If you're 20 and fretting about not being able to grow a full beard, patchy, or thin (like I was) give it time, the older you get, the thicker facial gets (for most men). Taken me 10 years, and finally at 30, albeit thin, but I can confidently grow a full beard, and seems to be getting thicker as each year passes by... with my unfortunate caveat being, thicker the beard the thinner my hair gets, but personally, I'd rather be able to grow a full set of hair with a patchy beard than go balding with a full beard... unless you're of em lucky sob's with genetics who are blessed with both. Which is just fucking unfair. Work with what you've got, and save what hair you have left. As for sideburns coming back? Please don't. I personally thin they've never looked good. I don’t think sideburns are coming back and they probably shouldn’t either. The disconnected goatee is pretty popular right now though and looks pretty good for those that can’t grow a full beard. I currently have a beard that is around the “corporate” style. However, my favorite beard style is one that is one that is roughly 3 to 6 inches long and very tightly tapered on the sides. Also, I wear my hair with an off-center part and tucked behind my ears (with a biker / slash Jesus vibe), if that helps).
My barber is a godsend. I didn't know this for such a long time, but grooming your beard so that it's more angular helps you look more masculine. Seems like common sense now, but you don't know what you don't know. Once I adopted that, I've looked a lot better and have gotten compliments that really reinforce how much better looking it is. It's a huge confidence booster! In short, angular trimmed beards, guys! No smooth, rounded stuff.
The corporate beard goes well with a suit and tie. I’ve sort of done this. Mainly prefer clean shaven but a corporate beard (otherwise known as “The Riker Beard) sounds good! Nothing says manly like the “William T Riker” look.
Hey Courtney, I’m glad you covered facial hair styles. I’ve been so insecure lately about the fact I cannot grow a full five o’clock shadow up to the point where I contemplated hair transplants or using minoxidil. But after seeing this video, I’ve been able to accept what it looks like. Thank you ever so much. Keep it up! 😁
@@szililolabu probably getting older. I'm vegan and my beard start growing more from my 22 and I am 24 now. 4 years being vegan so it's the age not the diet.
8:00 - I think it depends on the sideburn style. If you're talking Hugh Jackman style, then yes I agree. If it's like the 1800's Old West bowler/derby hat sideburns, then no.
I have been on and off with faciak hair because it is a lot of up keep. But Courtney's videos have inspired me to do a whole lot of upkeep on physical appearance i.e. skincare and facial hair. So I now have a good, well kept beard now thanks to Courtney.
Get a good safety razor. I like the Zomchi, it's only $20 and us nice and sturdy. You want something like that to sculpt the edges, regardless of length.
I like Courtney Ryan's advice on most things. I don't think her advice on facial hair is bad in general, but in my case, growing facial hair is a bad idea. Here's why: first of all, I just simply don't look good with facial hair. It doesn't grow in nicely. More importantly though, I am 44 years old. Premature gray hair runs in my family. I started going gray in high school. By my early 20s, I was salt and pepper. By 30, I was completely gray. I was always teased and made fun of by guys who always said to dye it. I never dyed it because women love it. I get more compliments on my hair than any other part of me. I have had women stop me on the street and ask if the color is natural and say it's beautiful. Part of what makes it work for me is that I have a young looking face. Even at age 44 my face looks young. Facial hair makes me look older. Plus my facial hair is gray. If I grow it out, I'll just look like an old, unkempt dude. Every girl I've ever dated said she liked me better clean shaven.
Van dykes are underrated in my opinion. I think a plain mustache looks a tad bit off, but having the goatee to go with it balances it out. Edit: I forgot to mention side burns also go in great combination with a van dyke. It elongates the face, but at the same time gives something in the middle to look at. I recently shaved everything except my side burns to the bottom of my ear, and that looked really strange to me.
For me, it's the Corporate Beard or nothing: it's the only beard style I can easily maintain, and virtually the only shape it grows into, while my beard grows in too thick and fast for being clean-shaven to be an option. I was also able to try out the goatee-and-sideburns look a couple of times, but not one really noticed, one way or the other. And since it was so much harder to keep up, I just went back to the Corporate Beard.
