Looking at your take on Ghostfire Slice, it sounds like you're reading as it it can ONLY hit a multicolored target, but it can hit ANYTHING as long as an opponent has a multicolored creature. It's basically a 1-mana Lightning Bolt that can't be BEB'ed. This card is going to be online 90% of the game, at least.
@Surberus1066 maybe not 90%, but probably a good bit. I'm still not sure who wants it that bad and doesn't care about the naus and is okay with it being offline sometime beyond the decks two colors or less. Could be that it's actually on enough to be worth the slot, though.
I think your review was pretty spot on. The red version of counterbalance will probably become an s tier / staple. That and chithonian nightmare are two of my favorites
I feel like you misread Ghostfire Slice. It's not R if it TARGETS a multicolor creature, it's R if any of your opponents CONTROL a multicolor creature. With most commanders in the format being multicolor and many strong cards in the 99 like Lotho or Kutzil being multicolor, that means Ghostfire Slice is very often just going to be better Lightning Bolt, even if you're just using it against a Dauntless Dismantler.
Lightning Bolt vs Galvanic Discharge: Most people tend to only play lightning bolt in many lists due to the fact it can be a win-con, looping a recursion creature with something like Emiel. So this will not be better than bolt
Tymna Dargo Dargonaut here - we're generally not really into soultrader. We dont run Phyrexian Altar, Skirk prospector already gets us the color we need to loop Dargo, it's a maybe. That said I'm stoked for it in my high power Varina. Its gonna really slot in well there.
31:30 correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think disrupter flute works like that. If you cast it in response to someone casting a basalt, it shouldn't change anything since he already paid for Basalt and its already on the stack. The only thing why flash might be good is that you could do it in someones upkeep
I think the vexing bauble is staple or at least highly playable in non-blue decks. Turning off all the free counterspells lets you never have to worry whenever an opponent is tapped out. Besides that, it also turns off ad-naus combos since those decks often rely on free ramp in order to get enough mana to play their combo. Also, ripples of undeath is perfect for Tayam and maybe other fringe commanders like Meren
Six is insane in U/G/x decks with any type of Intuition piles (especially with Breach) since you can make all choices into winning lines regardless of what you end up with.
Your channel is great as I am starting to explore Cedh a bit after playing casual for a couple of years! I would love to see the video on Nadu I’m sure you can get crazy power out it!
I can imagine like, Tivit or something trying it out over a 2-drop rock. Stealing some mana, drawing, and ramping seems like a lot of good text. Then go get a surveil land or something. Can also be used as a weird protection piece when going for the win? Could fuck up the math if someone has less open mana than they expected
I also like this card, as it is a combined piece of Stax, card draw and ramping. Limited time Stax piece will make opponent think it is not worthy to cost a counterspell on it, but very likely, it will affect their game plan later when it is too late to response. the downside is that your opponent may control the time point of sacrificing. I will definitely test it in my Blood Pod
No way Necrodominance sees play imo. Much worse Necro that can have its draw prevented with removal, is punished hard by Bowmasters, and also turns off your Breach/LED? Nah.
I'll be interested to see how good Cthonian Nightmare ends up being. Its got a some competition in the form of curio, meticulous excavation, and Barrin. Probably depends on what color combo you commander is.
i already brewed a Nadu list because i really like his effect. also i think winter moon is pretty good in low color decks, tho most of them, appart from Kinnan and maybe Ob Nix, aren't that good atm Vexing bauble is a card i really really like. imagine playing it early and hearing your opponents grown because they now can't play their fast mana
Doesn't turn 1 Vexing Bauble shut down Crypts/Moxen/Lotus Petals/LED, and all the 0 cost counters, cascade, discover, etc? That feels like significant stacks for a 1 drop.
Warren soul trader was an instant slot into rakdos the muscle being able to combo with gravecrawler is great. I’ve also seen it get slotted into tayam and korvold decks. Definitely think it could be playable in others.
It's a really cool legend but I'm not sure its quite broken enough to consistently feel amazing in the zone. The combos it enables are kinda card heavy and he doesn't work as an outlet for them. Not impossible to manage but I would expect it to be more fringe.
I’m way higher on Chthonian Nightmare than Six. I don’t usually have a lot of extra lands lying around and I don’t know of any specific combos Six enables. Maybe there’s some cool layered combos there but I don’t see it. Nightmare is just insane in the Dockside decks. It also opens up some pretty sweet Intuition piles like Dockside, Nightmare, Sevinne’s Reclamation.
