duty to expose younger generations to this.
What a great show to watch live!
Nice cookie recipe👍
Absolutely brilliant!
Is this the best year in DCI history? It's got to be up there.
1990 was better jmo
@@georgedixon9863 nope, lol

Rip the homie
PR beat SCV in Brass by 0.1. In what deaf universe? Good God. This was easily 0.5 better than SCV splatting all over the place.
MY FAVORITE CORPS PREFORMED MY FAVORITE SYMPHONY ❤️💯😱🔥💥🎇🎆👍💪😎😜🤪☝️🏆 YEAH!!!!! HEY SCV GOOD JOB 👍 ON YOUR REPEAT . NOT 🚫!!!!!!
Anyone else clap for their phone at the end? 🤓 Brilliant performance. Gave me chills.
If you don’t get chills at 2:04 you’re not really human.
This sounds different from normal, which night was this of?
Quarter finals I believe
Best show this year besides Florida Wave.
AHOO

Wait is this semis?
I'm wondering the same thing. Some of the camera shots and cuts are different than the finals performance I watched countless times back in the day.
I know it's different because I didn't hear the "judges are you watching?" this time lol