Heh, at 46 I'll grow my face hair anyway I choose. I've done all the styles you mention and many more. Corporate Beard is the easiest to maintain. So it's my go to. However, my favorite is the BeardStash but it requires more upkeep and attention. I do love the fact that Masculinity literally grows out of my face! Good tips!
I randomly started being able to grow a full beard about a year and a half ago after over three decades of life without ever being able to grow more than sideburns and a neck beard, and now I’m just rocking it to try it out since I never could before. I definitely put effort into keeping it, and I like to think I have a much more masculine look than I had back before I could grow this.
Since I wear more formal attire and my hair is slicked back, I usually go with the five o'clock shadow since it just works so well for me. Someday when I'm a little older I'd like to try rocking sort of a dandy mustache just for the hell of it.
I’ve always been the type to not have facial hair at all. Although I would be more than capable of growing a beard, I like being clean shaven. I don’t like looking older than I actually am at 27 years old, plus every time I do shave and get my stubble cleared (since I never let it grow out too much into the part of a beard) I always feel refreshed every time.
@@streetfightervsxenoverse1832 I’m not hiding anything, I decide to take care of myself in that way. Besides, looks don’t mean everything and even when I’ve slacked off on shaving if I went a week without it (most times I shave every 3-4 days) I still get told I look younger than I actually am which if anything is a compliment because I’ve always had pretty much the same face since I was 2 years old.
@@lakerskid2013 Dude just let your beard grow and groom it yourself or at the barbershop occasionally, it's Actually more work to try to keep up a un-natural look trying to look like a teenager as a 27 year old man , it's one thing if you can't grow any facial hair , But seeing as you obviously can I don't see why you are running away from it , just grow it simple.
@@streetfightervsxenoverse1832 I’m not running away from anything. It’s not about me looking like a teenager, what the heck? I’m happy and confident with how I look without facial hair. It’s about no different than me being allergic to nuts, never really liked them or any foods with nuts anyway so that doesn’t bother me any. If I couldn’t grow facial hair, it’s the same concept, it wouldn’t have bothered me either way.
@@streetfightervsxenoverse1832 if I couldn't grow facial hair I'd be just fine for instance, the only reason I keep stubble is cause I'm very lazy to shave and hate the feeling of shaving due to getting irritated plus I don't like beards either,so stubble is the only option for me,some people just aren't into beards
I've rocked a Goatee since i was 20. Unable to grow a full beard thanks to scars on my face from being a dangerous thrill seeker and having accidents. The goatee covers a lot of my scars around my chin area. It also depends on many factors. Your job could require you to only keep a goatee. Because fireman or people around industries need to wear a face mask that fits on your face tightly. Also depends on Your style and face of course.
When considering Stubble vs Scruff since you are not constantly cutting it, scruff is generally softer, even though stubble is better looking. Form vs Functionality.
Courtney you should do something on facial care. My ex GF would always put lotion and stuff on my face and I fought against it like when you try to give a dog medicine but after we broke up I noticed my skin would look nasty and dry so I started getting into different moisturizers and stuff and my skin is better than most women now.
Old Russian song - I have a beard / tell me Yes ..... and I have used it as a pick up line quiet often. This always worked best for me when in winter when I was growing the full Santa Beard. Come January - The Goatee is back - 5 oclock stubble will hit in the summer.
Shaved head with scruff here. Had a lot of good comments about my beard. I had a stubble/bit shorter beard before that. Will not go back to clean shaven. Love how I look like this and my skin feels better too.
Courtney’s channel has been a blessing me. I’ve picked up a lot of pointers from her content. My style has gotten better over time. 🙌 To my single fellas, it shall come to pass that we will findeth our own Courtney.
If your cheeks aren’t the best but your mustache and chin grow well, I highly suggest you search RUclips for Mariano Di Vao beard style. He did a very detailed video on the “Italian beard” style. I’ve done this look for a couple years now and still love it.