Cthonian Nightmare just seems cracked with Dockside, right? Aside from the combos, it still reanimates bowmasters/thoracle/etc. That seems really strong. Feel like I'd definitely run this over Cloudstone Curio at least.
For what it's worth, Ashling is WILD for Krark Saka, as is Flare. Pinnacle Monk is also solid there (and for ≤2c red decks). And no interest in Polarity at the moment; too costly. The deck got a lot more deterministic just with this one set.
Polarity I mostly acknowledged because the types of local krark/saka people i run into love those kinda cards. And yeah I was looking at your list and saw the monk and ashling, do look interesting there.
Both Fanatic of Rhonas and Springheart Nantuko have revolutionized my cEDH Titania list. I think maybe Springheart has the most potential in other lists
I’m super hyped for nadu tbh looks like a really cool simic build tbh love to see where people take it it does target when anyone targets as well such a cool commander in both cedh and edh im loving this set lotta cool stuff for Magda and Ellivere my only two cedh lists! Might build that or talion as my third leaning towards talion though edit - nightmare in tayam seems massive
The way you described Invert polarity as "bad against counterspell" is wrong only because it can ALWAYS counter a single counterspell, regardless of the flip. If you win, you change the target of counterspell to Invert Polarity, then Polarity leaves the stack, then counterspell fizzles, and if you lose, you just hit the counterspell, that's how people used to use Misdirection as a second Force of Will. I agree that holding up UUR is too much for the card, but it is always cancel against other opposing counterspells, and fun fact, half of the time can even counter Last Word because the misdirection/fizzle doesn't technically "counter" it.
Depending on your goals, Static Prison, Strix Serenade, Vexing Bauble, and Amphibian Downpour stick out as considerations, but I don't think TnK got any slam dunk staples in this set really.
I can see strix serenade for sure and possibly the static if your going more of a staxy form of blue farm amphibious downpour you really think is possible? Just get a decent storm count and turn off everyone’s creatures and commanders and stuff? Or throw it in with your breach line lol?
This is a pretty reasonable list. Only disagreement I'd have is that Nadu is probably going to be a staple commander for a long time. Yes the "card quality" is low with his synergy pieces, but when every land is coming into play untapped it simply pushes too much value IMO. I'd also consider moving up Woodland to busted and it might be one the new green auto includes given how well it meshes with crop rot. It being able to discount it's own ability is kinda crazy. Personally I'm just glad green got some serious love in cedh for once and hope things are slightly more balanced going forward.
Nadu isn’t bad to bowmaster it gets around it. The card reads “if it’s aland it goes into play otherwise put the card into your hand” it’s not a draw effect so you won’t have to worry about bowmasters.
I think Flare of Duplication is good for Najeela, since lots of times, Najeela is a really good bait in my deck. Under a Silence effect, I can sac Najeela to go double Demonic Consultation/Tainted Pact. I can double Intuition to get all the cards I need to Underworld Breach. And of course, copy an Ad Naus.
the card im the most excited about is chthonian nightmare. It goes inf so easy with already great cards. i also think the red flare is quite busted copy spell for 0 mana will be abused for sure. enables quite a few of thoes inf copy combos.
I mean I love all of the flare cards and respective decks, the black and blue one I love in yuriko. I'm really hopeful for the black goblin and the uncommon to mana, create an artifact deal damage whenever an artifact or a creature dies, I'm thinking the black treasure token goblin will not do as well but who knows. I hope so, the uncommon I think is great fantastic, if it was one extra mana I would strongly not use it but it being a good payoff for artifacts is great
vexing bauble seems super busted to me. Can even be fetched with Urzas Saga and even prevents your opponents from playing their t1 0 mana rocks if you slam this at seat 1
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see myself wanting to play Six like ever. Even in decks that are incredibly permanent focused and want to hit land drops, Six feels like at best a compliment to Underworld Breach since he mills. I almost never find myself with the combination of lands in hand to pitch and permanents in graveyard I need to recast that would make Six better than just playing Eternal Witness.
I get to use him for the first time last night in Rog/Thras. Played him, turned my 3 lands into lotus petals, then when I untapped next turn to combo off no one could profitably interact because he let me recast anything that got stopped. That's a very permanent heavy non breach deck though, but Eric's testing in Korvold he's also loved the card. Also him helping mill permanents and find lands sure doesn't hurt.
I think everyone is sleeping on Charitable Levy. This thing is essentially a tapped rock (go get dual land plains), but you get to inconvenience casting of the next 3 noncreature spells which is very likely going to be all your opponents. Derevi usually uses Emiel and well...Rhonas 4 power achieved. Birthing ritual in Derevi is just fantastic.
