My FAVORITE part in the movie. You CANNOT tame the wild. Nor, can you break it, so get off of Spirit’s back, and don’t let the gate hit you on the way back when he escapes~
Which is ironic since despite generally being seen as "untamed wild west," Mustangs are about as native to the Americas as the colonizers that brought them there all those years ago
I love Spirit so much it’s one of my favorite movies when I was a little kid me and my grandma would sit with our popcorn and snacks and watch it I love horses so much but Spirit is definitely my favorite horse/stallion and he really showed that guy that he’s the king and that nobody messes with him or nobody try’s to make him break and I’m glad he showed that guy who’s boss I mean nobody should treat horses or any animal like that I love this scene so much it’s one of my favorite parts of the movie and the song is perfect I love it so much
Folks, NEVER look a horse in the eye and then get frightened. Horses are smart, they sense weakness, and then they take control. A soldier who’s been trained in horseback riding should know that if he’s trying to break a horse.
I remember watching this movie all the time as a kid. Now in my adult years, I start to see the true meaning behind the story which I believe makes it an amazing movie
I love how when the colonel rides spirit, at first Spirit thinks he's just going to be like the other humans, but after a second he realizes he's not going to back down that easily. You can see he uses the same tricks he used with the other riders, like jerking his head back or ramming into the fence, but he gets more and more desperate as he realizes he's losing.
As an equestrian I want to say: Even in real life this is no way to ever start a horse. It’s disgusting how people throw a saddle on a horse and let them buck. They’re terrified and it’s just trauma for them. Them “becoming tame” is actually learned helplessness. The horse realizes no matter what they do, no matter how much they fight for their life, they can’t change their situation and they shut down. Never do this. This movie has some parallels with real life.
Completely agree as a former rider myself this is outright cruel. Breaking a horse is generally done when the horse is young and already around things like saddles and other tack
As a handler myself, the scene always makes me divided. For because I know the character isn't frightened in the scene, but also just knowing they slapped a saddle on a full grown stallion... As I say, "the scene isn't realistic because they never tell the body count afterwards".
Explain why there is this piece of iron at the bottom of the bridle? It doesn't fit in the mouth, so it's not a snaffle. It looks like part of a mouthpiece, but why is it then connected by a metal part between the supposed whiskers of the mouthpiece and where is the separate rein for the mouthpiece. I'm not pestering, but I'm just curious because I didn't understand what kind of harness part this is
I don't know the word for it. I've seen something similar while riding but then it was a chain, not a hard piece of metal. What it does is give greater control over the mouth because if you pull on the reins the piece of metal will push against the back of the mouth.

Lousy heaping horse (something) is what I heard
To break a wild stallion isn't easy at all they are not used to being ridden. Perfect representation I love this song so much
I loved this movie as a kid used to watch it all the time

He's actually based on a real person from that era

It's called a curb bit used to give more control over the horse's movement. Although it's supposed to be used with a light hand
1:04 - 1:10 bros like IMA GET YA

Other stable horses: this should be fun...😈
I’m sure I could “break” that stallion in a flash. Awesome song by the way.