My grooming kit was sooo worth the purchase. Personally being blonde makes sporting these looks a bit more challenging I'll be trying the 5 clock shadow. 🤔 funny how this also looks like stroking facial hair lol
Stuble works great for guys with dark hair. We guys that have light coloured facial hair have to grow it for a good month before someone notices we have anything there. Ha ha
Yeah,I sometimes really hate the fact that I can shave in the morning and by mid-late day I already look like like I have stubble,I gave up the pointless fight and just keep it at stubble with the trimmer and not shave anymore
Interesting video. I was a little surprised to hear the mustache is becoming popular again. I was also surprised the goatee is not on the list as I still see a lot of men wear one. If you go with the mustache, my personal reccomendation is to not add stubble to it, as it will detract from the mustache; which makes a bold statement in itself. If you grow a goatee, my personal recommendation is to add some sideburns to it, to add balance. If you want a good beard trimmer, and you can find different brands with this feature, I reccomend a beard trimmer with a vacuum feature, as it will cut down on the mess you'll generally leave on the sink while using other trimmers.
I do the goatee because my chin isn’t as strong as I’d like and it helps, but I keep it very well maintained. It is also just the bottom of the chin excluding the soul patch area under the lip....Pharaoh style, but short, maybe 3/4 of an inch at most.
I rough cut. A razor gives me a burn, but just going for short stubble is easy and it works. I run a clipper over it before work and get on down the road.
The thing is, I've been having these cuts since 2013. No women never say anything to me or how good that I look with that hair cut. I was 19 and now I'm 29 still doing hair cuts like this. 4:53
Does the 5 o'clock shadow/stubble "style" still work, or look best if you are a Grey beard? (Especially if you are an older male and want to attract a YOUNGER woman.)
I grew up at a time when icons like Rojer Moore, Elvis and Superman (Christopher Reeve) were appreciated for their good looks and nice grooming. But somewhere along the way things went wrong. Now everything is tainted and anything goes.
I'll be honest with you I live in Algonquin park in a cabin no water or power just me and my wolves it's my life don't think to many women will ever relate

Long beard -> beard balm. 🙏
Oh cool. Thanks for the discount code. Will go with my lawnmower kit. As an older dog, I've had to accept the grey starts at the roots and can't be trimmed off.
7:22 following the mustache comeback that really started bubbling in 2020 during lockdowns but took off in 2022, sideburns definitely started making a comeback late last year. It might still be a few months, but by 2024 you're going to see them a lot more. Maybe not full-on mutton chops, but definitely more prominent than in the past decade or so.
Yes, I strongly dislike sideburns. Gonna be a trend if so, which, is nothing I care about. I rock the stubble. Not a fully conscientious choice, because I don't have rich facial hair growth for a full-on beard. I have to use what I was given.
I had some heavy sideburns for like a month, and it just turned me into a menace honestly. I was just an asshole, partied way harder, and overall had a great time. Don’t recommend for long periods of time, or if you have a lot to lose, but certainly interesting how much it affected my behavior
Thank you, Courtney, for this program. I loved the part when you said, "praise the lord". Especially since I have the beard and mustache with long hair, I resemble Jesus. It may not be the popular look, but it is popular with me since I will be auditioning for the Passion of the Christ sequel. The Resurrection. Keep putting out these very professional and informing videos. I will check out the Manscape products.
I now wear a Goatee, as it makes me look a little older than when I do shave. I like to keep it as a stubble, but sometimes I forget to trim it, so it looks more like a scruff. However, if I do keep it as a scruff, I will trim the neck line and the small patch of hair on my cheeks that doesn’t even connect to my beard.
Back when I was in High School guys were growing Full Beards, Sideburns, and Mustaches. I had full Mutton-Chop Sideburns (at 16). Now, I rock the Goatee with full silvery/grey. 🤷🏻♂️
I saw a fellow man on the train with sideburns - very professional. Just a little besides the ears. This style requires the same maintenance as fade: only for natiral angular face with skinny to cut body type I recommend. Maybe harder to get straight but can be done at home.
