This is a real teen star. Not that stupid shit we see today. Michael Jackson was a REAL talented artist.
As were his brothers. There was no dead weight on that stage. They were playing their OWN music.
Totally agree
too mutch better then N'sync or backstreetboys...
I KNOW RIGHT
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY WAS HE IS STIL IN OUR HEART
That voice was a gift. He was a prodigy.
hhhk20 but he’s innocent 😇
hhhk20 and you are ugly an hillbilly sitting at home on a stink ass roach infested couch , dickhead 😭🤣🤣🤣
hhhk20 idiot do your research and learn your facts
I'm amazed at Jermaine's ability to play bass so well while still stepping to the beat.
HRwatchinpuff WOW!!! To be You back then! With them "The Jackson 5" ACTUALLY...Wooo ^_^!
me too! :-)
And the guitar playing too! dancing while doing harmony and playuing guitar? impressive is not enough to describe it.
+Jonathan Castillo After getting beat by his dad a bunch of times he couldn't get it wrong.
+Jonathan Castillo It's more amazing that he can also sing while doing it
Michael’s voice was cracking around this time.. always liked this performance
Please view video on RUclips titled: google: what happin to the king of pop.mov
His voice was changing & getting deeper right in front of you
It sound like a mix of his voice dropping and vocal damage from years of touring
I am so amazed that Jermaine is able to play motown groove bass and sing at the same time. I kind missed the fact that he did some choreography too! Totally underrated talent there.
Agreed and on the love you save
Jermaine is very talented indeed
That's hard as hell to do!
I Met Jermaine 7n City i l7ve in Germany play Bass as well wanted to ask h7m bass questions
He was truly a talented bassist.
MJ was a straight up bad ass!
Uh, so were the Jackson 5, bruh.
Whole Group was Fire..Tito & Jermaine beast on Guitar & Bass while singing & steps all at once. Marlon was a beast too on Dancing..Its a reason why Marlon did most of the groups Choreo & called the dancingest sibling..checkout Marlon's best moments video
you can say that again.
Man..Jermaine is an underrated bass player
Lol..tito on bass..
@@rednblkchevelle Tito on lead
Tito on the lead and Jermaine on the bass🤝🔥
He's an absolute killer on bass !
Dennis King Tito was the bass singer that’s what he meant🤣
Real singing no auto tunes, stage presence out of the stratosphere. Talented personified.
Don't sleep on the Jackson 5, people. There were no grown men playing guitar or bass up there (nor in the wings). Jermaine and Tito were playing live. I witnessed this with my own eyes and ears.
Don't forget the Jackson 5 hits were recorded at Motown, where they had little creative control. Motown used session musicians and had multiple guitars and other instruments that can't be reproduced live. It's not going to sound the same as a studio-produced record. Jermaine's bass is rocking by the way.
Your absolutely right! And Jermaine was a great bass player he was very under rated
Musa Yobabydaddy Tito never played bass on Heartbreak Hotel,in fact none of the brothers played anything or sang on the recording of it.LaToya did the scream, but though it's on the Jacksons Triumph album,it's basically a Michael solo record
They did play live, but the Funk Brothers are the musicians on their records.
TheJohnmusk Jermaine is killing it! He actually has some Jaco going on in the bounce and percussion of his playing. Listen to the sound and see him plucking near the tailpiece. Totally consistent with him playing. Also, I saw this live on another clip with mistakes. Clearly not a studio ringer. Finally, notice George Duke on keys?
TEARS... LOOK AT OUR PEOPLE...WE DON'T KNOW HOW TALENTED WE ARE...LOOK AT THE BEAUTIFUL AUDIENCE WITH THEIR NATURAL AFROS....BLESSED....
Amen!
Period
Blessed is right. If we truly knew. This would be a better world.

