I would double 1 spade, this could show only 3 hearts but as advancer I would think partner would have 4, if partner didn't respond over 2 diamonds from west. then I would bid 4 clubs over 3 diamonds, I understand that this shows 17+ hcp's but the void diamond suit is a huge benefit I think, partner may then correct to hearts if they are flat broke in clubs, My take is the doubling of the openers spade bid too show 4 hearts
Agree with the double in the first round. With just 4 losers, the hand is too strong to overcall directly, and I don't fear the partner converting the double considering I have KQ in spades. Not just that, the double also allows us to easily find either a heart fit or a 3NT game depending on what partner has.
Hi Curt, thanks for the video-very helpful. Is there any clues on how we can tell if the opponents can actually make game? So we can make a sacrifice bid?
Very informative , particularly bidding 3H, however not a mention of losers? The hand had 4 losers and I’d have thought regardless of partners strength that alone would be sufficient to bid further. Disasters do occur but in general with such a long suit what’s our concern. If partner is weak (as was) what our concern in competing? I would have bid over their 3d, and as we saw the have 5d! I’m sorry but I really don’t see the concern about bidding without support from partner?
Assume opponents bid 5 Diamonds over 5 Clubs; On this layout 6 clubs is a good sacrifice but I don’t think it’s biddable - maybe at favourable vulnerability. Any thoughts?
Surprise to go 5c but -1 better than the other got 4d. In fact they may even do 5d. Once we found out it is 4-0 diamond we need to make sure the heart 9 is winning. If east has 10xxx we will down one. Also given west has not bid heart max it has 4 and hence east has 2 heart. Hence we need to draw trump as it can r heart. Hence the real question is whether 5d should be bid.
With a 4 loser count, I would force my P to bid by changing suits to 3!h. P will know I have 4 !h (I didn't use Michaels) and that I have a long suit and a powerful hand. There's also a reasonable chance that P has some of their !ds.
I would have bid 3 Clubs over East's 1 Spade opening. That would have made it more awkward for West. Furthermore if North passes again, then south will not bid again
I would pass, P did't bid, & don't. know the vulnerability. NV /V , I may bid 4C. AFTER LOOKING AT THE VEDIO, I was surprised at 3H bid by Curtis. Makes sense!
So what would double mean on the second round? I can't see how it could be penalties.

I like the challenge idea

Why not double to make partner bid
Also shows the other major

Long time no see, Mary Ellen!

Many play that as a weak jump overcall, so would misinform partner as to your HCP
@@sbpierce9987 Then what would a strong jump overcall be. 2 Clubs is weak and 4 club bid is too high?
Six clubs would be a good sac over 5D. 300 vs 400.
Double!!!
South has only 4 losers - another reason to bid the hearts. Repeating the club suit tells partner that's all you have
The hand is very strong - it has only 4 losers! Only 14 HCP, but very strong shape - bid 3H!
Pass or 4C. They should be in game and against a game, I want a club lead, not a heart lead.
I would pass, P did't bid, & don't. know the vulnerability. NV /V , I may bid 4C.

double
Yes. Use the double for takeout to see what partner responds as their best suit and go from there.
4 club