My beard is roughly 6 1/2 inches long red, brown, and mostly white grey and I have it braided with silver extensions in the front with silver and gold beads usually 2-4 tiny braids. I have a lot of fun with it and aim for Viking or Pirate look. I do get many people men and women smile and I can tell they are looking at them. and there is others that will outright tell me that they like it, some have even walked across a short distance to tell me. Not that I am but I have had guys that I would assume would be gay even rave that they thought it looked cool. Some little old ladies told me to shave my beard off often, and when I braided it, and put beads in it they didn't tell me that anymore they just smiled and blushed. Could you do a opinion pole of all beard types and see where the Viking look sits? I like all videos on how people perceive one another, you do a really good job. Thanks for your videos 🙂
I have some pretty good chops/soul patch combo. I think it looks good on me, and I've gotten a lot of compliments plus people who think my color is fake. (Golden red highlights.)
I keep a little bit of stubble for like 2 days but then I shave idk I like my face not filling full especially when I run during the summer and winter the hair just makes me sweat more. Id rather just keep my face clean. As is I know the beard gives a mature look but lets be honest there a bunch of guys who have that kind of look but will be the most immature people ever 😂
Facial hair trends come and go and then return. I have tried various styles, but in the end I look the best when I am totally clean-shaven and have short hair. This of course will vary a lot from guy to guy.
I’m somewhere around the corporate beard. My facial hair has a very finite amount of length but it’s more than enough to cover the bottom part of my face in full. I keep it mostly because my jawline is not sharp at all and my chin is really close to my bottom lip, so it makes that part of my face look less round

Keep it up! 😁
FWIW - my facial hair got a lot fuller from either getting older or eating a lot more animal foods since I quit being vegan
As a guy incapable of growing any facial hair, I thank you for this video Courtney!😂👍🏽
use minoxidil
@@2jz-boi sure mate,will check it out👍🏽
Thank you
Low testosterone?
@@pulsarlights2825 i have high testosterone i am 42 and no beard ^^
@@lastskywalker2481 Yeah, it's 99% genetics, same with balding.
I have been on and off with faciak hair because it is a lot of up keep. But Courtney's videos have inspired me to do a whole lot of upkeep on physical appearance i.e. skincare and facial hair. So I now have a good, well kept beard now thanks to Courtney.
Chris hemsworth, is that you??
😉😁
Get a good safety razor. I like the Zomchi, it's only $20 and us nice and sturdy. You want something like that to sculpt the edges, regardless of length.
❤️🥹 love to hear it
I agree it take a lot more work to keep up and maintain than one would think.
@@dontheador6649 nah bro, women are worth it 😂
I've had the sideburns since the 2000s and have always kept them mid ear length.
Is hard to pull off
@@rndm7528Yeah it sure is. Imo Spaniard and Italian people pull it off great.
I normally stay pretty clean cut, but when I happen to let my beard grow for about two weeks, I notice girls really love it.
Good tips!
You do not want to run the risk of being " Mr Neck beard " ! That line had me in stitches lol
At the moment, I don’t have much facial hair but I’m only here to support Courtney lol
😂 appreciate you lol
haha
Try minoxidil and derma rolling bro
Try not to be gay
I’ve always been the type to not have facial hair at all. Although I would be more than capable of growing a beard, I like being clean shaven. I don’t like looking older than I actually am at 27 years old, plus every time I do shave and get my stubble cleared (since I never let it grow out too much into the part of a beard) I always feel refreshed every time.
You are actually hiding what you are supposed to really look like at 27 by shaving off what you are supposed to have as a man.🤷
@@streetfightervsxenoverse1832 I’m not hiding anything, I decide to take care of myself in that way.
Definitely recommend growing a beard if you can, my wife suggested i do it and now i wouldn't be without it!
Maybe a Beard Oil or Beard Balm might be something to try as an alternative to lotion. Check out Dan C for some good options.