Every time we are after rich and fame, these questions should we ask from ourselves:
Mark 8:36
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Luke 9:25
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
Matthew 16:26
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Ecclesiastes 1:3
What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
Can you imagine this world without us😎
Absolutely love Jermaine!!! My favorite bass player not only because he can play the hell outta the bass but he could sing and dance all at the same time. He’s the reason why I picked up a bass as a teenager. I wish when people interview him they would ask him his bass playing. Ive watch every interview Jermaine has done and no one never ask. Larry King asked him and he talked about how he learn to play by ear. And how he was influenced by Jamerson and Larry Graham. Also, Don asked him why he selected the bass. Wish someone would go in deep with Jermaine about his bass playing because he is a Legend. One love from Jermaine number 1 fan.
Jermaine was the real deal on bass. I saw them during that time period. It was like watching a miracle.
He wasn't that good
@@dondamon4669 oh thanks, good to know @_@
I was at this concert at McCormick Place in Chicago; Black Expo (Save the Children). It was a tremendous love vibe. And the Jackson 5 delivered. I am saddened that kids today cannot witness this kind of genuine talent among today's artists. Everything you heard on that stage was genuine; No Backing Tracks. No stage full of dancers. This was real, through and through.
:'( Me too!
Real genuine live performances do still exist, it's just unfortunately not the "main stream" thing to do nowadays.
***** Indeed. I'm going to see Snarky Puppy in Chicago tomorrow to get my fix.
This performance of Expo "72" was NEVER at the McCormick place in Chicago, but the Ampatheater located on 30' something and Halsted.
chris grauf Indeed, I saw them at Gary Westside, McCormack Place and The Ampitheatre during that period. And , yes Black Expo THEN was at the Ampitheatre. Today it is at McCormack. Thank you for the correction.
MJs voice was changing.
Motown made him do that, I guess they really wanted him to sound as much as did when he first started out, so him trying to keep that young voice, it's funny because where most artist I guess that age who would have had deeper voice ranges or whatever, he did his best to beat that, and well yes you can hear him straining during the 73 and up tours to get those high notes but he still slightly could.
I could tell because when he says baby baby baby at the end of the song, he used to go higher within each one. But he kept the same note
Yep this was the beginning of his vocal changes. There were at least a few notes in "I Want You Back" that he used to go higher on that he kept lower.
well he started at like 7 hes in his teens here
His voice was pure and beautiful.
That tempo change at 2:34 is deceivingly difficult to master on a first try in front of a live audience like that. These kids were the real deal..
Most definitely.
Well, Joseph had them practicing practically non-stop. He wanted them to have everything perfected.
Speaking of that, how about Mike skipping across the stage in exact time to the drummer hitting those *nasty* snare drum flams to segue into "ABC" ?!
Stagecraft - musicianship -showmanship.
@@nycsongman9758 Also, I doubt it was their first time doing that melody routine

I had forgotten how good this band was. Great sound, awesome rhythm, and tight as can be. They were just marvelous
I was 10 yrs old living in Mansfield Ohio, Me and a friend would always walk down to the USO Club and play bumper pool. I made sure my mom would give me a dime so I could play the Jukebox in the corner. Always played the same song "The Love you saved". Everytime I hear that song I think of better times. Thank you Micheal and the Jacksons
This is why I love RUclips.
I have one word for this performance WOW!!!! Jackson 5 will go down in history as one of the best bands ever! It boggles the mind to think how much talent there is in the Jackson family. There legacy along with Michael's will live for generations to come.
The Jackson 5 were straight incredible.
MJ was one of the most beautiful human beings the world has ever seen. It broke my heart to see him go through all he went through. RIP Michael Jackson.

Jermaine is an awesome bass player
best comment on here, 100% bad ass on bass and smooth as hell
Indeed and that was also what led to their split from Motown. The guys were truly honing their craft as musicians but weren't allowed to write their own songs or play on their recordings, since Berry Gordy KNEW what the results would be if he had song writers like Smokey Robinson and Ashford and Simpson write the songs. And he also knew what he would get if he had the "Funk brothers" play on the recordings.
So when during the mid seventies their contract came up for renewal, the brothers decided to leave Motown and go to Epic records where they could finally write their own songs and play on their own recordings too. But they had to change the name into "the Jacksons" since the "Jackson five" name was legally owned by Motown.
