    Thanks Curt and Bajir. Good grief that control bidding is so complicated! The bidding system I've been taught that distinguishes between first and second round controls has me in knots. So much opportunity to mess it up!

    There is an Ottawa convention useful here: 2D means I have at least one ace, one king, or two queens, and 2H means I don't have any of those. Opener then bids 2NT and that allows you to use Stayman or transfer to describe your hand.

    Further on Ottawa: opener only bids 2NT in response to 2D. In response to 2H, opener picks the best contract she thinks she can make on her own.

    2C = 23+ so p has 11 so opener must have aC and top 4 hearts (14hcp) - where is the rest ? Diamond honours or spades leading to 0314 12:16

    Why not respond with 4 hearts

      4H would probably end the auction early. Responder would be telling opener that she has hearts support, but no extras, and game is likely the best place. Here responder has slam-going values!