Old Russian song - I have a beard / tell me Yes ..... and I have used it as a pick up line quiet often. This always worked best for me when in winter when I was growing the full Santa Beard. Come January - The Goatee is back - 5 oclock stubble will hit in the summer.
The Goatee is best matched with black leather and a motorcycle. Never miss recipe for the weekends.
Working with what you’ve got is key. A more full beard helps those of us with a weaker jawline (and/or double chin).
Faded beard and stubble is top teir to women trust me
Shaved head with scruff here. Had a lot of good comments about my beard. I had a stubble/bit shorter beard before that. Will not go back to clean shaven. Love how I look like this and my skin feels better too.
I don't typically laugh at RUclips videos but you made me smile a couple times with your comments in this video. Well done.
Courtney’s channel has been a blessing me. I’ve picked up a lot of pointers from her content. My style has gotten better over time. 🙌
To my single fellas, it shall come to pass that we will findeth our own Courtney.
This woman knows her stuff.
The handle bar mustache is coming back.
No idea what kind of shape face I have. So, no idea what my options are. But, I keep my face clean shaven.
You should do a cologne video on what smells are most attractive! Thank you for the video’s your killing it !
Hey Courtney, keep up the amazing work !
Thank you! ❤️
I rough cut. A razor gives me a burn, but just going for short stubble is easy and it works. I run a clipper over it before work and get on down the road.
I just rock the traditional style full beard and trim it once or twice a week. Everything else seems subjective and opinionated which is fine
No one cares neck beard
The thing is, I've been having these cuts since 2013. No women never say anything to me or how good that I look with that hair cut. I was 19 and now I'm 29 still doing hair cuts like this. 4:53
I feel old school for still being clean shaven. It’s uncommon nowadays but I feel the most confident this way.
Interestingly, research, at one time, showed that clean-shaven guys were deemed the most trustworthy in business relationships.
Does the 5 o'clock shadow/stubble "style" still work, or look best if you are a Grey beard? (Especially if you are an older male and want to attract a YOUNGER woman.)
Imho the Faded Beard is not an own style. You can add fades in every beard style. For example, I wear a low boxed beard with fading sideburns.
I love when Courtney makes vary of videos to help men. I like a man well groomed.

Hey thank you Courtney but I'm very much computer illiterate i don't have Facebook so I don't believe I can message back on telegran

First of all an huge thanks to Courtney who keep up an amazing work with this channel 🥇 between 20 years old to 35 i went from goat chin beard to 25cm untamed Viking beard and then to 5mm beard, my own personal beard rules all these years was "No Mustache!" 😁 Everyone have to find their own unique style to have an good balance on their character ⚖️ Short beard -> beard oil.
I wish I could grow a beardstache. Christian Bale in Hostiles is goals.
Growing the long pointed goatee myself.
Great info, thanks!👍🏼
Yes, I strongly dislike sideburns. Gonna be a trend if so, which, is nothing I care about.
I rock the stubble. Not a fully conscientious choice, because I don't have rich facial hair growth for a full-on beard. I have to use what I was given.
I had some heavy sideburns for like a month, and it just turned me into a menace honestly. I was just an asshole, partied way harder, and overall had a great time. Don’t recommend for long periods of time, or if you have a lot to lose, but certainly interesting how much it affected my behavior
The beardstache >>>>>
Courtney gonna need A fashion/clothing style vid next plz
You kill it keep it coming!
Thanks for the info Courtney
Thank you for this I feel confident now
Back when I was in High School guys were growing Full Beards, Sideburns, and Mustaches.
Dang it.. I’m currently rocking the goatee because it’s the only full facial hair I can grow 😅
(Golden red highlights.)
have had a mustache since college.
I rock the cleanly shaven look.
I stick with the 1st one. Unfortunately, I don't have a very full beard. So the 1st one is the easiest one for me to pull off.
My barber works for the Chicago Bulls, i go every 2 weeks, its a MUST fellas. Do it!
I need a Courentey like you in my life. Lady you drive me crazy!