But Jermaine remained with Motown, since he had married Berry Gordy's daughter and felt like it was betrayal to the father of his wife if he left. He was replaced by Randy Jackson, who as a multi instrumentalist already secured a place with his brothers on stage.
Curtis Arsenault - yeah, one of the very few times you’ll see him acuallity playing the bass. All other times he’s faking it
RastaSaiyaman - you hit da nail on da head. So true🏆
My dad met him when he was in high school and I always think about how lucky he was haha
The original boy band.
A real band.
TheCarin12 Please delete your comment.
You have insulted the Mighty Jackson Five with allusions to
a string of non-organic so-called-bands from the last 20 years.
Well please accept my apologies in that case.
wheelinthesky300 there have been tons of good 'boy bands.' The Beatles, the beach boys etc
TheCarin12 Yeah!
Say whatever you want about Michael's eccentricities as an adult--and some of them appear to be pretty dark--but when it comes to sheer musical genius, there's Michael Jackson...and everyone else.
if he was normal he wouldn't be a star, let alone being the most famous person on earth. normal is overrated :)
Who would wanna give this the thumbs down ??? It is a masterclass in stage craft.. Peace !! Rxx
The thumbs downs probably came from some of the "Johnny come lately" Michael Jackson fans who don't think he had a musical life before Thriller. They refuse to realize that Mike was a thriller from day one. Many of us knew this. We knew it in the late 60's. To be sure, Michael Jackson was in a very, very talented group of brothers who ruled the charts and the tour circuit for years.
The thumbs down doesn't mean much, folks know what they are clicking on, at least we have footage and that's all that matters.
It's hard to find real live versions of these tunes. Although, I know the biggest fans might say otherwise. But this is legit and truly a spectacular performance. It reinforces their legacy.
Good observation. Actually there is a lot of footage from these years, but the modern media wants to hide it. It's easier for the media to promote the narrative of the eccentric superstar Michael Jackson, than to acknowledge his very solid soul music roots with his very talented brothers. It's easier to make jokes about "Tito" (suggesting he was a nobody) when in reality we see in this video a teenager who was the principal (only) guitar player for a world touring act. Ditto for Jermaine on bass. Telling the truth would expose the lack of talent amongst many of today's acts.
Look up the Jackson 5 Live at the Forum. Its a good one!
Raw footage,I love it...now that's real talent. Singing and dancing at the same time, and not complaining about it like the so called entertainers today...My Boys 4life, The incomparable J5💗
One of my favorite performances by J5! Jermaine and that bass are everything. There's another part of this clip somewhere where they also sing "I wanna be where you are" and are doing some serious footwork.

I think it's really funny that we all see clearly how Michael AND his brothers (and probably a crap ton of other 60's and 70's pop/soul stars) dressed on stage and then have the audacity to criticize his 'eccentric' style because he dressed flamboyantly during his performances later in life. Does THAT not look pretty flamboyant to you? And they were ALL dressed like that for a good part of 15+ years. And then you have Lady Gaga who actually DOES dress like she's from outer space and everyone thinks it's fine because she's an innovator of art and fashion. Michael Jackson was one of the most bullied artists I have ever come across and the fact that he didn't give up until his dying day astounds me. And he's still being picked on and slandered 6 years after his death. Cowards. Poor man. He was so kind and talented.
Actually, you're wrong about the fashion observation. The way they were dressed was only a mild exaggeration of the fashion of the times. Ask any black person particularly, who was a contemporary of the Jackson 5 era, and you will find out that most of them (us) owned similar clothing. Including this writer.
You mean to say I'm wrong that only celebrity's dressed like that on stage? ln that I agree. It's true...the fashion of the time was quite outrageous (kinda loved that though). I don't know first hand, since I'm too young, but my relatives have all kinds of photos of the time. So, you are definitely right. What I meant by my comment was that MJ's influences of how 'stage' fashion should be stuck with him throughout his career. They changed but always stayed flashy. There are a number of 'flashy' celebrities before, during and after him that have not nearly been as bullied for it. Just an observation on how victimized he was during his life for things others did as well.
redraven24 Ok. Understood.
You said it right! May god bless you
I agree with you. Michael was,is and forever will be a great music legend.
